My spider lilies bloomed next year after I had put them in ground. I was quite disappointed the first year I had planted these..I didn't get any blooms and only the foliage and that too vanished after a while. Thanks for confirming the bloom cycle
Thank you for the info/ID! I'm in NC and we inherited this bulb when we moved into our home about 11 years ago, so I've never known what it is. Rapid multiplier indeed. Not sure how many we started with, but we divided the bulbs and have hundreds now. All the descriptors are very consistent with my experience, and the fragrance is perhaps my most favorite of all the narcissus I've grown. Not overpowering or cloying, just enough sweetness.
Beautiful! I have 4 pots of these, have to take them in when winter comes. Zone 7. They turn brown, I bring them out in spring, boom, they are ready again. Love them!
I kept one as an indoor plant in a sunny window. When the leaves died in Automn, I unpoted the tubers, kept them in a paper bag at room temperature, and replanted them in April. They all grew back. Caladiums are wonderful plants. When grown indoors, they usually need staking to keep the leaves nicely displayed.
You would have to dig these up every year. Because red spider lilies are apt to NOT bloom for a couple years after they’ve been dug and transplanted, I think it’s probably best to try some other type of fall-blooming bulb for blooms that time of year. I’m not saying it can’t be done, but it would be a lot of work and the reward might not be there.
Unfortunately we don’t ship internationally at this time. But if you find some and give them a try, I hope they do well for you! You would need to be in the most temperate areas though - most of Canada is too cold.
I might have missed it but I don’t think we had any crocuses in there! They usually bloom for us in January, and these bloom in late February/early March. :)
Which bulbs like wet areas. The garden stays went during the fall winter and early spring so which bulbs can I plant that doesn’t rot. What is there a suggestion that I can use to plant high? North Texas- 75407
I grow most of the bulbs you mention and find them to be reliable like old friends always coming back !!❤Barret Browning is stunning , Tee tee is smaller and very showy ,Thalli is a beauty and really naturalizes well here in Athens, Georgia !
I am so thankful to learn the proper name Lent Lilly ! I found these 25 years ago driving in the country and passed an old home site that was screaming yellow covered with I bet over a thousand blooms ! They had colonized and were every where ! It was a lovely site ❤!
So I can still order bulbs, even though they’re not gonna bloom and go ahead and plant them and you say that they will come up in the fall and winter months? Just asking for clarification so I can place an order.
Great question! Yes, you can still order bulbs. They just bloomed, so you are planting now for next spring’s bloom. So make sure you still plant them even though it’s for next spring’s bloom. You are going to see the foliage dying down naturally when you get your bulbs. Let that happen and don’t cut it until it’s completely died down (brown and getting crispy). Your bulbs will happily lay dormant all summer long and will start growing again next winter and bloom next spring.
Saw these growing wild by the side of the road in Cornwall last year - nearly crashed the car every time I drove past... Amazing!!! I wanted to stop and pull up a few corms but the road was too fast and narrow.... Just ordered 50.off ebay after eventually finding out their name -
Hello, I was wondering if there was any place in the UK that has a lot of summer snowflakes, like a farm or public space. I am trying to take pictures and videos of these flowers. If you could share any information you may have with me, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you
Crinum ‘Ellen B’…foliage appears in April, blooms mid summer! Generally 2-3 blooms over a period of a month around mid-June. It is cold hardy though and has survived in the ground at the farm all the way to -3 degrees! Slight fragrance, but really nothing we’d ever highlight as it is very faint. Crinum ‘Summer Nocturne’ and ‘Mrs. James Hendry’ have much better and stronger fragrance.
Love Southern Bulb Company. I first discovered you after I bought my first house....with a yard...and wanted to plant the oldest daffodil, the LentbLily. You guys were the only place I could find them at the time. P.S. I need more! Also, I need to research planting paperwhites outdoors. Thank you for your video, and Merry Christmas to you and yours!
Every year for the last 10 they bloomed. Nothing has changed weather wise. All the neighbors had the same situation. Hopefully it was just a fluke.@@chriswiesinger Thank you.
We had VERY few spider lilies bloom all across the region this year. Our only conclusion is that last year’s sudden hard freeze (which prematurely caused the foliage to die back in late December) followed by a very long hot dry spell this summer caused them to skip this year’s bloom. It’s an interesting sensitive response to the weather, because like you, ours have healthy foliage this year and seem to be doing well but with few blooms this fall.
Leesburg is in zone 9b so it is actually the heat that affects the growing of daffodils. You will need early-blooming daffodils; however, there are several that bloom early and will do well for you! Look at our heirloom 'Italicus' which will bloom in late January/early February. Another that will do well for you is the heirloom 'Grand Primo'. While you can’t grow “daffodils” with trumpet shaped golden blooms, they’re in the genus Narcissus and you can grow other Narcissus like Narcissus tazetta selections: paperwhites, ‘Grand Primo’, Erlicheer, possibly ‘Golden Dawn’ and others. Though not a daffodil, you should certainly give the Leucojum aestivum "Snowflakes" a try as well as they do very well in your area and bloom in March.
Thank you for the informative video. I have always loved having these in my yard growing up but after moving away it has taken me almost a decade to collect a good amount of bulbs. They surprise me from time to time with their blooming cycle. I do not think they like to be moved, it has caused mine to skip a year.
Been two years and mine are finally flowering, they really are a surprise… I don’t remember where I planted them all. Thanks for all the quality bulbs. 😂
