As someone who will nearly always take sub over dub, I enjoys the english voice acting a lot and I refuse to put a character as my assistent who has no english dub. You haven't experienced Arknights until Mlynar tells you about the sound of rainstorms in the wilderness in polish.
I just Tekken it - that is to say, if the character's background fits the English accented version more than JP I will tend to go for it, with some important exceptions. e.g. the Sui siblings always speak their regional Chinese dialect; Chen speaks Cantonese, the Siracusanos speak Italian (those VAs are surprisingly good), etc
I mostly use JP ones while choosing between foreign languages, I often compare them and a lot of times the tone of JP lines is quite different. Though I have a huge soft-spot for voices with non-english inclusions like Młynar being the most cheerful man in Poland
Sigh, ill never understand why weebs even care what language they listen to.I personally dont care and will probably play in english in all games that have en as an option.
Arknights the only game where you can individually choose which voice each character has. Surprised no other games don’t do that and force the entire game to be in one set language
I always give EN va a chance because some of it is good. Anime gacha games with EN voices are really good lately. But Arknights have done insanely well with various accents based on where the characters are from
I didn't really switch any voices... Apart from Ines and Lappland though, they both sound so good each for their own reasons... Lapplands EN voice is just insanely good, nothing else needs to be said and who listened to it understands. And Ines EN voice has that slight hateful undertone underneath that "I am done with everything"-tone which I really like on her. And wow Irene sounds great as well but I sadly don't have her yet.
My guess for future Operator voices: Columbian: Some of them should have Southern or Brooklyn accents Rim Billitonian: Aussie accents Sargonians: Middle Eastern accents (my guess: Arabian/Egyptian) Siracusans: Italian accents (just don’t exaggerate it, otherwise they will sound like Mario)
Australian here. Every time a Rim Billitonian gets a British or American accented English VA it pushes me one step closer to declaring independence. Blacknight should be barely understandable to 90% of the world's English-speaking population as god intended.
Dagda is by far my favorite of the en voices. All of Glasgow is good, really. Only missing point for me with Saileach is she sounds...way too overdramatic for what she's doing. You're throwing a flag, not enacting a sermon!
Yeah en voices like Irene and Lappland make you want to switch to the dub. But damn I didn’t know Kugimiya was her jp, she’s great. I already wanted her before coz of her design (esp that E2 art) and gp/passive. But after finding that out and playing the Stultifera Navis rerun I want her even more.
Shining's en voice is pure gold in the form of soundwaves, and my waifu Ptilopsis' en captures her personality so much better than jp. I've never preferred en to jp until now.
Pretty late to the party but now 11 months later - Młynar EN VA is amazing ( I mean would expect that from Margott from Elden ring). Trend of having operators in EN have some kind of regional accent is more prominent and we got confirmation of Russian and German VO which makes me think we will get actual regional VO for each country (pog). Oh and also. Bagpipe still doesn't have EN VO.
I always check out each of the voices when they get added and there are a few that I've switched from JP to EN etc. Most of the ops from Victora and Columbia I try the English and most of them I like but yeah the accent thing does kind of bother me like with Ch'en. I expect more of an Asian/eastern accent but she sounds too western so I stuck with her JP but Swire's work purr-fect for her. Shaw's CN voices is the best though. Makes her act way more squirrely. Gravel's EN voice turned her into a waifu for me. Can't tell if she is going to kill me or kiss me again. LOL
Slightly disappoints me you didnt include lappland here since her italian accent is *affascinante.* Then again i know barely anything about this game so go ahead
So far the only english voice I vetoed right away was Gavial. I love hearing more and more voices. And I was incredibly elated when Reed's english voice came out. Coincidentally filled with a desire to play Elden Ring again.
