This is a channel where we can discover disc golf content. Some videos are to help you grow in your sport while other videos are just good content to watch when being lazy. I have been playing disc golf for over 12 years. I feel in the last 4 years, I have really grown as a disc golfer. Improving my distance and knowledge when it comes to the game. I am here to share what I have found in my journey and hopefully pass along that information to help you grow. Everyone is different and we all are just looking to get better and grow with our skills. Please feel free to comment with your opinion but just remember that there is no wrong way, all comments are welcome as long as they are helping to grow the sport with love and kindness behind your actions. Welcome to Let It Fly Disc Golf.
According to techdisc I throw usually about 66-67. However, I throw an average about 6-7 degrees nose up. I throw fairways consistently 420, but only throw distance drivers about 15-20 further on average. I guess nose up makes a big difference with faster discs. No matter how hard I try to throw nose down on flat to hyzer release its nose up.
@FirstPersonDiscGolf. We tried to stay true to the data. We used a Bushnell range finder to get accurate distances. We didn't use UDisc at all. Also, I had my brother range the distances after each set to ensure the data wasn't skewed. The distances are true to the game. While most of these guys can throw further with more speed, I wanted to see how far they could throw with minimum speeds. Pretty entertaining and it also should make you think. Thanks for the comment.
with a metered checker pattern behind you in frame you can do the math to find your disc speed. i haven't done it, this just came to me as i was watching this. Pretty sure the youtube chan 'smarter every day' has a printout and instructions for how to do this in a general way. but 1x1 squares of a known dimension can be used in relation to measure your speed if you can get the recording in enough frames. pretty sure modern phones would be fast enough for this or can interpolate enough for this.
I've seen a video out there that shows you how to do it. I can't recall the guy that shows it but he's tall and he is a disc golf coach, hes studies aerospace engineering or something to that nature.
I’ve had a TechDisc now for a while and as an MPO player I throw around 60mph and roughly 400ft. You and your bro have decent form but the other two are a little odd yet they were throwing faster? I don’t get it!
Its pretty interesting. Seth has really good snap and Dupont uses his hips in his throw. It is tough for them to slow it down though. Sal is very control and he has taught me a lot for my form. Trust the technique.
I hope it helps. Sometimes is can be deflating when you feel like you can't get the distance other people can but disc selection also helps a ton. Form and arm speed as well but with minimum effort and increase arm speed, this will do wonders for your distance.
@@let_it_fly_dg I’m pretty sure my biggest hurdles, for now, are spin rate and nose/launch angle. I’m 51, accurate to around 285-315. Would love to get about 40 more feet of distance to reach a few more of the holes in my area. Still have one fission wave in the bag, but basically throw 5-9 speeds at this point
My goodness Sal throws what looks to be 30 mph and yet >55mph. Crazy. 57 mph Sapphire 156g and can throw 432 ft!! My 55mph throw feels like I'm jumping out of my skin and I could not possibly throw harder and my Beast can go 300ft. So sad. I guess technique is important. I land with my front foot wide open and so I have no coiling and have to use all arm. Hard to break that foot habit. Videos of myself make me cringe.
Yes, Sal has really clean form. He has been working on it for several years but every movement he makes is detailed for accuracy. I feel like he can throw faster when he slows down and if he could keep that in mind, he would be even more amazing. Thanks for the comment, hopefully the comments don't go to his head. Lol.
Pretty good testing! 55mph is about as fast as I can throw, but due to bad form (and the other metrics not being so good) I get maybe 300' at most in the course, and usually less than that. Nice to see what's possible for me even if I can't increase my throwing speed. Gotta get those other metrics up! 😁
Nick, I have seen your videos and I know you have been working on your nose angle. Disc selection is also important. Check out the opt air bolt, they do wonder for people that have a slow arm speed. Just need to dial in the angle release. Thanks for the comment.
You will get there Todd, put in the work and make sure you are correcting the things with the intentions to make them concrete in your form. Thanks for watching.
Wayne, I let the disc rip out of my hand. You want to keep your hand closed on these type of shots. This will allow you to put more rotations and have the speed it needs to do its thing. Its not a death grip but you want to make sure your hand is closed after the disc is released. I sometimes tell myself "Keep your hand closed". Check out my grip video. I hope it helps.
Wow, cool! I am really excited to have won!! The discs are great molds for my son and I to practice hyzer flips with. Love your logo as well. Can't wait to sport the shirt out on the course.🥏👕
Good question. I am working on a video as we speak on how to control your angles but short answer for now. You want to maintain the upper body mechanics and bend at the waist.
@@let_it_fly_dg so the flight plane is directly related to the angle of the upper torso. So that’s how you throw nose down and still hyzer? I tried the nose down (drag the disc on the ground feeling) and I chucked several at least 50’ past my normal distance. I’m excited to learn more. Thank you 😊
Liked this one Tony, I have been trying to work on my Backhand and have a couple of times had a “miracle” throw. I am struggling to figure out what happened when I did… Need to get in the field and see if this helps…
Thanks for the comment Kevin. Its just a different swing path that works for me and I hope it works for you. I love when throwing far just happens but it does make you wonder what am I doing right and some days it just all comes together.
No worries Edgar. Just make sure you are subscribed, like the video and post you comment below based on the instructions in the video. Thanks for the comment.
Hey! Love the instructional vids. You do a nice clean, slow and articulate delivery, easy to follow. I started playing disc golf this year in april, my good friend @tom_hood26 got me started. Currently my biggest struggle is throwing anhyzers.
Thanks for the comment. Throwing anhyzers can be tough, I realized that you can cheat nose down for this throw. You have to get the nose down for anhyzers to fly correctly without stalling out in the air. Work on your nose and record yourself, lean back at the waist and keep working on it. Try and keep you elbow up when doing this, it should help.
Thank you for your video. I started playing disc golf about six years ago because a friend of mine would not stop inviting me. Of course I fell in love with it and have never looked back. I am 52 years old and I think that the thing I struggle with most is, seeing these young guys in the videos talking about throwing 500+ feet with this little tweak in their form. The farthest I can throw is 360 feet and that’s with everything going perfect. I struggle with being jealous and trying too hard, which leads to injuries. I appreciate you, reminding me, Danny said, slow is smooth and smooth is far. Thank you very much for your contact. God bless you, Todd.
Todd, 360 is good distance but I feel you. I have a lot of guys I play with throwing to far and it is difficult for them to slow down on the easier shots. I worked on being more consistent and that has helped me out tremendously. But I still strive for extra distance and I have been getting their but I do have to rely on my flippy stuff. Keep at it. Thanks for the comment.
Hey Tony. Digging the channel. Been playing regularly for about five years and a few years occasionally before that. My brother-in-law introduced me to the game, and I have a good friend who gave me a bunch of discs to get started with. I struggle with pain after a round and am probably using too much arm and shoulder on my throws. Would like to get same/more distance without the pain.
@soundseas, yes this is important. You don't want to be feeling pain after the next day. Feeling sore is different and eventually that will go away because you are working muscles that are not normally being used. But pain is a different story. I developed tennis elbow pain last year and that is when I realized I was pulling and muscle-ling down. when I threw. Check out my video on this changed everything. I think it will help and trust the process.
This is my third season and my son got me into the game. Really interested in trying that little space on the palm of the power grip. I am going to give that a try.
Started playing Spring of this year at 52 years old. My brother has played for years and got me interested in it. I have a course close to me and I wanted another reason to get outside. My biggest struggle is placement off the tee.
I don’t do any social media so can only post here. I am 3 months into playing disc golf and am addicted so everything about my game needs help lol. So thankful I found your channel as the way you explain things 100% make sense to me. Thanks for the content!
I started playing with my son back in early 2000 just for fun. Then, we started playing again in 2021. This time we played more seriously. I like the content of your videos, you give a lot of good advice that applies to guys that have slower arm speed like me. Thanks
I really like that logo. I was introduced to DG 13 years ago on my 30th birthday. My wife needed a way to get me away from the house to throw me a surprise, so she recruited a friend to take me. It was love at first throw, but I didn't really start working on my game and playing consistently until the past couple years. I still can't seem to figure out distance - I've maybe touched 300 a couple times. If I could throw 300 consistently and relatively accurately I'd be happy with that.
Thanks for the comment James, nose down is the key or getting the nose to be neutral will really help. I struggled with this for a long time. I did get a tech disc which does show you your nose angle but it doesn't teach you how to throw nose down. Check out my video "this changed everything and then check out how to throw nose down". I hope this helps and slow down and trust the process, you might think if I slow down. It won't go far but if you get your technique down, it will. Keep up the great work.
I started playing disc golf for my son's 8th birthday party. It was a first for both of us and we were instantly hooked. Since then, he has taken disc golf up as his homeschool sport of choice. I work from home and we are able to head out almost daily to play. We have been participating in local events and now have his teen cousins playing as well. My biggest struggle is consistency. When I get out there with others, I tend to mentally abandon my game and mimic their approach. I need to learn to stay focused and play the way I know I can be successful.
Marc, I meant to reply back to your comment. You are correct, play your game and not someone's else. My friends throw these booming hyzer shots and that is not me. I can still do those kind of shots and have been seeing some improvement but I know my high to low risk when it comes to course management. This is something you have to figure out and when you are not good a specific shots, work on those when you can or during a casual round. It helps. Thanks for commenting.
Started playing back in the early 90’s with some buddies I worked with (John and Hector) recently got back into it a few years ago with an invite from a buddy named Steve. My biggest struggle is adjusting my form for more distance.
Jeff, I feel you. Nobody wants to adjust their form and go through the heartache of loosing distance, but if you trust the process and practice with good intent, it will payoff. I hope you like the video content. Keep it up.
@@let_it_fly_dg the grip part really is helping my nose angle, thanks for the tip. I’ve used the pour the coffee for a while, but this is the first time I’ve actually heard about hand placement!
This can be tough. It does come down to your arm speed and the stability of the disc but for now with my arm speed, I like to hyzer flip with havoc's, destiny, bolts, and sapphire's. Nose down is really important for this as well. Thanks for the comment.
@@let_it_fly_dg it’s a delicate balance of speed, spin, and angles. Get it to stand up and maybe turn a little, but not burn over. And my speed, spin, and angles aren’t consistent enough. Haha. Thinking I should not worry about too distance as much and maybe hit one angle lines for more control.
I've been playing on and off for 7 years; however, for the past 6 months, I've been hitting it hard and enjoying the game with my wife and daughter, not sure who got me into the game but enjoy watching your videos and Robby C for the amazing tips, my struggles would be consistency off the box and forehand.
Consistency can be tough, but I figure once you get your technique down with your form. You will start to be more confident and realize you can start shaping the shots you like and what you are good at. I like hyzer flips to flat, I don't have a great forehand but I do have a good anhyzer that has gotten me way more distance than any other shot. Thanks for the comment and keep working on your game.
Hallo greetings from Denmark 😊 Thank you for your great videos, this is really helpful. I pull with my shoulders and elbow collapse. Looking forward too see how this helps 👍
Great martin, it will help. You just have to find a middle ground and make sure you are leading with that elbow. Sometimes that is all am focusing on, if the elbow is leading with good timing, the hand has to follow. Let me know how it goes.
