@@RowdyDH3 Yes I was at Namhuga PS. I think the headmaster was Barrat, but may be wrong. I remember a teacher by the name of Mrs Heatherington. I returned to the UK about 1970 to attend school, and my parents remained in Kilembe. I went back in christmas and summer holidays.
@@RowdyDH3 Yes I was at Namhuga school. I came back to Scotland around 1970 to attend school, and returned to Kilembe for xmas & summer holidays. One of the headmasters was Barratt, and I remember a teacher Mrs Heatherington. From memory we lived in 3 different houses, I thing it was C10 or 12. Then we moved to the white houses D54, then back to the brick houses. Couple of names that come to mind was Denise Penman, Helen Lyons, Sharon & Kerry Jarvis, they had a baby sister Natale. Russel Hardwick, Keith Cook, Georgio Sitori.
45 years ago..ish....feels like yesterday after seeing the video. for some reason i vividly remember my childhood in this incredible place ..thanks for sharing
Yeah me too when I was driving around. It was essentially the same but very run down. More photos here, if interested. www.flickr.com/photos/limey2007/albums There are a few albums showing game park, Mweya, kasese etc
A great video showing this beautiful area prior to 2020. In May 2020 the worst recorded floods swept through the tiny community of Kilembe. The community is desperately trying to re-build itself and again provide visitors access to the wonders of the Rwenzori "Mountains of the Moon". Please help with justgiving www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/andrew-wielochowski?
Kavieng is a beautiful part of the world. Great surf unbelievable diving and wonderful people and has a fair bit of of WW2 history there as well. I wish I can have more time there and I will be going back soon.
Beautiful video Dave,I come from this place you visited and watching your video puts me to tears. It's quite a lay back part of the world. I hope you enjoyed your stay. Thank you for sharing this video to everyone.
Two years ago I shot a movie in Kilembe to show the current situation. A documentary for a Belgian organization who is helping to improve and rebuild the Kilembe Mines Hospital after the 2013 flood. Film: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-teeUUNa1cxo.html (Subtitles in Dutch). Organization: www.daktariproject.com/en/ Currently I'm working on a follow-up more about the community and the history of the region i.e. the heydays of the mines and the decline. Therefore I’m looking for photographs and film fragments from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. Especially interested in photographs/fragments of the working mines, group and school photographs, photographs of the swimming pool, the golf club… In other words, photographs that show the relative prosperity the region had in that era. Do you have any documents of that time which I could use? Or do you have knowledge of any other persons that had similar experiences? please let me know. All photographs and images will be used with the necessary respect. Please contact me at henk.vandekerkhove@gmail.com Henk Vandekerkhove

Saludos desde Sur America, Colombia, departamento de Antioquia, municipio de San Pedro de los milagros. Estoy conociendo el mundo por internet, youtube. Que hermosa isla, un lugar que me gustaria conocer personalmente.
We lived in Nongoma, & I was born in Hluhluwe on 3rd July 1951. I was three months old, & my parents too us to Tanganyika Territory, where I grew up, speaking Swahili before English. See my video, original footage.
Great vid, but pics just dont do justice to the breath taking beauty of this place do they? My wife and i just returned from diving Lelepa island, and i will never be the same again. mi wantim go long diving nomo. tankyu tumas
The island is about 2 hours by boat (I think you can fly there by sea-plane in half an hour), North-East of Bundaberg, Queensland. I've never been sick on a boat before, but I was that day. The diving and the place made the trip well worth it, though
