Too bad that this mall reached it's pinnacle just as the concept of enclosed malls began to fade. Online shopping also affected the mall concept, so easy to shop from home, but the downfall really escalated for Owings Mills with that robbery and murder. That threw up so many red flags that shoppers stayed away.
I used to work at a place in the valley below this and there was always a weird rusty orange water that came from there and trickled through the site I worked at rumor had it that there is toxic waste buried in that landfill
I live in Owings Mills, I live less than 5min away from here and use to go to this mall all the time. They had fabulous fashion shows there. Hard to believe this is the same place.
I used to be a janitor there when I was in high school. Went to northwestern. Was intended to be a high class mall with stores from New York. Then the subway came...
I remember spending most of my childhood at that Waldens Bookstore. Not to mention that Clint's Comics used to be in there and Hobby Haven. Also was at the tail end of Nicklodeon arcade being there too. For some reason it perpetually smelled like burnt cigarettes in there.
Such a shame this is gone. Seph without doubt captured some of the most iconic and seen pictures of rolling acres. It’s part of history as far as I’m concerned.
I can see why these places declined. They are so so 1960s. Probably appealed to the boomer generation (and older) who were more parochial and weren’t interested in traveling. I agree with others that with cheaper airfare, people probably were more interested in finding exotic beach destinations than going to northern PA lol
“Arcade Legacy, one of the last remaining tenants, moved out of the mall (and relocated to Sharonville, Ohio) in September 2022.[73] A month later, WLWT reported that the mall is slated for demolition along with 825 other buildings across Ohio, as part of State Governor Mike DeWine's Ohio Building Demolition and Site Revitalization Program.[74] The mall was finally closed on December 2, 2022 after city of Forest Park fire department closed all remaining businesses (except Bass Pro Shops and Kohl's) due to a number of fire code violations”
I got to thank you for showing me this ... i spent so much time in here .... hate to see the way it turned out ... BTW ... you might of got the last photos of metro north mall ... it no longer stands ..... it has apartment buildings there now ... i wish you could of see it when it opened ....
I think I once saw an article that England was going to have a "human" exhibit at one of their zoos. It was asking for "volunteers". It never materialized. It was also in a tabloid, so it probably wasn't real.
