Hi Jim Colvin, Steve Devonne, Andy Jackson, Andy Bailey, Gilles Peterson, Steve's Marshall and Chandler. RIP Tony. I cant say I miss those cold nights on rooftops putting up aerials but would do it one more time to have you back Mr Irons you bloody pain! best wishes all. John
Thanks for the memories Invicta. Thanks to Jim C for inviting me to witness a broadcast from Andy and Mandys in North London one Bank Holiday which got me off helping Tony Johns put up aerials all over London at ridiculous hours with tonys red bag, loo roll within and a Roberts Radio. Meeting Gilles before he got famous was a memory and Meeting Chris hill too! The thoughts of freezing rooftops and lack of sleep never left me. I remember talking to Tony long after Invicta folded and specialist Radio Stations like Kiss and Classic Fm were on air. I wanted to say that he and Roger etc were proved right and thank you. He was chuffed at that, then told me he had made some modest gains on the stock market. Typically the market crashed not long after. Sad to hear of his passing. Hi to Steve Chandler, Steve Devonne, Steve Marshall, Andy Jackson, Jim Colvin, Steve Walsh, and naturally Tony Johns. Also the much underrated Andy Bailey. Good and bad memories but an experience nevertheless.
I was 15 years old when I went to Knebworth and all these years later I have to say respect to Chris Hill and froggy and all involved in this great event.
Big salute to the researchers who have highlighted a very special deejay from the past...raw undiluted fearless powerful funk!!!...I, still see him... and the recent transition of Des Parkes as true scientists of this art:funk.... Steve dropped so much science back in the day but even more powerful was his sharing of his knowledge and the sincere appreciation to see you love the tunes that today, still sound raw fearless and fresh... well overdue!!... salute to the souljahs of this limitess vibration FUNK
@joecc6 He was involved in a car crash in ibiza. Had an operation on his leg when he returned to England, had a heart attack just after the operation. Awful.
There were two great radio voices in the mid 80s coming out of London... Steve Walsh was one of them...Mike Allen was the other. RIP guys...two legends sooo sadly missed.
Dave Pearce when he was playing hip hop & R&B before he went into Trance...it makes you wonder what Steve Walsh would have been playing in the late 90s and 2000s had he lived
I had the pleasure many times of Steve Walsh @Bogarts in South Harrow. Funniest thing was, I said Steve why you bought a Rolls Royce…he giggled and said to me B…I can’t get in a Ferrari like Endo(The co owner) haha. Amazing personality and great fella. Always had time for anyone with soul music at heart. Tony Blackburn and him was thick and deep.
I had the privilege of working behind the scenes for his midnight show on Capital Radio. He actually played some of my own records which I brought to the studio. His manager was nice too.
