I usually breathe every two if I swim more than 50m. If I swim 50 or 25, then I breathe less, usually every third. Sometimes I don't take breath at all if I swim 25 on my practice. I just can't breathe every stroke, my timing gets awful and although it is easier with that breathing patern, I get sagnificantly slower. So every two works the best for me.

I got a tip from a video that said to rinse hair with clean water first before putting on cap. The water inside the cap can prevent pool water from invading. Also, rubbing a bit of coconut oil on hair, rinse with clean water, and then putting on cap can further help hair from being pool water dry.
When i couldn’t breathe front crawl I tried paddles but I was so winded within one lap. My arms and upper back were out of strength quickly. That was last year. After I was able to breathe front crawl ok, I put paddles back one. The difference was night and day! I warm up arms with 4 laps using snorkel. And then I use paddles for 4 laps to correct extension, rotation, and breathing. I don’t get tired arms and back anymore.
