What wasn't mentioned about the schools. JCPS raises your home taxes every year. They also get around 40% of your vehicle, boat and rv taxes every year. All with the excuse of they need more money due to being broke, but the superintendent gets and $75,000 annual raise. Still trying to figure out how $26 million was spent on a new gym, auditorium and mediocre upgrades. Someone made out like a bandit in that bid.
I left hellhole Philly to move back to KY after 25 years. KY is kind, wholesome, and beautiful. Be careful if you leave because people aren’t as kind in most of the US.
No comparison, Lexington. Lex Vegas is the pinnacle of horse country and is agriculturally centered. Louisville runs the big race but Lexington does the breeding. Keeneland is a world class event.
I grew up in the Southend of Louisville in Shivley in the 1980's and I absolutely LOVED it. It was a safe, working class area with YOUNG parents raising kids with Grandparents typically living a few streets away. The economy of the Southend was thriving as well into the 90's. Something DID change in the 2000's and it breaks my heart so badly to go back and visit the Southend today and see how much it has fallen. Also the DRIVING CULTURE has changed dramatically in Louisville in the past 10 years. I used to joke about how TERRIBLE driving in Los angeles is, but Louisville has absolutely caught up!
I am in California coming up on retirement. I will be trying to live on $2,500 a month without factoring in a part-time job. The goal is rural, tiny home and tiny land. I am leaning towards Tennessee for the thunderstorms, growing season, and less snow. Work history is education and LVN nursing. I can entertain myself, but "pretty hikes" and a small town community activities would win me over. Any suggestions?
I don’t want to hurt this ladies business but , Knoxville Tennessee , or Louisville Kentucky, would not be on my wish list if I were you , south central Kentucky or north central Tennessee would be your best option, i have lived and worked in both cities and their ok i guess , but what ever you decide don’t even consider Memphis Tennessee ! I took a job in Nashville and bought a home in Kentucky just to get out of Memphis!
@MegaRiffraff Thank you very much for the information. 😃 Yes, I have no interest in cities. I am strictly looking for rural communities. Unfortunately, California no longer has affordable housing rentals, and buying a house is no longer possible. Many people in California either move back in with their parents or live in their cars, even with working two jobs.
Sorry - have to eliminate your Cuban restaurants due to a plantain allergy. Prefer Time 4 Thai over Simply Thai, which I didn’t care for (used to live in Boston-Thai restaurants were much better there).
You're very confused... First you say Kentucky to be a best place to live and now you're saying that people are leaving it... Sadly you haven't said anything to represent the people who live here or our culture... You've said nothing about our Southern hospitality or our friendliness and waving at people... You must be severely intellectually challenged
You're definitely not a Kentuckian... I was born and raised in Kentucky on a tobacco farm and you haven't said a darn word about our culture.... Nothing said about our Southern hospitality or why we wave at people... I am very insulted buy your misrepresentation of the people who live here
Great question! You are going to want to check the JCPS school finder for each particular address: apps.jefferson.kyschools.us/demographics/schoolfinder.aspx
I live in Louisville and my rent just went up $50 per month. Rents have nearly doubled in the last 20 years. Louisville has the least mass transit availability per person of any U.S metro area. Tolls were added to build two new expressway bridges, as opposed to building light rail, at which the leaders here turned up their noses. Our cost of living is not as good as it’s often made out to be.
You are exactly right. Louisville can’t keep cops, thus lawlessness, shootings. Murders every night. Visited Lexington a few months ago and was shocked. No garbage strewn all over the roadways, clean, people had great hygiene, nice clothes, a lot of new property everywhere, and most of all, a sense of general well being, a friendly public. Here? I don’t even go to the same grocery anymore in St Matthews. I go outside the Gene Snyder to shop for anything. Great park system, waterfront is cool. The people here though are really angry, not well educated, and it’s become a progressively dangerous place. It’s not that I don’t feel safe, it’s just so draining to be around an aggressive, negative public. It’s happening to many cities around the US and Louisville is no exception.
You are in Louisville, What percentage of thugs and terminally unemployed are there? Those companies that came to southern states, how many came for low wages and smaller benefits? And globalization, keep handing our jobs to the not as cheap foreign wage. Yeh when All the good paying jobs are gone, then what are we going to do. All states go thru a certain amount of move now its cheaper here. Illinois and California, and New Jersey know about high taxes and get out quick era. There is a certain amount of peace and quiet in Kentucky. Just my take .
230 is too high for housing, and the income avetages everywhere is false. Tennessee has industry, real jobs that wages and job demands are in decline due to illegals working for less and production quotas falling way behind. Kentucky does not have industry to support communities. They depend upon like everywhere else migrating income in form of tourism and population trying to escape rising costs. Self sustainable living is desirable for the State.
Get out of large cities. Your much better off in all towns. Less crime. Better schools much better for your overall health. Ect Just leave your big city attitude at the city limits sign. And don't ask for a walmart
My son and me are considering moving to Kentucky, to be exact Louisville but I heard that crime when double in one of your videos, I wonder what part of town of Louisville the crime rate is high or if this is a state wide, is any smaller town attached or next to Louisville that would be more comfortable and safe to live than Louisville, in case is not? Thank you.
Greet questions! I think crimegrade.org is a good resource for you to investigate crime. Besides louisville, oldham county, Shelby county, and Bullitt county are good to investigate.
Barn8 is the best meal I have ever had in town. All of these are are really good, but maybe call them favorites or tried and true. I would not call them "hottest" in town. There are a lot of really good and hot new places in the area.
Yeah I like Fresh Market. Way too expensive. For ethnic grocery stores you need to hit the South End mostly. Preston Hwy for alot of Latin foods. some small ones in Lyndon. There is a big Indian grocery store in the East End on Hurstbourne lane.
Biscuit Belly is just OK. Overrated imo. definitely not the best breakfast place in Louisville. I suggest Highlands Morning, First Watch (even though it is a chain), Wild Eggs or Zeggz
Im 60 an i can tell u what Louisville is now an this just happened in last 5 years Louisville is riddled with crime in all of Louisville not certain places Louisville lets criminals go free an there no accountability unless ur the police then u fear of goin to prison for doin ur job Louisville has trash everywhere ride threw Walmart or kroger after they close looks like a bomb went off they hav people eith blowers blowing garbage away from the building just to get itso the vac truck can get to it Louisville has homeless camps living behing every kroger Walmart home Depot an they leave there trash everywhere an piss an shit just feet from side walks an our dumbass mayor thinks there down on there luck cant find a job lol naive son of a bitch they are drug abusers an steal stores blind so if u want the truth there it is
Don’t move to Kentucky it’s worst state possible. No jobs! Nothing to do! Horrible schools! Very few sports! No Entertainment! Horrible humidity! No housing or rental property! Prejudice against Northerns & Westerners!
