I started sewing in the summer of 2015 after binging on a season the The Great British Sewing Bee. I had the basic skills my mother had taught me, a 70s era hand-me-down sewing machine, and a love of big swishy skirts . I don't know how I could have learned if it wasn't for all the wonderful resources available on the internet. Whenever I would get stuck on a sewing task I spend hours on-line researching and learning the techniques. Two years later I fell down the rabbit hole of Homemade Lingerie and made my first bra in May 2017 and I was hooked. I, like many women, have proportions that don't necessarily conform to fashion industry standards. Being able to make my own bras was an eye-opening experience and helped me to better understand and love my own body for all its quirks. Now with a few 100 bras under my presser foot I want to pay it forward and create content and tutorials to help other would be bra makers out there.
Hi Liz -- I love love love all your videos. I was wondering if you'd ever consider showing us how to convert the Black Beauty bra into a bustier, or even into a bodysuit?
Thanks for all your help on the Maya patterns. Very helpful. I want to purchase a walking foot for better bra construction. Any chance that you know which walking foot(s) are compatible with Singer 2200 series? Please and thank you
Thank you very much for the very informative video! I am just starting up with the first tester and three of these tips already made it look much better!
I explain very nicely and in detail. I had a question I had bra surgery and can’t wear bra with seams. I want to make my on bra without seams and if possible cotton as I get hot very fast and my skin is sensitive. Could please recommend me what kind of pattern bra and what brand would it be good. My skin is very sensitive and can’t wear too much synthetic fabric. I would like breathable fabric like cotton and a little spandex. Any recommendations or if I can find any bra. Please help me out. I looked on line but purchased so many different bras but still have problem. Thanks
I do two things differently. First when I am starting a project where the skeins have to be alternated, I start with a whole skein and a half a skein, and thereafter add a whole skein each time. That way you are not starting with two whole skeins and then run out of those two and have to add two new ones at the same time. That kinda defeats the alternating ... you need to only be adding in one at a time. Also, if I am knitting in the round, and I have to alternate skeins, I do helix knitting. That way you will not have any definitive line where the skeins change each row. No possible way to tell when the piece is finished where the changes are.
4:26 Thank you!!!!!!!! "I want to align the top of my cup with the top of my bridge." The cup is curved, so I was going mad figuring out align left/right/spilt-the-difference. Ugh.
Just came across your channel as tackling my first B. Wear Margarita, this is much the same construction, especially strap configuration. Really useful, thank you for all your careful work in your bra videos - all of them. Super resource. My word your colour choices, stunning!
I never would have noticed the sleeves if you hadn’t mentioned them. I bet you would enjoy fixing it if you want to, since it’s kinda complicated, but you don’t have to. Love how you adjusted the front for a cardigan🥰
The cardigan is so lovely and looks wonderful on you. I love the copper color. The worst thing I feel I can say is I think you need to modify the right sleeve. Sorry!
Thank you for doing this video! I love the look of this sweater but had seen some projects on ravelry and read some notes, and the original pattern didn't seem to be give the right fit the way the designer has, so I stayed away. It's good to know that changes have been made and it's now going to give more accurate results!
Thanks for sharing your knowledge. it's really wonderful to find something like this. you are very skillful and know how to communicate that to others. Very well made contents. Hope you have a wonderful days ahead ☺️
I know that this was done 4 years ago but I am just looking for this information now. I am not sure I understand how you will get these panties on over your hips. If the waist is 10" narrower than the hip measurement and you are compensating for the stretch of the fabric at .8 that makes the waist 24" unstretched. 24" x 1.4 for 40% stretch = 33.6" at full stretch for the waist, over 6" smaller than your hips. Could you explain how they will fit?
Really informative video! Unfortunately, this didn't work for me as especially the back side ended up being far too small for me, specifically, the amount of fabric constructed didn't give enough coverage for the back part to go up to the waist as constructed.
Is there an adjustment you can do to make the underwire Not pinch your arms when you’re bigger? That’s the only reason I wear non-wired bras and why I want to sew my own because I hate my boobs touching in the middle and need some extra support than what my non-wired cotton bras give but I can’t wear synthetics
