On this channel I post Automotive Photography tutorials and tips videos, some BTS of my shoots and hopefully some general photography content in the future.
Hmm i guess you need cooperate customers for this no privat person pays for car photography. Even the 250-500 you mentioned for top guys are not really enough to make it worth it. I would not even move one feet out of the house for 50. this is gas money
I’m not sure if you are still answering but I have a 85mm 1.8 a 50mm 1.8 And a mc11 mount with canon 55-250mm 3.5-5.6 lens which would be best to shoot with
Great video, Is it £250 per car? I didn’t understand when you said per session? Do you cover multiple cars in one session, if yes how many minimum and maximum cars. Also does this charge include photography and videography both ?
Great video, thank you! I'd never thought of using LR to create a panorama with an 85mm lens. When using LR to merge images, do you recommend the spherical, cylindrical or perspective projection option?
I find that the cylindrical option usually gives the best results. But remember you can also use corrections to sort out the perspective once the merge is done too.
Loving it video one right after other learning a lot being new to car photography whitch I’m bring in to my nitch I do portrait and family photos my idea in car photography it to get some good photos to sell and get clients to want there car with or with out them thks again
This was awesome video I am a photographer I do portraits and family but what to go in to car photographing as to help me gain some extra funds and o will do as u have said start off with free one at first then start of small amount of change one question how many phots should I get in one session in average to make it worth it
Thats a good question. My forst reaction is at least 1 really good one. But i usually aim to deliver 10 to 20 final images with the detail images included. But it all depends on how long a session you have etc.
I tried light painting for the first time this week. Results were amazing if I do say so myself but this video has made me realise I now need photoshop 😂
Thank you for sharing your knowledge, Ive noticed that all of my my weekends consist me editing car photos nonstop to the point I'm loosing interest.. then I told myself no more free shoots, after doing some research I found this video and I really appreciate you kinda setting a standard on what should be charged.
The question is what f-stop to use? My lenses all have 2.8. Is that fast enough or should I buy another one, maybe with f 1.4? And then, which focal length makes sense, considered that I already have a 24-70 2.8 and a 105 2.8.
It all depends on the situation and type of images you are trying to shoot. Also on one hand the answer is work with what you have, on the other hand why not get the best with most options. I love the 85mm 1.2. But its an expensive option.
@@OliverLundy Is there a use case for a 1.2 lens in car photography? Close ups with 1.2 look great, especially on detail interior shots, but then I'd rather use 35 mm. 85 mm is a great focal length for exterior shots, but at 1.2 almost everything is blurry. Oh, and thanks a lot for your answer by the way. I didn't expect that when I realised how old this clip actually is. :)
This was one of the best explanations I have seen so far! Thank you very much for that! Its been really really helpful! I had really similar thoughts about the topic myself, so this was quite a good reassurance that my way of thinking was kinda correct :)) Also good work mate! I love your photos!
gah that brenizer method! I keep forgetting to try it out very since you taught it to me a while back! Amazing shots my man and love how you talk us through your method. you deserve way more attention/ subscribers for actually educating us and taking us BTS.
I depends alot on the time of day, the later in the day the more options you get, overhead midday light is the most stark. Direct lighting angles, (the sun directly behind you) is jot the best as it flatterns out the image. Back-light looks great but can be challenging. The truth is there are alot variables and you have to experiment to get to know what works best in different situations.
Lucky to have gotten access to this car park. In my town all multi-level car parks at hotels and malls are denied permission for car photography 24/7/365 - no reasons given when management rarely even responds to requests. Western Canada, northern town.
@@OliverLundy awesome work on this. I’m trying to do the same with Harley Davidson motorcycles. But my images are flat and interesting. Sessions too rushed. Poor location management.
Yeah I do it for some shoots, it comes down time and or how much I am being paid as weather its worth the extra editing time. But your right it does enhance an Image.
Congratulations on a great channel! As an "old" man, who had to learn how to take pictures the old fashioned way, I would say that you have made a lot of good videos that the younger people out there should see! Nice that someone is trying to put their finger on the fact that you don't become a "photographer" by running into the store and buying the latest equipment that an influencer has bragged about on RU-vid! I had an evening photography course in the mid-90s. The world was completely different then. But the boys thought about equipment, and the girls thought about composition and aesthetics... which comes first? What is important? what came first the chicken or the egg? Good luck with your channel, it deserves many new followers!!! I started following you :) Greeting Pål (Paul)
Very well done. Information direct and relevant. Setting can "conversation" made me feel like we were finishing drinks after an excellent meal. And yes a lot of rude a**** will want it all for free. But start high and offer special discounts for friends or the nice people at the cars and coffee that you have pestered for the last 3 years. And yes I am talking about me. Just found your channel and putting it on the list next to LastXWitness ;)
@@OliverLundy I’ve upgraded from D3400 to D850. Shooting cars and motorcycles mostly at meet ups. Struggling between using Nikon 70-300 at around 80-100 5.6 to 8 . But images look like shot on toy camera. Focus always soft. DOF small. Trying a Nikkor 50. Are you till hot on the 80 1.8 Do you find issues with distortion when doing motorcycles?
@jeffreykeeney5363 many factors go into focus, but lens quality is one of them. I love the 85mm 1.2 I have. Its my go to for almost everything. Partly because it has no distortion. That usually only comes from 35mm and wider.
Hi man, I am using K&F CPL and put my camera on the hood, but I got a rainbow from the rear view mirror, I try with different CPL, Lenses, and still got the rainbow. Do you know how to get rid of this unwanted rainbow? Great video btw..
As someone who recently has been building a portfolio I really appreciate this video! I was fortunate enough to find one of those perfect clients right away who valued my work, paid, and was ecstatic with the results. It felt very rewarding. I am curious, do you primarily shoot automotive photography or do you dabble in many different types of photography/videography? I’m thinking about getting into real estate photography to get more consistent work/pay while building my automotive portfolio at the same time since that’s what I’m passionate about. I just can’t force myself to work another corporate job where I’m depressed and miserable so I really want to make this work
Glad it was useful, it is hard at the beginning. I do other types of photography too, and I also work a full time job. It is hard to make automotive you only gig but it can be done. Look into track work and events. The skills you have and will learn as you get better are certainly useful in other areas. And you can build up as you go. I do weddings, video work events, portraits the lot. It all helps.
Dude, your suggestions are so on point as I prepare to go out tomorrow to shoot a car meet. I'll probably use my RF70-200mm primarily. Do not have the RF85mm
