Welcome to Simple Life Reclaimed. Here we Share our Life in Videos. We're a family who lived in the AZ Desert and SOLD IT ALL to be Debt Free, move to the Forest in Arkansas to live a new self sufficient life. We bought 41.36 Acres of RAW land with our Bro (Country Road Cure). We are DIYing our dream cabin homestead in the woods. Being raised in the City (VEGAS), We're completely new to everything about forest living, construction, homesteading - but we're willing to try our best for our children's future. We decided to start Vlogging for our own benefit (to have fun "home movies"), make friends, and to possibly help others to learn as we learn along the way. We reject a lot of modern "society norms" when it comes to how we view the world and what is important to us. We want to teach our children that life is an adventure - and to live it freely, kindly, & wisely. This channel will follow our life's journey as we grow as people in this new chapter of our life. Thanks for Joining!
I’m so glad that you came through the fall without major damage. Mel, you’re a tough woman to go through that fall. You go girl. I did see the scaffold rocking before it collapsed. I had to close my eyes and I think I stopped. I really love your family. Hod Bless you.
The entertainment when you build is supposed to be how much construction you got done. Instead, I had my heart in my throat watching you fall like that, Mel. Construction is dangerous. Please, be careful.
Terrified when you fell! Hope you are ok. You’ll feel that for the next few days. The rafters look awesome. Never imagined it would provide so much shade. Please be careful both you and Gary. ❤❤❤❤❤
Omg Mel, That looked horrible so pleased your not badly injured. I really don't trust them things on wheels, I know you say the wheels were locked but its still not safe. I think I prefer ladders after seeing that. I know Gary will look after you he's a good one xx
Rafters look great, but that was hard to watch. I felt your pain! The one thing I was happy for was that you didn't land on the scaffolding. I could see a "bike type" injury being a girl and having fallen on the bar of a boys bike. Double ouch! I'm sure the hip and leg hurt enough.
Mel I am so glad you are ok. I hope your hip is ok. I hope Gary is ok too it had to be hard for him to watch what happened. Praying for a quick recovery for you both.
Thank goodness that you didn't get serious injuries from that fall. Please consider to turn your scaffold 90 degrees so it won't tilt, and use some stop blockage for the wheels and use some safety harness Please.
Ouch, that hurts what I saw you fell. I noticed the floor fixing first before the roof , then move on to the top roof from next to next. Just give the advice. I screamed at her & knew she would get hurt.
While It was scary, of course.. It shows the reality of working to build a house. Not just for folks like you who are building stuff themselves, but folks trying to clean gutters, folks getting toys off roofs, and of course even professional builders who do this stuff daily to pay the bills. Honestly, seeing it.. I didn't see an obvious human error. It seemed to be a weight balance issue with the scaffolding, something hard to predict.
omg mel your very lucky you did,nt go over the edge hun just glad you did,nt and you landed on the decking area hun keepsafe while doing that that goes to the both of you
Mel please be careful on scaffolding it can cause severe injury or death. It should always be tied/nailed to the wall. Especially the narrow ones. And don't lean over the edge.
I did not watch the video yesterday from Malaysia… so freekin scared to watch… Nevertheless, just watch it 😩😩 Gary n Mel, please take care ya… Sending love❤❤❤❤❤
Good thing you held on with one arm two would have been better Always have you emergency exit in mind when climbing. Awfully glad you survived injury free could broken an ankle or leg easily
Wow Melanie that was a scary spill. I know that had to hurt. Could have been much worse. Glad that it wasn't. I've had my life pass in front of me like 4 times so I know where you're coming from. Once was a fall. I fell 2 stories down an elevator shaft in an 1800's wharehouse. the 3 ft deep water in the pit in the basement saved me. Stay safe out there. Ladders and scaffolding are the worst. I used to work on pump jacks. I hated those things. The build is looking fantastic.
Take care of yourselves guys!!! You have done a great job and we want you to live another day 🙏❤️. The wheel on the scaffolding got too close to the edge of the ZIP board. Watching you go down in slow motion was painful.
What I would like to have seen was knowing your lags your putting in the lower board would be that it goes through the roof board & into the house rafters. If only connecting to the roof plywood it does not seem like it has secure grab power is all. You will have thought it all out & Im sure you've got this. If the two of you agree you should have secured it. 👍
I have watched this video times now and I am more confused now than when you started. And I don't understand Gary's drawing because the door is in the wrong place.
I was like 😮oh! Thought you were going over the edge to the ground below. 🥴🫣. So lucky you fell inwards towards the house Mel. 🙏🏻. It’s also time to put up guard rails between posts. And maybe wire on a couple pieces of wood to the scaffold angling out to stop the tipping over. You two take care now.
I've been torn on saying anything about your roof framing, hoping you'd work it out. Your kick-out rafters ideally would have been attached to the side of your gable fascia. And there's no need for it to be a tripled beam. I know you are past that now, but hopefully it helps you make sense of what you weren't seeing and why it wasn't making sense. Your last straight rafter would have been at the edge of your roof, you basically carry your house roof out straight out the whole way, edge to edge like you have been, and the angled rafter kicks off from the side of the existing fascia to create the new roof line. It's like framing a dutch hip roof. Having the angled rafter on top creates issues with things not lining up right. You can at least go back and fix it if you can't find a way to make your method work.
One of the castors went down the hole in the floor, but good to see you are reasonably ok could have been a lot worse, please cover the floor properly before some thing worse happens! Looking forward to next video and I hope to see the floor covered! Hope you get better sweetheart take care!
