What a brilliant course and overview of music theory and a curriculum for guitar. I wish i seen something like this years ago. Its so useful to have a birds eye view of music theory and guitar , it helps to give one a learning path to study over the years

I just finished the entire 32 hours and I can say this has helped me more than any other more 'modern' music/guitar training lessons on YT I've ever done. Scotty is a very talented educator! As a beginner, the guitar and music scales, etc can seem too confusing and complex. You learn some open chords and a few that sound good together, but you never really get the "Why?" of it. Now after this course, the guitar (and actually music in general) has been completely de-mystified for me. The thoughful and well-organized sequence of your lessons is perfect for obtaining a comprehensive understanding of music theory and guitar. When I pick up a guitar now, it no longer feels like a foreign object. When I find a note I like, I already have some pathways as to where to go next. I have a sense of what I need to do and what to work on to improve. I know what I don't know, and how to go about learning it. Thanks Scotty!

By far my favourite lesson because you adressed the different qualities of the chords . I was curious to see what major6 chord sounded like to you, to me it sounds slightly playful , a playful version of the major, liked your description of it been pastural, peaceful and friendly . This is one of my favourite subjects in music how the sounds make us feel and what labels we give to them

Thank you for all your teachings; everything is so organized and the information progresses in an easily understandable way. Being that I am a true cave"person" where music is concerned and this is essentially the first music theory lesson I've had I have to say that it made a huge impact. The way you tied it altogether at the end of the lesson was truly magical.

I've been playing for 17 years off and on. I am REALLY good at learning songs quickly from guitar tabs, but no clue how this instrument actually works theory-wise. I've already made some major leaps in my knowledge pool just from the first 3 videos. A lot of things I never understood finally make sense. I'm excited to continue the series. When I tell you major dots have already been connected, I mean it. I had the playing experience and technical aspects covered already. I probably had 200+ songs stored in my noodle from the last 17 years from every genre you can think of lol. Why did it take my so long to get interested in theory?? Really wish i had done this years ago

It will be easier higher up the neck, since the frets are smaller. Maybe start there? or just focus more on the index finger keep it strong

Sing saying the notes while playing the finger charts is critical for ear training, but not the most fun. The most challenging aspect of this is doing things that are not as stimulating as playing your favorites songs. But in the long run it will lead to full expression on the guitar which is unlimited stimulation.

This is crazy. I thought I was lost but pushed through and I definitely understand a lot more than I thought I would. My taste of music is very different from the examples he shows, as a matter of fact most of the music I want to learn use a single scale and it's repeated constantly. Most musicians definitely don't know what they're playing. They can play but don't know why the scales work.

Watched on 08/15/24. Bar is hard ngl, 1st string always sounding bad. Another problem I'm currently having is my pinky usually doesn't touch only 1 string, so whenever I'm doing the chromatic scale exercise without releasing the fingers is that the string below my pinky gets "muffled". But I keep trying, it has been only 4 days since the start. Amazing content!

I just want everyone to know that I have been playing (sucking) at guitar for 20 years, I decided to actually learn last year and about 6 months ago I started listening to these lessons, I have been grinding away, listening to them over and over until I understand, last night I was able to jam with a friend along with songs I'd never heard before. I never thought that would ever be a reachable goal for me and if so I figured it would take at least another decade. Scotty is the real deal and I have so much thanks to give to him. You are one of the biggest influences on my life Mr. West, thank you. Ymmv I listen to two to three a day for the past 3 months at least and I'm only up to this lesson, practice every day.

My only problem with the guy is the guitar placement. Like he tells you to hold it like a classical guitarist and then starts playing from his right leg in this video. He should have been a bit more open to guitar positioning instead of saying people that play with their right leg don’t know what they are doing. The rest however is absolutely perfect. He explains theory better than anyone I’ve seen.

Scotty is the GOAT. Just FYI Mexican Sierreño music do a lot of the shift that scotty says it's difficult. Their scales Jump from 5, 6, 7 and 8th frets to 1, 2, 3 and 4th. Even though they seem difficult they're not if you practice enough and most of the genres rrpeat the same scales. I guess thats why they're called genres and have very specific tecniques.
