There's not enough support for indie and amateur creators. This leaves people feeling discarded, ignored, and in extreme cases, broken.

Our heart breaks when people abandon their own lives instead of creating beauty for the world.

But with accessible training, resources, and a community of other like-minded artists, they'll get the inspiration and confidence they need to get things done.

They'll finally write that poem, finish that video, craft that sculpture: the one that keeps a grieving man from taking his own life, inspires a woman to start a world-changing non-profit, or heals the wounded heart of a bullied child.

If creators have support, they'll spend less time feeling lonely and lost, and more time making a beautiful world.

Hi. Where do I start? Previously, I have read The Comedy Bible and Steps by Step to Stand Up Comedy. Great books (How to structure jokes, etc), but I came across your video and took down your list of comedy/writing/Improv books and obtained them. I'm currently reading (and highlighting like crazy) Comic Insights - it really blew me away. I really enjoyed the deep dive into how to study comedians that make *you* laugh, breaking their jokes into their molecular structure and studying them. The portion on finding your honesty within your comedy POV and having the courage to speak it was such a revelation. I have been doing some Open Mics, but now I have more knowledge that will help my writing of not only the 'what' but the 'why' of comedy. I know doing videos is tough and many times you feel like 'Is it even worth it?'. I'm telling you it is. Thank you for sharing the knowledge you've gained through your comedy journey. You rock.

I took Groundlings basic to writing lab 1. It was a fun experience but unfortunately I was informed by my WL teacher that I wasn’t a fit at the end of my grad show and was cut immediately after. I would highly recommend anyone to atleast take basic, I met my best friend in LA shortly after moving to LA thanks to Groundlings. You meet awesome people who can be lifetime friends. It’s not about the venue as much as it is about making relationships within the community.

I just did Basic. I really liked my teacher, and I think that he gave an interesting perspective that differed from other schools. He didn't pass me (honestly I was having trouble adapting to the Groundlings style so I was expecting that) but since the course started at a very beginner level there was no way I was spending another $600 to learn how to say "yes, and" again.

I feel like this is a big problem with their structure. Few people who fail feel like they don’t “get” what’s being taught. Retaking the class is simply to prove you can please the teacher and pass. You don’t get much from retaking except more reps.

I have ADHD, anxiety, and depression too! It's hard to balance sometimes, and I think one thing we often do to ourselves is set our standards SO HIGH that it can make creativity not fun anymore. So I try to remember that if I make something a chore, my ADHD won't wanna do it, lol. We have to find other, softer, more fun ways to motivate ourselves and that works best!

Great breakdown! Can’t wait to see you breakdown buttons/endings which I’ve also found to be the most difficult but often the most rewarding when pulled off. (Sometime though I will have a button in mind and have to figure out the sketch in reverse haha!) Would also love to see you break down the differences between improv and sketch (also where they compliment) like how each differently handle things like the platform and conflict Also would love to see your thoughts on using a release of tension between beats as a means to escalate the action even more! Great work! Clearly and excellent teacher ^_^

Starting from a button is a great idea, I will have to mention that in the video! I'm actually working on a blog article right now about the differences between improv, sketch, and standup. I'll probably do more about it now that you mention so we can compare them more! That's a great idea, too, about releasing tension. I can think of a couple of sketches that do a great job with that. I'll definitely do more on the format and how to use rising tension effectively! Thank you so much for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed, given that you were MY first sketch teacher! ;)

This is a great question! There are a few things I haven't been doing that can definitely help growth more, I just haven't had the time. For one, RU-vid shorts are performing great right now. Most comedians I know post primarily short, funny reels on instagram, TikTok, and RU-vid shorts. You can post the same one on each. In fact, on my personal channel (this one is more of an advice channel) I post my standup and it does pretty well, and it's not even high-quality audio or video. What will really help is jumping on top of trends... I am bad at that. You can see none of my videos use trendy music or hop on trending topics. If you follow trends and make your own spin on other's creations, like using an audio that's popular on TikTok, then you'll see more growth. I just don't like keeping up with trends, so for my own sanity I don't do that as much, but it does keep my numbers down!
