Herren Project is a national nonprofit organization established by former professional basketball player, Chris Herren, providing free resources and support for the treatment, recovery, and prevention of substance use disorder. Since 2011, we have helped thousands of individuals and families navigate the road to recovery as well as made positive steps in the prevention of substance use disorder. We are 100% funded through private donations, so every donation makes an impact.
Our RU-vid channel offers inspiration and empowerment through impact stories, informational webinars, youth prevention and outreach resources, as well help and support for individuals and families affected by addiction to drugs and alcohol. We aim to support, inspire and empower each other while celebrating recovery, healing, and wellness through healthy activities! We’re here every step of the way with you, because together, we recover!
Chris came to our school for a talk a few years ago. He seemed disinterested and annoyed to be there. I went up to introduce myself, as I was excited to meet him. He seemed put out to say hello to me. It made me feel like it is all an act. He is one person in front of the camera and another one when no one is filming. Of course everyone has a bad day and I want to assume positive intent, but 400 students left that auditorium that day pretty disappointed. He was the most expensive speaker we have ever had at our school and he just did not want to be there.
When a person understands that to be connected to the world, natural elements, animals, birds, is MUCH more important than to find connection to another human being, grace comes and struggle almost goes away. And by “almost” I mean a necessity to stay present in the lives of others to help them. Even if we do not feel a connection but only responsibility. Only a forest, a field, a sky, a cat, a bird can accept you purely as you are. Humans see you through the convoluted prism of their fears, wants and needs to be entertained. Great Book!
I wonder if people really know how much addicts like me suffer feeling alone... Trying to do the right thing and change... And how much it means to us hearing people like Chris share their story. Accepting the consequences of my actions and the losses I've experienced as a result are so hard for me to let go of. I'm exhausted living in the same pain that began 7 years ago. It just leads to more pain. One day I hope to be clean and sober and that the pain is finally over.

I went to school in Fresno and played high school ball there during Chris Herren's time with the Bulldogs. He was already a legend before he got there. Maybe notorious was also the word because everyone knew he was still partying. But it's crazy everyone always pulled for him. Once and a while the RU-vid gods will suggest a channel or video with Chris Herren talking about his drug addiction and overcoming it. I always finish the video even though I know his story from the beginning. It's really cool af that he's become a star and hero but not in the game of basketball but in the game of life and that's the most important game. "If you were a kid, would you look up to you". Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. Keep up the good fight man. Go Dogs!
I can relate to your story for so many reasons. For 1 I lost my twin brother to a hit and run accident when I was still in my addiction and thanks to the Lord I’m 5 years and 2 days sober. You see my sobriety date is on July 17 2017 my mom’s birthday is on July 19 which is today and I can honestly say that my mom has her son back thank you 😊 for your story.
I don't deserve to tell my story. However, hearing this makes me believe someday, someday ..I'll make some difference too. Sober for a year. Maybe, probably, more than ever, the struggle is harder than ever. I still keep on. I'm not going back. I worked so hard. My now, teenage kids speak to me. That's a better high than I've ever had.
Random , im sorry but miss,, EVERYONE.. EVVEERRYYOONNE, deserves to tell their story… I jus turned 28 12/12 , STILL in active addiction & can’t help but feel like I’m losing the fight. I prolly seen every single recovery story & addiction documentary on this website just for little glimpses of hope but this battle is individual & cunning .. we can’t do it alone, but no one but ourselves can get us out of it.. tell your story,, tell it long , clear and proud mam.. 1 YEAR IS A LIFETIME COMPARED THOSE FIRST COUPLE OF DAYS!!!! Charles, I hope this message finds you well. I have been addicted to many things, but The Lord Jesus Christ has taken those from me. He has strengthened me to not want those things. He loves you Charles. He knows your internal hurt and pain. He knows how others have written you off and judge you, when they themselves suffer with more “acceptable “ addictions. Sometimes, many times, when we are lonely, alone , forgotten, and depressed, it can be hard to even muster a word or two in prayer, but say, “Lord Jesus help me, Lord Jesus heal me”. Believe me this prayer is enough! Say it a hundred times a day, or whenever you can. Just muster the strength to call on Him with those words. He hears you and he is with the broken hearted. May The Lord guide you and send the right people and friends into your life to help you stay on track and help you live for Jesus and without those things that plague us. Blessings to you tonight! ❤️

Hello what should I do if my daughter stole gold from me and I was able to find out and buy back some of it Have proof that she and her friend sold it to the store She said that she doesn’t know about other items How I should make her accountable? Should I report it to police? She doesn’t work

THESE DAYS SHOULD THE FEMALE POPULATION BE VERY AFRAID TO MOVE ABOUT AND VENTURE OUT INTO THE WORLD AND EXPLORE....
