Struggling with this but trying. Trouble with the transition from turn to the wrist cock. Right now, drastic pulls from the driver to short irons. Feel like too close to the ball at times.
I would recommend seniors switch to hybrids, especially in the long irons. I carry a 3, 4, 5, and 6 hybrid, and I'm considering a 7 hybrid. Hybrids are so versatile and easy to hit, a perfect club for seniors.
Love your swing! The one thing I noticed is that your hips appear to be barely open at impact. I've heard recommendations like 34 degrees open but yours seems much less. Thanks
Thank you, I used to turn my hips more but that’s when I damaged my back, that’s why I changed and I’m pleased to say that I’ve helped 1000’s of golfers overcome health issues and improve their golf at www.Propergolfing.com
Does it matter if your wrists are slightly cupped at the top of the backswing as I find I am not flexible enough to get the club far enough back if I try and keep a flat wrist?
I have looked at hundreds of golf videos to find the elusive secret of a good golf swing and I always come back to your videos and I have to admit that they are the best instruction to learn a simple repeatable swing without manoeuvring the body and hands into all kinds of contortionistic positions to get the same result. Thanks.
Very helpful, thank you both. I'm doing the "plank" for 1 minute each day and my back feels better. Thank you both for your immensely helpful and authentic advice☘️
Thanks as always, Julian and Jo. I played on the weekend with someone who had a short swing, and his accuracy, power and distance were impressive. It also seems to reduce errors and mishits from full swings. I will give it a go in the net today! I've tried many other swings so, why not, maybe this is THE one!! :). BTW, what is the monitor/launcher that you use?? Cheers, Frank.
I was genuinely shocked when it went further, I’ve hit a lot of balls since making this video all with the same added distance 😀 the monitor is a Foresight, excellent piece of equipment
I followed Brian’s method for years and continued to watch you as you carried on his teachings to where you are now. An expanded version making it more interesting but still simple and easy to understand for everyone at all levels, especially for seniors like me at 76. I have lost distance and am anxious to try this tip in lieu of forcing the swing to gain that lost yardage. Brian would be immensely proud to see what you have accomplished. Carry on for us seniors. 🇨🇦👍👨🦳
I think your shorter backswing still incorporates your great wrist hinge, which is essential in my opinion. Anyway either of your two swings is acceptable. So good news for back sufferers!
Very helpful, thank you both. I'm doing the "plank" for 1 minute each day and my back certainly feels stronger, and golf doesnt hurt it. Love your authentic advice☘️
Any long broomstick putter will do. If you know this style of putting is for you and you want to spend big bucks ($600-$700) on the best putter - the Bobby Grace F22 (which is what I'm using in the video) or a LAB DF 2.1 are the cream of the crop. If you're still in the "experimenting" stage I'd get a less expensive long putter. Google "broomstick", "sidesaddle" or "face on" putters and you see all kinds of less expensive options.
Julian, thank you for the one arm golf swing. I'm a right handed golfer who's been pulling/hooking my shots, because of right arm dominance. Unfortunately, l experienced a right arm bicep tear recently. I just accompanied my wife while she golfed, and decided to try your one arm method. So using my left arm, I did some chipping and to my surprise, my chipping was superior to my normal chips. No tees either. However, I'm looking forward to my recovery, and your tip will most likely help by tempering my right arm dominance. Thanks again. Dick
Sorry to hear about your injury, but in a way it has enabled you to learn a new skill, take these learnings to the course in the future and should you need help with your golf I’d be happy to help ( www.propergolfing.com )
Julian, I once again tried to hit with one hand, and now it seems I either top it and goes left or I hit behind the ball. This is the same issue had before when I used both hands. I thought my right hand had taken over the swing, but it may not be the case. Something else is bugging my swing. I will try to continue the one handed swing, while hopefully my right bicep will heal quickly and I can go back to the two handed swing that hopefully gets corrected. Thank you Julie.
Julian, thanks so much for this video! I thought I lost my swing a couple of days ago…devastating! I was doing so much better, then disaster! Watched your video, went to the range with two large buckets of balls, and did your exercises. Regained my swing and had a very enjoyable round later. Thanks!
I was practicing my wedges (52, 56, 60 degrees). I was hitting down fairly hard to take advantage of the “bounce” of these wedges. I went, then, to hit mid-irons (6, 7) and I was unconsciously I using the wedge swing….a fair amount of tension in my arms. Totally shanked the mid-irons and couldn’t stop. My wedges were ok, but irons… terrible. So, your exercises were great for getting me out of the tension.
Great Thoughts! As I have work with your program I have become less result oriented and more movement of my swing oriented! Results are lower scores! Just missed a 79 today (putt on last hole)
@stevenolmstead is exactly right. Too many tips on lag and body turn. This did the same thing for me. Saw a junior doing this and tried it and remembered seeing you video I tried it and BAM! Beautiful consistent draws on command I would maybe add the intent on where to START the Release. It’s kind of the same idea …..as the arms come down as the butt of the club approaches the right thigh Start the release and then just keep the butt traveling and pointing at the right thigh. Kinda helps me time the release. Body is turning so there is still shaft lean at impact. So It’s not flipping
Once again, great tips. I have tried using my wrists more in the past and I’ve popped up my shots. Any advice for whipping wrists while avoiding popping up?
@@JulianMellor I tried your advice on using wrists while practicing. Worked very well. Now, to make it work on the course. It does create a much more effortless swing.
Thanks for the excellent advice. My wrist use is much better. However, I sometimes hit a terrible shank to the right. About 80% of time, things are going well, 20% I shank. Thoughts?
Strengthened my back considerably with yoga, pilates classes and doing the plank, and pleased to say my belly is now flat again. And yes, noticeable difference in my golf game, swinging playing without any twitches or pain at almost 70.
@@JulianMellor I had prostate cancer and the treatment particularly hormones injections really messed me up, weakened my core, which in turn weakened by back, and the injections led to massive fat increase mainly to my chest and stomach It took lots of will power, positive thoughts and 18 months of the exercises to get back in shape, so not a quick fix. But well worth it
There are bad backs and there are BAD backs. Muscles, ligaments degenerative discs, prior surgery etc…. Not all back pain is the same or at the same level of debilitation.
Thank you both for such a helpful video. I will definitely take your advice seriously, especially as I am 64 years of age. I watch a lot of your previous videos and I especially appreciate Julian's easy effortless yet powerful swing. I try to emulate your tempo. Incidentally, yesterday I swopped my Big Bertha Alpha 816 for my wife's shorter, lighter beginner driver and hit thw ball just as far as with the BB Alpha. Also, using a slower easy rhythm neant my constant hook wasnt as destructive as normal. I wonder if an easier swing promotes a more natural instinctive chain reaction, especially on the downswing. I postulate that it is better than a deliberate action. Anyway, thank you both for producing and sharing such a wonderful video.☘️

Good morning both, good to see you back on the tube. I enjoyed this one along with countless others you have put out there and can report back how much the content from your library has helped improve my game after a six year break from this fabulous sport. As a now retired greenkeeper I have sustained a number of back injuries over 40+ in my work, despite some discomfort I'm determined to improve my game and looking forward to more easier swing (classic swing) content. Many thanks ⛳️👌
Hey Julian and Jo, I am a perfect example of years of that Bad swing. I had a Medial Block procedure last week. Resuming playing golf tomorrow. Julian I can play with no or very little pain using your proper golf swing! Also scoring better! Thanks again! Michael
Hopefully you’ve made a good recovery. If the swing is hurting you that must ring alarm bells for all golfers. Pleased that you’re benefiting from the PG method. So pleased for you btw
Great video, I have a complete fusion of my lower back. Thanks for this video. I would love some help on what to do if you have had a total knee replacement. I just had my surgery a month ago. Thanks Again Julian
I was led to believe for many years that your lower body should start the downswing and as a result I found my arms never really caught up. After listening to Mike Austin who said that he released the club from the top and made sure his lower body rotated I finally got the hang of it. I can see in your swing you really do the same thing. So many teachers insist on focusing on keeping the lag as long as possible when the golfswing really is , as you say , a throwing action back and forth.
I don't know if you'll read this, but I think you have one of the most graceful golf swings I've ever seen and I aspire to having the same, instead of the powerless effort I currently have. I really shouldn't be a sweaty mess swinging the club, but I'm trying so hard to hit the ball far, and it's not working. I'm going to try your method from now on. Thanks J.
I have indeed read your message, I used to try and hit the ball far with force but when my knee and back were so painful after hitting just a few balls I knew there had to be an easier way, good luck with your transformation and if you need help check out www.Propergolfingacademy.com
You might be onto something here. The baby boomers are a huge target market in Canada and the USA which are passed over for the younger crowd. We have the money and time for the game but aren't receiving the attention.
I’d agree Rick that they are not at all looked after well and misunderstood with regards to their mobility and flexibility. It’s taken me years of study to figure out how best to help 👍
Julian, I’ve watched your videos for a long time. My coach has been emphasizing hip turn on my swing. But, I increase tension when I do this. What role does hip turn play in the easy swing you teach?
The most fun video on golf I have ever seen! Jo stole the show with her humor but techniques were great! My wife found it so much fun to watch! Great job guys!
Thank you for all the great information I will definitely be practicing this new swing technique watching you do that makes so much sense I don’t know why I hadn’t thought of it earlier thanks again
