In answer to the question: "What did you think about the premise of the show?", I completely disagree with both gentlemen. My firm belief (and yes, I'm an old Trekkie) is that NO Starfleet commander would have made the choice to strand their crew as Captain Janeway did in the pilot episode.
Wow, it's incredibly that they didn't just give Seven a reasonable costume that could have been mic'd instead of wasting tons of money re-recording all the dialog. Then again, we know berman doesn't see women as people so I guess I shouldn't be surprised.
Ethan Phillips character Nelix was boring and useless. I wish they had had a more interesting character helping them like a Delta quadrant scientist or a real diplomat. Nelix was forced on us. The reality was that no one had real respect for what he was doing but anyone pretended they did. When they replace Kes with Jery Ryan the ratings went up. The same would happen if they had substitute Nelix. The character Nelix gave a childish tone to the serie that doesn't match the typical sci fi fan.
@@jayrowell2468 I respect your taste. People tend to like what is similar to them. I saw a survey a few years ago about which Star Trek actors they wanted to see at this sci-fi event. Ethan Phillips was #18. Just look at Dragon Con, Comic Con, and other conferences. You hardly see Ethan Phillips invited. Jeri Ryan, Kate Mulgrew, Tim Ross, Robert Picardo and Roxann Dawson, are invited much more often to star trek events than Ethan Phillips. I am not saying that people don't like Neelix, What I am saying is that people in general connect other characters much more often to the Star Trek doctrine than Neelix.
Still more tolerable than the doctor, who was hysterical and a real pain in the ass. Neelix is not my favorite character but if I have to choose between him and the doctor I would choose Neelix...he had the vibe of the Ferengi maybe that's why some people find him annoying.
@@mistylucysanchez I think the character had a lot of potential and liked the actress, but the writers just gave her a bum script in a lot of episodes. Anyone was better than Chakotay though. Sad that the actress is in pretty rough shape these days.
