just bought this one! going to swap out the tubes and see if i get better results, but the chinese tubes that come with it already do have a subtle difference, more of a warm and bassy sound than my Fiio K3, very interesting. Thank you for this video!

@@iam_mad they are 7 pin and not 9 pin anymore so it's a whole different set of compatibilities I believe. Regardless the thing sounds very pleasant and makes me interested in trying a "real" one some day 😁
I bought one of these .Mine has a bad hum.I believe it is a ground loop hum.I researched this problem and after testing it in a way I will not go into it was obviously an earth problem.I bought an iFi GND Defender plug adaptor which simply plugs into the power input socket and then you plug the normal power chord into that.I was very skeptical about this thing working but it does exactly what it claims to do. No more hum! These are very high resolution amplifiers but neither do they sound analytical or clinical.Preamplifier matching is critical to get them sounding their best.With the right preamp they have good projection and depth but with some preamps will sound a bit flat.In my case it works best with my Suprtatek tube preamp [6SN7].I suspect it is one of those S.S.power amps that sounds best with high gain tube preamps [many do].

In particular about the pre amp of mp701 of musical paradise. I am in the market for a pre amp update and the possibilities of fine tuning via tube and caps rolling is very promising. In your review of the mpx dac you conclude with 3 proposals of tubes and caps (emotional, dynamic and analytic) for your setuo. For a 3 way speaker, I was wondering if you had the same reccomandations for the mp 701 pre. Thank you.
Hi, I’ve purchased a Dartzeel clone NHB-108 which has an input sensitivity of 1.66V & input impedance of 22K. Do you think it would be a good fit for this preamp?
The MP-701 is making an excellent Job on the Dartzheel with the settings as I explianed, but I recommend You 3x 12BH7 tubes and the russian 5U4G, not the Linlai !
If you go to his channel page, under Videos, Latest, you'll see that this video posted 9 months ago is the latest one that he has posted on this channel. That's a long time without posting a video, so it may be that for whatever reason he is not posting videos to this channel or at least not for the time being. His channel page does not have a Community tab, which would be where many RU-vidrs would post a message explaining why they will not be posting videos to the channel for some length of time or forever. So, we are left to wonder if and when he will return, and to hope that he is okay.
The sound is not my cup of tea but looks lovely. I am wondering what if bigger cabinet and bigger full range driver is used to make it more fuller sounding one.
Thanks for Your comment! This is not the real sound, You hear here, it is impossible to reproduce the real flavour of magic through the RU-vid mesh. It is supposed to give You a hint of the Petit´s agility, speed and how deep the bass can go. I will for sure go to bigger full range drivers later, as 16cm Lii Audio and 30cm...
We have left the plains of the sabertooth tiger, mammoth hunt, cave living, treble and bass adjuster. If You look for these, You have a far way to go, sorry, but I cannot advise here, the amount of advise You need surpasses my writing capacity. But my videos should help a bit! 😉
@@iam_mad Thanks for the reply but it's kinda insulting and silly. If I make you a "perfect" meal and you think you would enjoy it with extra pepper, then you would be daft to take my word for it and eat is I say it should be. No bass and treble also demands that everyone has their speakers at exactly the correct height and distance from walls and that we have acoustically adjusted homes. What about people with hearing loss, someone may not perceive treble properly and needs to raise or lower it. It also demands that the recording engineers and producers and sound tech have identical studios so that all records are mastered at a standard rate. It also demands that every artist or engineer knows what they are doing. I like the clean sound with a pure signal path but simple bass and treble are as necessary as a volume control. Not every record is a piece of art. Domestic acoustics and personal taste are of greater importance then an obscure opinion that says you should listen to it how it comes off the platter. To continue the food simile if you buy a sandwich and it has onions which you don't like, do you eat the sandwich or do you take the onions out and then enjoy the sandwich?. I had hoped to get advise about trying a used equaliser or tone box and how these could be used without a pre - amp output. I guess I came to the wrong channel. My bad.
@@iam_mad Did you listen exactly Linlai model E-6SN7? I'm asking because using Linlai E-6sn7 + Cambridge ARX100 + Monitor Audio 300 floorstands pair... So many time I have to control the lowest frequencies! Another question is that any tube has different sound... So, any 6SN7 will be "bright"? Would you tell us your set-up, such as speakers, Amp?
Most great sounding old capacitors used in good sounding vintage tube amplifiers were indeed aluminum oil.... I use them also and found an american company manufactoring those with good sound quality ....Arizona capacitors .........( three types , paper/oil .........paper/foil + and paper+/foil....) Coherence and harmony are key .........often forgotten by high end stuff........
For what tube type this preamp is optimized and has the correct operation points ? ....multiple different tube types will result in misleading results when not used with their adequate operation conditions......only one tube type will be optimized and with some esoteric high quality amps the brand of the tube with the same type will be important also. A Marantz 7 was build with ECC83 TFK............with all other brands it will not sound as a Marantz 7.....Some CJ preamps were voiced with a ECC82 RFT ........the tube was relabeld Conrad Joghnson...nobody would have thought to choos a RFT tube in a CJ..........BUT that tube did the job they wanted it to sound. ( Luxman did the same with the famous SQ360 ) And so on ...........sticking with the same tube type and doing tube rolling one can indeed optimze the sound to your own prefered likings. That's one of the glorious things wit tube amplifiers...
Very interesting personal experience ....... I listen and choose tubes to obtan the least sensation od " reproduced music"........the most coherent in a given amp and system....... Therefor my choice is quiteasy and simple........;the right tube and the whole system.......is when I can no longer analyze the performance ! When the msuic drags me into the music letting me totaly firget the system....my boidy will start to move with the music and I will forget to forget to analyze hifi.. I only use nos tubes no current production tubes. ( only in recent tube amplifiers the use of current production is justified ) Nos tubes go only in the very best amplifiers.....same for resitors and capacitors. But in the end it is only the result and s( personal ) atisfactionj that counts. Have a nice day and thank you for the experience and upload.

I've been reading through some of the forums regarding this preamp and found that you can run 6SN7 and 12SN7 tubes on this with an adapter for the sockets. I'm curious to find out if you've tried either of these tubes? If so, what were your impressions?
Thank You for Your comment!😊 6SN7 is not suited as long as You don´t have this type of extreme boomy speakers, because the 6sn7 will sound very clear and thin. But if You have equipment like for Dolby Sorround etc. You can use it, but then I would recommend other gear for You in general, like Your usual Yamahas, Accuphses etc. Here on this channel I go for the audiophile sound, not for the commercial sound.

Lieber IamMad, erstmal danke für Deine tollen und unterhaltsamen und sehr informativen Videos. Ich folge dir sehr gerne. Nach Deinen Berichten über die FM300a-Clone habe ich mir auch einen in China bestellt. Auch bei Wolf6911. Dort die Version mit zwei Netzteilen und dem geschirmten Gehäuse für knapp 600$ plus Versand. Da kam dann nach drei Wochen eine beeindruckend schwere und gut verarbeitete Endstufe und ich habe die gleich mal in meine Kette gehängt. Aufdruck ist: "BRZHIFI" Zum Vergleich von Endstufen habe ich einen Umschalter, um schnell von einer auf die andere Endstufe zu kommen und ich habe jetzt doch ein paar Fragen an die Community hier: Also ich habe nach jahrelangem Ausleihen, Probehören und Verkaufen hier bei mir in meiner Kette zwei Endstufen: Eine Pioneer M22 und eine M25. Also beide Baujahr ca. 1978, revisioniert und selbstverständlich 100Volt Japanmodelle (die Japaner haben ja für den Heimmarkt doch in sehr engen Toleranzen gearbeitet im Vergleich zum Export). Und ich muss sagen: Die putzen diesen Chinaklon einfach mal weg. In jeder Disziplin. Also von Auflösung, Dynamik, Differenziertheit, präziser Räumlichkeit, Antritt beim Bass etc. Also das ist so krass, dass ich mir jetzt zwei Fragen stelle: Entweder sind diese Chinaklone wirklich sehr grossen Schwankungen in der Produktion unterworfen oder viele Kommentare hier im Stil von "der Chinaklon putzt meine Accuphase weg" sind Fake? Oder meine Pioneers sind einfach nach wie vor Glanzstücke? Sind ja Transistoren und keine Röhren. Wobei ich sagen muss, dass ich die Pioneers bei einem Freund gegen seine Audionote (Preis angeblich um die 30.000 Euro) spielen hab lassen, was meinen Freund in Depressionen gestürzt hat. Ich halte die Pioneers zwar für gute Endstufen aber mir ist durchaus klar, dass da noch viel Luft nach oben ist. Aber wie auch immer. Wer hat denn so um die Zeit Frühjahr bis jetzt mal einen Chinaklon der FM300a bestellt und kann mir eine Einschätzung geben?

When you receive the MP dac/stream, would be great to please hear your feedback when 1). it is connected directly to your FM300A and 2). when it is connected to your MP tube pre-amp and then to your FM300A. As I only use 1 input, the pre-amp is not mandatory but will add it if it makes the system sound better. Wonder if the MP dac/streamer tubes + the MP pre-amp tubes may make the whole system too tubey? Thanks

Hello! Great tips, just received my MKIII, 4.7uf VCAP to accommodate 75K solid state amp. 6H30p tubes and a 5t4 installed. Getting very sweet and brilliant. Would you still recommend LinLai rectifier or maybe a Sophia Electric? Thoughts?

Hi Jurgen. Watching your videos on the MP-701 convinced me to purchase the unit at the dismay of my wife. Just received the Mk3 and out of box sounded great connected to my Willsenton 300b amp. I switched out the tubes and in the process of purchasing the MCAP Alu/Oil. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise.
The choice of tubes is everything about harmony with the endstage and the combined speakers. The topic of aiming for certain genres like vocals or instrumental is much more defined through the speakers. Best speakers for voice are speakers with fullrange drivers. When You have the speaker, then You look for the amp that haemonizes with the speaker. In accordance to the MP-701 the best combination to fullrange speakers is the 6N6Pi or the 12BH7, if its the FM300A You have inbetween.
I got inspired by your video and considering buying this amp. Do you have any thoughts on the above FM300A vs clone of DartZeel NHB-108 D5 Pro? They both looks/sound very promising, but would appreciate some help in making the right choice :)
The FM is the mor musical amp, has more near "tube" feeling, best choice for efficient speakers, but will less strongly drive very difficult speakers with less then 4 Ohms and loose bass drivers that need control. Dartzheel is like a power plant, can drive anything low efficient (what I don´t like) and can still make a very good sound, but not such a nice mid tone and bass like the FM. Either You get a really good speaker with the FM or You have the big 3 way or 4 way speaker (difficult to drive) and low impedance / efficiency, then go for Dartzheel.
@@iam_mad That is not how I hear it.The Dartzeel clone to me sounds warmer and more like a valve amp.The FM 300A copy sounds more like a good SS amp and can drive lower impedance loads better than the Dartzeel despite having less power.I own the dartzeel copy with the extra pair of output transistors.Both amps sound excellent.which is best probably comes down to speaker matching.The Dartzeel copy is superb with vintage Tannoy Monitor Gold15s.
Got this amp very recently. Just wonder how the bias adjustment can be done when required. Don't see any screw adjustable points on it like those found on the Willsenton R8 which I bought two years ago.

This amp is VERY precise, if Your source has accentuated high frequencies, it will amplifie them, if Your source has no accentuated high frequencies, it will not amplifie them. This is, why I tested the Musical Paradise MP-701, because with the tubes You can smoothen harsh sibyllants.
