Yes, I have been going back to this video a couple of times a year also. I wonder how long before the actual stall happened, did the engineer realize that a stall was eminent? He🎉 knew it when he ran out of sand.🎉. The sounds of those old girls is awesome! Turn up the volume! 😂Thats when the engineer began to 7walk through the power to notch 8. It's a lost cause. 😢❤
Dunno why YT surfaced this for me now. I fire there. Neither of those crew members are around anymore but the loco still is. 8A is in the workshops for her D exam. Quite a few changes along the line since then but you'd still recognise it.
An engineer friend of mine said the two worst things he NEVER wants to see in front of him are: a loaded fuel tanker truck stuck on a crossing. And a heat kink! Both will result in probable derailments with possible death(s) involved. Amtrak's 2004 City of New Orleans derailment comes to mind on heat kinks.
I watched this again and just noticed that the parallel track is broad and standard dual gauge, rare mileage in the Melbourne area. Those gauges are usually on separate tracks because the gauge difference is relatively small and there are hardware limitations.
