Awesome, I use a Cricut for my paper crafts, its really good. bit of a learning curve to get what you want (scale wise) but still really good to use.good.
Hi, a material question. I understand that you print the sprites on regular paper. but then, do you cut out foam, and glue them together? you don't show that step. So as far as i understand you print the sprites, cut them out, glue them on foam, and then put the pieces together?
thank you so much, yes ive made a lot of new videos and will be uploading them this year. ive found it hard to keep up with youtube over the pandemic but hopefully on track now with this channel. thank you
Thank you for this video! I was looking all over the place just to see how people like you put these things together. Question: Just curious as to what kind of printer you use for this? I'm wondering if my inkjet wouldn't have high enough quality? Also, do you think glossy cardstock would make a difference?
Hi there, any inkjet printer will do and for card stock use around 180 GSM, for best print results you want a card stock that has a sheen/satin finish, gloss is OK but when you cut out your art on gloss the ink can flake off! Best using a satin :) hope that helps, also I will get some more videos up soon, I also design indie games so that takes up my time :/
@@JayRKID Thank you very much! May I ask where you purchase your cardstock? I've been looking online and I guess it's not common for Satin Cardstock with 180 gsm. I see 200+ gsm.
@@mwat4339 200gsm is fine too, I've been getting mine from Wilco UK amazon store, even 220gsm will be fine, you just dont want it too thick as its harder to cut and you see the edges more, nitpics though
around 120 GSM to 160 GSM bright white card works very well, pref silk coated so you get a nicer print with ink jet "definitely not photo paper" as photo paper cracks the image when you cut it. use a silk coated light card :)
It was actually a Xerox office printer at work probbably around 5k, these days though I just use a cheapo £40 inkjet printer as I realised that it's the paper choice that gives you good prints not the ink "to a degree" so if your printing with inkjet make sure your paper is satin finish or bright white coated type and around at least 160gsm thickness :) hope that helps
yeah, you know, sometimes i use 3mm foam and some 2mm sticky tabs, you can get a good effect mixing them up, for large areas though its best to use the 3mm foam board, its cheaper you see
@@victoriamaldonado254 you can uses lots of different thickness really as long as it stays rigid for the size and shape you want. My printer is just a cheap £40 printer, print results are really good if you chios the right paper, don't use photo gloss as that cracks when you cut it, matt photo paper would work well though
It's called black foam board 5mm, paper I'm using here is a 160gsm laser jet card 160gsm inkjet card if your printer is inkjet, thanks :) I have lots more tutorials to upload soon where I talk through everything and free templates to diwnload so please sub 👊
hi there, ok, so the black sheet your talking about is either the (5mm foam board) that I use to back the artwork to make it layered or the (black card) I use to create a dark border around the finished image at the end so no gaps show when placed in the frame :) hope that helps, feel free to ask more questions, also I'm nearly done with a full "talking" tutorial for this with a downloadable template for free :) it will be up this weekend.
Thank you, I have loads more planned and keeping the templates free for everyone too, currently working on the Mario world shadow box tutorial everyone has been asking for but updating it so its even better, thanks for checking out the video
I'm pretty sure I spent a $1000 this week on these damn shadow boxes on Etsy. After spending all that i decided to just learn how to make them myself 😅
I have tried many things but for larger pieces, I use double-sided tape, and for very small things I use sticky foam tabs that are usually about 3mm think, sometimes you have to double them up if you want more space between the thing your placing and the background, hope that helps
It would be easier, yes, but It wouldn't look as good at all. To be honest you could add more depth to this and it would look even better. I think I hit a happy medium between effort and 3D ness. I'll have a free template up soon in a new video so you can try it out for your self :)
Hey there, thanks for checking out the video, I just play the game on an emulator on the PC and save a high quality screenshot, you can also try searching on Google images but you'll need to spend time in photoshop making the artwork with transparent backgrounds, I could do a tutorial on it if enough people show interest?
Thank you, I'm trying my best not to be an over-excited RU-vidr haha although i do get excited about creating things I'm sure everyone watching wants to be a bit more chill :) Thanks for checking out the video also.
awesome it helped you out, I've been preparing to do more on the channel so please check back soon :) will be better in depth tutorials and lots more ideas
