In July, 2020 we bought our first Ford Transit cargo van and spent 9 months converting it into the van of our dreams. Now we do the same for others. Follow along as we take you on our travel adventures, as well as share information about how we convert our vans.

Why not try a different approach with your vanlife mini-split? Merge the front and rear ac systems. Get rid of that custom split condenser with its attached fans. Under the hood, replace the vehicle belt-driven ac compressor with your three-phase electric inverter compressor. Leverage the original (or route additional) rear R134a lines for cabin cooling. Provide a relay so the vehicle's front condenser fans are also responsive to cabin demand when the vehicle is not running. Wire the electrical compressor to also be responsive to the (formerly) ac clutch signal when driving. You've eliminated a lot of weight, because you're using the vehicle condenser fans and coil that're already there, while replacing the belt-driven compressor with an electrical compressor is weight-neutral. You're using the larger front condenser, and keeping it out of the mud, both of which increase system efficiency. And you've moved two noisy components -- the condenser fans and the compressor -- to the front under the hood, which reduces noise in the cabin space. And, by eliminating the "additional" condenser and fan structure, the whole thing is considerably less expensive! Sounds like a win-win-win, right? Outcome: while driving, the vehicle ac works as it always has, and when stopped, the cabin cooling works even better than it did with an undermount condenser. Quiter, more efficient, less expensive, lighter weight, the condenser stays cleaner, and the spare tire can stay out of sight. What's not to love?
Game changer is right - I cannot handle a visible toilet or having to move it in and out of bathroom if I shower. I like that the toilet can slide away.
Thanks a lot for your video clip. My transit doesn't have the base part under which the mirror can be hooked . Here in Korea ,,, Small number of Transits ware imported to South Korea . I don't know the parts number. If you know it , I wish you could share it.
I'm in the power wash business, and there's a cool seal for bulkheads called UNI-SEAL... They sell them as small as 1/2". If I were you I would run those where you have the holes in the metal so the wires don't get cut over time
Im trying to use this in my classic truck because in Texas if i let the 454cu engine idle it burns about 12 gals of fuel a night and risk overheating engine. I hope this works great. Wish i could afford a Mercedes sprinter lol no thanks
I got excited seeing this, as it seems like a no brainer location in terms of moving weight lower in the van and freeing up solar room. I saw the price at almost $4000 though, and my jaw dropped. Disappointing as it's fundamentally not more complex than a 12V roof unit.
Amazing video. We would like to show this video on our channel with your permission. We will add your link and your name will also be mentioned in the video. Let us know what you think
WTF you got like a 3D scanner??? If I had this much space and a whole entire garage full of tools and $200,000 or so to spare sure I can do this pretty damn easily too.
I think the monitor that shows how level the can is should be placed up front with the driver so adjustments can be made while driver is parking the van.
How can I get in touch with you to discuss doing a build? We're looking into doing this, and this is the best build we've seen yet. I love that you've put 900W of solar on this new one... unreal. I want to pick your brain about a couple things we'd do differently if we did a build with you.
So many critics here. Looks like you did this several months ago. What were your results? I presume you would have not published or deleted the video if it couldn’t track the sats. I saw what looked like you seal it against water. Can you give an update please?
We’ve now made hundreds of these and the original ones have been in use for ~6 months with it any issue. They work while in motion with the basic mobile subscription
When I saw the time lapse of this van, I was blown away. I am even more impressed by your detailed instructions. You both have inspired me to look into doing the same with this model.
