I agree. I am not a religious person, but I am coming to the conclusion that society is probably better off with religion in it than without it. It is somewhat ironic to me that the activist atheists are more authoritarian than are the religious folks I know. Yes, there are extremes on both sides, but sometimes one extreme is worse than the other.
He in fact did not see the link between the people that don’t like Mexicans, but in a brief meeting liked that man enough to ask him to house sit their Southern California beach home. (26:47)
Sam is a litmus test. If someone has a problem with him, it's a problem with them, reflecting their own biases, ideological compromises, and insecurities He's just the kind of person with the temperament and outlook that basically always results in a reasonable take at the very least, if not the outright correct answer. In the rare cases he's mistaken, he admits it and then proceeds to be right. If you're reading this and disagreeing, you're almost certainly wrong.
The Creator (the perfect eternal Intelligence who has created everything) has offered 100% freedom here intentionally so that anyone can choose *freely* to love goodness, wisdom, justice... perfection, which means to love God/Jesus, or not, to fight against perfection, against Divinity. The problem is with those who have used (are using) their freedom for doing evil on purpose. That is why it is not easy to fight continuously with what Satan has done to this world (carnivores, parasites, viruses, bad bacteria... the so called _"weeds"_ in Matthew 13:24-43) and to ourselves ... because *until our physical death we fight with the works of the fallen angels and of their tools, the evil=stupid people, the consequences of evilness = stupidity.* So, the unbelievers of the truth should ask themselves why they choose to fight against our perfect Heavenly Father, when they see the huge suffering caused by the fallen angels and by their tools, the evil=stupid humans, who have used (and are using) for evil intentionally the freedom offered by God.
Most scientists, doctors, engineers... are quite ignorant in many areas (some even in their field of study, unfortunately) but those without God/Jesus are the most deceived. _They should stop being deranged by the truth._ *All evil has been done because of stupidity and the main/worst stupidity has always been to not listen by God/Jesus.* In particular, for mankind, if ALL people (over history and nowadays) would have followed the main commandment from Jesus Christ, *besides to love / respect our Heavenly Father, to love / respect (care for) the other humans as we love / respect (care for) ourselves,* all the crimes and the tremendous useless suffering would have never happen. Without *true belief* in God/Jesus, the following evil facts have happened, are happening and will happen, unfortunately: - so many millions of people killed in wars and not only (following the killing of billions in the Third World War); - so many trillions of dollars, euros, etc. wasted on nuclear, chemical, biological and conventional weapons, on armies, etc. only for killing and destruction... not used for: free better education for ALL, suitable jobs for ALL (without exploitation / slavery), healthier food for ALL, renewable energy, science, eradication of all diseases, better housing (resistant to earthquakes...), financing of useful inventions, recycling, reforestation etc. - sadism, violence, dishonesty, vices, envy ... stupidity in general. We should never fight against each other but only against our lack of useful knowledge / wisdom (for decreasing our ignorance), while loving / respecting each other as we love / respect ourselves, these being the main requests of God/Jesus. Therefore, both true/useful science and proper education are very important to understand God's creation and what is better, regarding the human behavior, so that ALL of us can be not only happier in our ephemera life into this world (while we are still alive here) but also deserving, or at least allowable, for perpetual life in Heaven (after leaving this world). By the way, the problem with the deceived ones is that they do not know enough science, otherwise they would realize the fact that true/proven/useful science is used to gain the trust and after that the fake/unproven (because it is false) science, *on which are wasted the most resources,* is used to manipulate the superficial people, to keep them away from the truth about/from God/Jesus, the most important truth.
👍 listen again 👍thumbs up Comment, even if 👍 is all you’ve got time for!!! Or if all you can think of is…. 👍 again! All of these things… not just this one!
I've watched this lecture several times . Sam's logic and arguments are so intelligent. This talk is from 11 years ago. How history has proven him right!
In all the interviews of Ms. Mitford, I have never heard her asked about Esmond Romilly. I feel that perhaps there is an agreement with all interviewers never to ask that question. I can only assume it is a subject too painful for her to speak about in public.
@thehealthychefri, LOLOLOL That’s an interesting way of you thanking me for opening your eyes to the truth that, what you laughingly call, ‘ savage ‘, Chomsky, is in reality, nothing but a worthless armchair critic, who should not be taken seriously outside Linguistics! So You’re Welcome! 😀😀😀
Privileged upbringing young sisters seeking excitement - one going for Fascism and the other to Communism. Perhaps this explains a lot about the psychological basis of politics.
I've been an Atheist my whole life. Having religion in the 21 century is like using a corded phone or a VCR. It's obsolete and ancient. Belief is not knowing it's pretending to know something you don't. Religion is the prison of the mind.
I watched this classic debate between the much vaunted Mr. Buckley and Noam Chomsky. As is too often the case Buckley does not hold up well over the decades that have passed since he was in what passed for his prime. He barely lets Chomsky complete a thought before he pounces on him with some poorly formulated hypothetical or misinformed assertion that Chomsky must try to rebut or correct before Buckley opens his mouth and lets his grating and unctuous affected Middle Atlantic accent, or whatever that speech pattern is, and spouts more piffle. Buckley can’t help being condescending and dismissive with his too highly regarded wit perceiving Chomsky to be just one more Jew from a from an immigrant family who exploited his superior intellect, certainly superior to Buckley’s and in many ways, and whom he could bully and push around rhetorically. Firing Line was just a platform for Buckley’s self aggrandizing and he will never be remembered for any contributions other than as a launching pad for seventy years of the pseudo-conservative scourge to which our nation has been subjected. Meanwhile Chomsky is the eighth most cited scholar in history. Buckley was a fraud.
Great video. Michael Shermer did an exceptional job in showing how Carl Sagan really was a great scientist. Unfortunately, both Poundstone and Davidson lectures in this video do not show how tremendous their books are. I've read both biographies, and both are nice, although I think that in his book Poundstone punctuates Carl's achievements in a more organized way, including using short sections. But both complement each other. Reading about Carll Sagan's life is also reading about some important scientists of the 20th century. Although Carl Sagan's life has controversies, after reading those biographies I think he is still underestimated as a scientist, more recognized as a writer, but his other achievements that have impacted humanity should be more valued. Ann Druyan has tried to do this and she is right: Carl Sagan's legacy is outstanding and I doubt any other scientist will achieve anything similar in the short term. He was a very gifted person.
