@@MR-Teeee That's really cool to hear that your grandpa traveled everywhere by bike. I hope that you get the chance to travel by bike as well my friend! If you ever have any questions about bike touring, feel free to reach out. -Daniel
Just heard you on “What was that Like” podcast and I rented your doc on prime. This is so inspirational and I’m excited to watch it. Thanks for sharing your adventure/journey. ❤
Hello Daniel, I really appreciated the positive energy and your nice eye for the video plans while keeping the organization simple. I admit that in Italy, I would probably have lingered a little longer towards Tuscany and taken the path to Slovenia. Switzerland (I live near Geneva) is very repetitive and nature is not as beautiful as you think. The all-bike side in Holland seems like a dream. The Nordic countries have such a lead (I also believe people of superior intelligence). Here, I am distressed because I sometimes try to offer 'travel bike' workshops with old bikes, low-tech equipment (this is what I developed even if I dream of a belt-driven e-bike 😉) but most of the time, young people, and even old people like me (55 years old) simply do not have a bike. For me, missing out on the freedom that cycling offers would be like telling a bird that it should give up its wings! I think there is a gap between us. The most absurd thing is that I often offer unusual outings, for example photography and picking of wild plants, and thanks to a simple bike equipped with a luggage rack and panniers, you can bivouac for a night, enjoy a extraordinary tour (without having to carry a heavy backpack) all thanks to trains + bike. I like to practice 'slow' cycling which corresponds to the speed of butterflies, sometimes slow sometimes fast, and casually, we end up crossing continents (like some butterflies). It’s a tempo that you must have savored to know that it exists! Have a good trip and thank you for the wonderful sharing^^
This trailer made me spend the couple bucks to watch the full movie. I biked 250 miles this past summer and looking forward to more in the future. This is incredible!
Hey Andrew! Thanks for your support. So you biked 250 miles? Cool man! Where did you ride from and to? If you have any questions about bike touring, feel free to reach out! -Daniel
Hey! I preferred to talk to the locals instead. It gave me a chance to connect with the people that I met and sometimes they had better routes for me to take. -Daniel
Listened to your interview on Seek Teavel Ride podcast and thought about a ride you should do...the European Divide. Ryan Van Duser did the ride from the top of Sweden down to Stockholm on his Priority 600x bike during the summer solstice...he said the divide goes all the way to Portugal.
Hey Steve! Oh man, that sounds like such an epic route! I'm gonna look up Ryan Van Duzer's video about that. I would LOVE to do that ride! Thanks man! -Daniel
Great movie! It has that feel from flicks made in the early 1970s when someone steps up and reminds us of who we are without the politics, civil unrest, media blitz, and flatout information burnout. In a time when civility is dying of a thousand cuts, it's good to know we're not totally lost.
One of the very best videos I've seen of it's kind. Your production values are tops and music, nice! Apart from the farm interlude in Suisse I spent 30 years doing just what you're doing and loved it. btw I would think the gun going off was to scare the birds, no one would have been shooting at you to scare you off. Thanks again for the video. Freedom indeed!
Hey! Thank you so much for your kind words! So you have been bike traveling for 30 years!? That's amazing!!! Where are some of your favorite places to ride??? -Daniel
@@NoahsBike Hey Noah! Thank you so much for watching! I am really happy that we had the chance to talk, and I look forward to seeing you again! -Daniel
Hey! Here is what I brought: Tent Sleeping Bag Sleeping Pad Bike maintenance stuff Cooking Gear Toiletries Mini Solar Panel Gopro and Tripod Foam Roller for body maintenance 1 pair of pants 1 pair of shorts 3 pairs of cycling underwear 5 pairs of socks 3 pairs of regular underwear 3 shirts 2 jackets Feel free to ask more questions if you want. Thanks for watching my film! -Daniel
@TheTravelinDude wow! Thank you! I attempted a tour before, but it only lasted 25 miles. I think carrying way too much weight, not eating right, and going solo. If I had been with someone else, I may have completed the tour. But by myself, my mind was gone. I wasn't thinking correctly. I did everything wrong. THANK YOU!!!!
@@johnrobertd748 Yeah, carrying too much weight can definitely make it not a very enjoyable experience. I can understand how traveling with someone else might have motivated you more. Bike touring can be really mentally difficult! I know what you mean.
Watching this 2 years late but what an incredible film. Very well done and inspiring. I’m going to do Amsterdam - Rome and this video got me so excited!!
Hey! So you are going from Amsterdam to Rome!? Awesome man!!! I am super excited for you. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out! Have a great ride!!!!! -Daniel
Hey! I met that family the year before when I was traveling through that village. I asked them if they needed help for the day, and they let me work with them. After we finished work, they told me that I was welcome to come back the next summer and stay with them. There are some cool programs where you can find a similar experience. Look up WWOOF.NET and WORKAWAY.INFO. I biked across Europe again this past summer, and I am currently putting together another movie from that experience. I am looking forwad to sharing it on this RU-vid channel soon! Thanks for watching! -Daniel
Daniel.. devi cambiare il movimento centrale.. fa rumore. Comunque hai conosciuto un campione italiano della bici.. Mantelli.. era un passista 😮❤ Bellissimo il tourche hai fatto in Italia e in Europa.. Complimenti ❤
Hey! Thanks so much for watching. I biked across Europe again this past summer, and I am currently editing another movie! I am super excited to release it. It is almost like a "Part Two" to this film. Thanks for your kind words! -Daniel
Oh man, I am so happy that you felt some strong emotions while watching! Thanks so much. I recently got back from another bike trip in Europe, and I am currently editing a new movie. Looking forward to sharing it with you! -Daniel
The 1st days riding is often poor when arriving via a port and it takes time for me to acclimatise. Then through a series of interactions, excersie and a sense of adventure the mood keeps rising. That's why I love bicycle touring.
1:38 lol I'm glad I'm not the only one mentioning the lack of a bike shoulder in European road, tunnels, bridges, etc! I had a bit of acclimatization to this by riding a bit in the city, but in your case you just jumped straight into the crocodile infested lake of European car and truck traffic!
haha! yeah, the riding got a little sketchy in some of those places. But man, the cycling infrastructure in the Netherlands was like a dream come true!! Thanks for watching my film. -Daniel
He Daniel, it's a few years back this trip I guess, but what a fantastic trip you made across the old continent. And what a beautiful video to show it to the world. I guess that time working in the Swiss alps will be a special and spiritual memory for the rest of your life!
Hey! Thanks for watching my film! You know what's funny? I am actually in Europe right now, and I'm making another film about bike traveling through the continent. Yeah, I agree with what you said about working in the Swiss Alps.....It is a special and spiritual memory! I just loved how incredibly peaceful it was up there. I noticed that I slept SO GOOD while I was there, and I think a big part of the reason was because I didn't feel any kind of stress.....That village is unlike any place I have ever been. Thanks for your kind words about my film. -Daniel
Hey! I have an American passport, but I am trying to get Italian citizenship so I can stay in Europe for more than 90 days! I would love to live in Italy one day.
@@sarvajitkulkarni8271 Thank you! I have always thought it was such a cool language, so I studied it for a year at the university. I love how the Italian language has a lot of emotion in it!
Great journey through Europe, loved the Wet Descent footage....bur washing your hair and brushing your teeth in the local town fountain will not go down well and usually end with negative interactions with the locals. Best find a garage or a quiet graveyard.
Hey! Thanks for watching my film. I like how you are aware of respecting the towns that you travel through. But just to be clear, I was not brushing my teeth in the town fountain. I was just getting some water on my head. Its funny you mentioned a graveyard though! I have actually slept in a small graveyard on one of my bike tours in the US. So I am guessing that you have also slept in a graveyard? haha
Im a happily married man from the north of England, but dude do I want to hug you and kiss you on the cheek. Thank you SO MUCH, I must adventure more. Please make more videos. What is the yellow high vis shirt you are wearing a lot please?
Hey Ted! haha thanks man! I would definitely welcome a hug and kiss on the cheek from you my friend! The shirt I am wearing is "Spotti men's cycling jersey". You can find it on Amazon. In regards to making more videos, I am actually biking through Europe now, and I am making another film. I am excited to share it soon! Thanks for your message. -Daniel
You've done justice to an epic ride with this great film! Really enjoyable to watch. I'm sure every time you eat an apple you'll be thinking of that experience in Austria :). Happy cycling!
Hey! I like your RU-vid name! Thanks for your kind words. Haha yeah, I definitely think twice before picking fruit from people's yards now. Thanks for watching! -Daniel
34:32 how did you end up in this tunnel? 14kms long wow. Usually it has signs that forbid cyclists. Thanks to the good guy Sebastian. I had a good laugh at the Apple story. Great video!
Hey Michael! Oh man, I guess I didn't see the sign that said no cyclists! That was a crazy situation. Yeah man, Sebastian saved me! In regards to the apple, haha man.......I can laugh about it now, but I was SCARED when it happened. Thanks for watching my film -Daniel
Hey Tom! Thanks for watching my film. Some of the mountain passes I rode over were: Stelvio Pass Fluela Pass Oberalp pass Furka Pass Grimsel Pass Grosse Scheidig Pass Kleine Scheidig Pass -Daniel
