The Roches didn’t coach athletes into success. Those athletes were already doing well so let’s not over credit them. They just need a lot of love and hugs from coaches. It’s pretty clear.
Very well said, from an ethical standpoint coaches should not accept sponsorships so that their athletes can be confident there is no financial bias behind the coach's recommendations. It's crazy how those two coaches Koop called out got away with not only promoting the product, saying they created the product to backpedaling to just being tastetesters and naming, to them not even using the product they promoted because they thought it was bad all because they are such positive and good people and their fans went and attacked Koop for calling them out. It's crazy how people disregard ethics.
Very interesting video. Regarding the Gels. My friend will not go on a run without it. Mental dependency because of the marketing. So I got him for €40 the Libre 2 CGM. To cut a long story short.. His blood sugar goes up in a first 20 minute or so. Stays elevated for the first 2 hours then drops slowly down to normal level by the end of the run. He started eating a Gummy bear for 5 cents each before the run and a few along the way for fun.. No more expensive gels. Spoke to a trainer who said that for any run upto 2 hours no gels needed.
I just went with an 860 coming from the vongo v5. The difference is great where the Vongo has more support and a much cleaner softer stretchier fabric and lighter. Also the Vongo v5 doesn't have the heel bounce that these 860s have. I am going to do 5 miles this evening with them and see how they go but so far not as good as my Vongo's.
Marathon Pour Tous is not open to public: It was a lottery that offers lottery bibs to those who joined the app and upload their runs to reached certain mileage to be eligible to be entered to lottery to run the Olympic marathon course. I am one of the earliest people who entered the lottery and got the spot. But she went beyond her way and stretched the truth for money. Very sad!!!
Nike They always fix these marathons and they dont even hide it someone with eyes, curiosity can see through it...Kipchoge never run against the recently deceased Kiptum because of this sponsor nonsense
Great show, thanks. As for the DQ, the fact that he turned to taunt his competitor is what got him tossed. A celebration alone probably wouldn't have done it. Once you turn around and direct your "celebration" to a fellow athlete and it's almost a guarantee you're getting thrown out. Not saying it's right (though I have to admit, I hate when guys do that sort of garbage) but it is pretty predictable. Plus, he ran 45.7 almost turning fully around! I wonder what he would have run had he just driven through the line. 45.2? (Olympic qualifying standard) Probably not, but it would have been a lot closer. Again, great discussion, thanks.
Excellent information that anyone can use for any goal time. A question if you may help with: which days should I replace my bike commutes with? I can ride to work on 2 of the weekdays and the duration is approximately an hour.
Never Hoka! Never On! There's nothing more irritating than walking into a running shoe store and seeing half the customers trying on Hoka and the other half trying on On. Do your homework, people. I'm convinced that stores get higher margins off these two overhyped brands, which is why they push them. But that's just my opinion.
The volunteer in the blue shirt was clearly ready for him with 2 cups of water. The lady before that volunteer in the long sleeve white top was holding a cup out for him. It's his job to scoot over toward the water table even if he is the lead guy, safety for other runners and the race bikes means the volunteers need to stay off sides. And hear me out on this: did he go into the race with the knowledge that the volunteers weren't going to be ready for him and his water needs so better have dad available for hydration? No. This was a guy who had no plan of taking fluids at the aid stations. That was the reason he had his sherpa biking alongside! And for sure dad biking alongside helped. I run a lot faster when my friend bikes with me! DQ justified. Dude was well-supported by the race and volunteers he just chose not to take advantage of that support.
The Olympics is a global competiton. They should invite who they want just like any diamond league. Korir didn't run the time. He wasn't good enough, tough. The US isn't entitled to another spot.
dang... did NOT realize... his dad was biking next to him the whole time handing him water. how freaking convenient a lot of media forgets to MENTION THAAAAAAAT
You guys win the world championship of american football every year dude, how much more catering and free medals do you want? You could tune down your american privilege a few notch and you wouldnt be as obnoxious to the rest of the world, just a thought.
Parkrun HQ and leadership have lost the plot if they think the sort of stats they have removed were in any way a barrier to new entrants. These stats were there but you had to look for them, it’s not as if they were blazed across the individual event sites. You get a text and email with your time, finishing position and age category. If you’re not interested in that kind of thing then that’s where it ends. If you are then go and look at the stats. Parkrun IS the most inclusive, friendly and supportive thing I’ve ever been involved with. That is not due to parkrun leadership (despite what they may think) it’s due to individuals who organise, volunteer and … of course… take part. All the stats did for me was to encourage me to try and improve where possible. Same for everyone else that I know who takes part. Classic case of distant management thinking they know best and taking their staff (in this case volunteers and participants) for granted. If you follow their warped logic to its conclusion then why bother timing it at all?
Run with STRAVA and problems solved. STRAVA will have a record of all of your previous runs and segments will have age and sex records for all parkruns where people have run with the ap. Trans runners don't appear to be an issue in Australia.
Yeh, hard disagree on this one. I understand you'd like 3 shots at a podium, but having other countries represented is what makes the sport and the spectacle, not giving USA preferential treatment because of broadcasting rights and revenue. Otherwise you may as well just put a rerun of the USA champs. 🤷🏻♂️
I agree with no preferential treatment but I also don't like that Olympics decided to do this whole 50/50 selection process to then throw it all away at the end. just go off time and call it a day.
If the main reason to run is for the time then it shouldn't matter he was DQ'd. He still ran a great time and can be proud of it, but in my mind, they made the correct call, even if there was no money on the line it's an unfair competitive advantage. That being said, no one should be giving him grief for doing it either.
I don’t see any evidence that the volunteers “just weren’t ready for him” at the water stops. I’ve only seen clips of him passing by volunteers clearly holding out drinks. Also, if the water stops weren’t good enough then feel free to carry your own hydration.
Peter Wang (one of the marathon’s lead bikers) had GoPro videos of the entire thing and reported the cheating to the race director. Go do your research guys. You guys are starting beef for no good reason between the 2 runners🤦🏻♂️
I’ve been following this story pretty closely. If Esteban didn’t go to the media and complain, this story would not even be in the news or any major outlets. Instead he went straight to the media after the race and essentially lied to get everyone to feel bad for him. And now this is a sob story about a kid which the media loves. But in reality, he’s 24 years old and just broke the rules and is not taking any accountability for it. To me, it’s fine if he made an honest mistake. Accidents happen. But to not take ownership of your mistake and point fingers at other people? That’s just wrong. That’s my take.
Michael here. Great perspective, and thanks for sharing it! We work with what we know about a story, and this is of course valuable insight. Seems like a lose-lose situation all around. The guy who ended up winning (without cheating) didn't get to celebrate breaking the tape, and meanwhile Esteban, who did run a good race himself, got DQed (fairly, as he did break the rules), and this big effort was all for nothing. And while the race took some negative press based on the spin, it's probably not entirely a negative, as we're talking about an event we wouldn't typically pay attention to otherwise. But you are right, a 2:24 runner (and their clearly dedicated parent) should know that this is against the rules. I, personally, didn't like the fact that he was gaining an emotional/mental edge from having company. That is a clear unfair advantage. Anyhow, I'm sure Jessy will appreciate your comments as well, as she was firmly in favour of Esteban getting DQed! I was more on the fence. Although, I'm fine with the disqualification! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for your response Michael! I think all athletes are in favor of the DQ. But the general public is essentially mixed because the media has made it a sob story about “a cup of water from dad”. When in reality it was much more than “a cup of water from dad”. If it really was just a cup of water and not full on bike support (and all its benefits as you know), I would be on the fence too. But it turned out the #1 finisher lied to the media. And the race officials released video footage debunking his claims. He spread multiple false rumors and really the running community is tired of it. There’s running blogs about this elsewhere that you should probably check out. Anyways, appreciate again for your response. I’m team Jessy on this one 😀
DQ is warranted. When this originally popped on my social feed of "Runner DQd after getting water from family member" I was thinking it might be some ridiculous case of a guy behind handed a cup from his mom one time. Far from it. If the water stations were unorganized, then him having a bike escort with water was even more of an advantage. If they were scrambling to get ready for him, they also may have been scrambling for the guy 17 seconds behind him. He got unfair assistance - DQ. I also don't like how the winner is whining about it and shitting on everyone else. Take accountability for your mistake . It’s USATF rules. If I was 2nd, I’m not sure I would have reported him but I totally can understand why he would. But it sounds like 2nd actually didn’t report him though according to The NY Times article. So that was another false claim by Prado that Michael here is incorrectly reporting. That’s how rumors start Michael.
The media is clearly portraying this TERRIBLY. Prado apparently went to the news outlets after the race and told on the volunteers and made claims that all he got was “one cup of water from his dad”. Trying to play the victim card. And he blamed Yang on “telling on him” but that also wasn’t true either. Then videos surfaced later of Prado that showed the biking and pacing. And the race bikers confirmed they were the ones that reported it first. Prado is not taking any accountability for this and it’s quite unprofessional of him to do this. You guys should probably get your facts straight before you make a video about it…
I also agree with the DQ. Any athlete would understand how big bike support is in the course of a full marathon. Prado went to the media after the race and threw the volunteers and race director under the bus. He spread rumors that it was the 2nd place guy that reported it. He also lied that it was only “a cup of water” when it was full on bike support and pacing. The worst part is, Prado thinks he still won the race and isn’t taking accountability. And the guy that reported the cheating to the race officials first was “Peter Wang” who was one of the lead bikes for the OC Marathon. Peter was interviewed in this article and confirmed. It’s in this NY times article. Peter did an interview…
This entire OC Marathon attention right now exists because Prado went out and cried about it 😂 to try to get his first place medal back. Sorest loser I’ve ever seen and there’s not even a cash prize involved. I heard he’s young but there’s a lot more to life and many more races in the future unless he gets banned for this fiasco
I’m a slight over-pronator. These aren’t stability shoes (they’re neutral), but I find them to be bouncy enough to prevent your arch from completely collapsing.
@@AlexCyr I currently run on the one degree beyond centauri which is also a neutral shoe but gives me a little more on the inside of the foot to help with that collapse
