Hey! It should come off, but if you are concerned about the removal affecting the finish of the original material underneath then I’d recommend using double sided sticky tape or a self-adhesive variation of the wallpaper instead. :)
My daughter died of cancer she was 3 years old. Our family celebrates her birthday every year with cupcakes at her grave . I decorate her grave every seson. I will grieve my entire life and celebrate her as long as I'm able.
I love my clothes, each piece is a treasure that I have carefully selected. most of my clothes I have bought secondhand and are vintage and I take care of them so that they will last me a life time.
hello very beautiful sewing skills very beautiful video for the next sewing video please kindly get some video footage operating the sewing machine electric foot pedal how being used by foot to sew and please kindly get some video footage winding the bobbin on the sewing machine please kindly let me know ok?thank you very much and have a beautiful day 😊
Hello Just to let you know this dress is definitely from 40s early 50s not 60s at all beautiful dress made for you. One of the give aways is metal zips. Just found your channel and love the freshness of it keep up the good work. Cheers Tricia.
Hey Tricia! Thanks so much for letting me know your thoughts, I’ve done some reading previously on the fascinating history of zippers in women’s clothing - isn’t it remarkable? Admittedly I set my age estimate a little later than yours on the basis that, since the dress is likely handmade by a home seamstress, she may have been following ‘rules’ that were somewhat older than those of the fashionable commercially produced clothes of her time, and similarly may have been using an older metal-toothed zipper from her stash (goodness anyone trying to date the clothes I make with my nana’s vintage button stash are going to tear their hair out in the future!). I certainly hope your estimate is closer than mine though, since I vastly prefer clothes from the 40s and 50s a lot better as a general rule! 🥰🥰 thanks for watching and I hope you stick around, I love all of the knowledge and advice people are sharing with me through my videos! ❤️❤️❤️
This is very motivating, thank you! In the past, I used to have a large basket with a long handle I could hang in my shoulder where. I could drop all my pending sewing homework(including uncut patterns) and I would take with me whenever I had "parent waiting time" that I could not afford to waste. The basket went to doctor"s offices, rehersals, family visits, school conferences, study groups, etc. It was so satisfying returning home with so many projects finished...or at least started! Most of it was thrifted pieces that needed hemming, a change of buttons or rescuing a beautiful lace. You have motivated me now to complete a project to hemming a bunch of thrifted jeans.
Aaaah I’m so glad to have motivated you! I hope you get the chance to work on some of those projects yourself as well move through the start of the year. Thanks for watching! ❤️
New Viewer I think the reason the velvet bow had so many pins is that it was a 'added' decoration to the skirt at some time. I don't think it was original. Actually, the ribbon without the bow would attract me more than with. Glad to see you mending these items for more use. PS Next time, consider taking a skirt in at the side seams? the taper can be more easily hidden in many cases, though as you have that long torso a long dart is probably worthwhile. Now a subscriber
Thank you for the advice! You are probably right with the velvet bow on the skirt, it’s lovely but it does seem like a far more hastily Handsewn on detail that doesn’t quite match the quality of the rest of the skirt’s make. And thank you for the tips with the miniskirt! I’ll definitely try taking it in at the side seams next time I (inevitably) buy something the wrong size for me. 😅 thanks for watching!
I you can find a needle threading tool. ❤ you won'tstrain youreyesas muchits big help. ❤ I love seeing older clothing being saved beautiful job.❤ I love the color you could honestly wear that for valentines too.❤ how sweet.
Hey! The wallpaper is available at Bunnings, about $60 a roll (1 roll did 3/4 of my kitchen) and it’s usually near the paint section. :) happy to send you a link!
@andie1769 that’s no worries! Also, I recently helped a friend do the same thing with her kitchen, and we found that using a brand new Stanley knife blade worked a LOT better and was a lot cleaner and cut for the edging on the doorways. Just as an extra word of advice! I’d also recommend holding the blade at kind of a 45 degree angle when cutting along the edge to give it the smoothest finish possible. ❤️❤️ happy renovating my friend!!
Aaaaah thank you so much!! I hope you enjoy - I’ll be posting more regularly this new year so prepare yourself for historical projects, thrifted finds, and my general brand of oversharing! 🥰
I ca't speak for other threads but the reason they didn't cut the threads at the bottom of the dart is because it's a tayloring standart thing. There is a reason for it if you (or anyone else) are curious lmk^^
Hey! That totally makes sense on the darts, since from what I’ve seen it’s relatively normal not to backstitch on darts. Would love to hear the reason you know of as well! There were definitely a lot more stray threads in the underneath of the skirt than I otherwise would have expected, but since it’s lined I suppose there was less need to go cutting every stray thread since they didn’t expect someone to go muddling through the guts of this specific skirt. 🥰 not their fault! Just a surprise for me, and quite validating, hahaha.
Loved the finished Corduroy and Velvet skirts! Well done! I so enjoy your videos and your little kitty! (P.S. I am from the 80s and wore lots of Corduroy)!
Aaaaah thank you so much! Hahaha my little kitty tries to be helpful but rarely manages to actually help - more of a project manager really 😅 and don’t worry, given my own love for corduroy you’ll be seeing a whole lot more of it on this channel, for sure!
Aaaaaah I feel your pain!! I’m currently challenging myself to finish the mending on EVERYTHING in my pile and it’s taking a lot longer than I anticipated, hahaha. Hopefully I’ll be able to share that video soon. I believe in you and your ability to mend all that needs to be mended! 🥰
Thanks for sharing. Please show the final kitchen more. Can’t get a good visual from close up snippets. I recommend Alexandra Gater’s channel for some great rental friendly inspiration.
Hey! I totally agree, I should have shot more footage of the whole kitchen. ❤️ definitely a mistake on my side of the editing process. I’ll make sure to include some bigger shots of the space in my next video and link to it in the bio of this one for other people’s reference. Thanks for the suggestion!
Thank you so much! It’s so pretty on, and I think it looks especially lovely with a little petticoat underneath. 🥰 it really helps the silhouette. Thanks for watching!
Also came here from reddit. Love the edits, content and exceptionally chill vibe. Vintage looks are timeless and this video emphasizes this perfectly 👑
I would almost suggest just pinning/basting the dress to your measurements, disassembling it to pull the pattern from it, then remaking it longer and better fitted in a similar/better fabric. I notice the lines in the plaid aren’t lining up very well, for instance. I would also advise leaving a spare inch of breathing room, since metabolisms slow down with time and it’s good to have a little breathing/eating room. I’ve seen a few YTers tailor everything quite snug, then have to declutter it a couple of years later.
Ah thank you for this fantastic advice!! I agree with you, breathing room is essential - i will definitely keep this in mind as i proceed! I think you’re also onto something in terms of using it as a pattern rather than remaking it/reworking it with the minimal fabric available in the original. Here’s hoping I can pull off something nice though 😇
Hi Indi! I'm a new subscriber and I LOVE your channel! I'm from the USA and find everything about you and your channel very charming. I love WWII era. I'm fascinated with the history, fashion, and style of living and surviving in such a difficult time. I would love to see any Christmas crafts you might have planned as well as renovation videos of your sweet home and historical subject videos. Thanks for sharing with us folks out here in la-la land. Hope you have a great day! 🙂
Oh my goodness thank you so much for your kind words! ❤️ it’s lovely to know my channel is reaching the right people and I can’t wait to share my next projects with you. 🥰 I’m currently powering through a massive mending spree of all of my vintage pieces that have been waiting all year - so there certainly that to look forward to right now!
Shocking about how little people wear their clothes before trashing them. I have had most of mine for years! And wear them until they are no longer wearable.
I know! I constantly hear friends talk about the pressure not to “outfit repeat”, especially at events like weddings, and I can’t help but be baffled by that concept. I’ve got two lovely dresses I bought 4 years ago that I recycle for every occasion that I can - I couldn’t give a hoot if everyone’s seen me in those outfits before 😂
I enjoyed your video. You got some lovely items. Not sure about the final dress, but I’ll be interested to see what you do with it. I love shopping in charity shops and getting better quality for my money. I’ve had some great finds. It’s addictive!
Hahahaha don’t worry I’m not so sure about the final dress either! I think I’ll be able to do something fun with it though - I’ll just have to figure out what that will be if my one and only half-baked plan doesn’t come through immediately perfect 😂
I have only come across your video today! You have a new subscriber. I am a fellow Aussie & thrifter & I can see you have a great eye. I absolutely love Princess Highway too!! I look forward to seeing your videos in the future. ❤ from Brisbane
Aaah thank you and welcome to the mess! *waves hands jazzily* Hahaha it’s lovely to know a fellow QLD thrift enthusiast! Looking forward to sharing some of my next projects with the world, and would love to know what your favorite thing is that you’ve managed to thrift 🥰 my favorite thrifted item of all time might be my typewriter, or my collection of Agatha Christie novels.
That russet sweater was an especially great find. I have to admit the dress was a little bit of a letdown after all that lead up haha, but it definitely has potential with alterations and being styled. I'm so glad more people are on board with the idea of using your nice things in your daily life. Gone (hopefully) are the days of decorative soaps and china that lives in a cabinet (except for the lead-glazed stuff, that can stay decorative 😬). I have to mutter to myself "use the nice things" almost daily because otherwise we have stuff like expensive spices that go stale because we're saving them for something "special." 😅
Believe me, the dress was a let down for me too 😂 it’s funny how we build these things up in our heads! I’m still hopeful I can get it to look nice and work with my wardrobe, I just have to figure out how to drop the waistline enough for it to suit my body shape I think. Well done on using your nice things!! It’s an ongoing battle, but it’s the only way to make those memories and heirlooms worth it in the end. ❤️🥰
Such a good vibe watching this video! I always laugh when people talk about the "$ per wear" as ive been one to wear the same clothes for years till i cant mend it anymore. Easily hundreds of times minimum. So many great finds! Loooove the Gaiters, they are one of my fav old accessories that i wish would still in fashion. Such great potential with that dress, i hope it works for you well!
Aw thanks so much! Yes, the concept of one-wear clothing is unimaginable to me! I am very much a “wear it to rags” kind of person, so I’m glad there are similar minded folks out there. I live in hope of fixing the much-awaited dress!! Hahaha 😂
