AutPlay Therapy is a neurodiversity affirming framework for implementing play therapy to address the mental health needs of Neurodivergent children, and their families. AutPlay conceptualizes psychological/counseling theory and approaches of play therapy through a diversity understood and informed process for working with Neurodivergent clients. It is designed to assist child and play therapists in selection and implementation of play therapy intervention for children and adolescents toward gains in addressing mental health needs.
I'd love to see you demonstrate some of these games in therapeutic action! I can imagine overcooked getting very frustrating for a client, so that introduces a lot of opportunity for collaboration and communication.
Love your videos! I'm really interested in the pretzel breathing technique you demonstrated. You mentioned something about crossing the left and right brain/mid-line. Where can I find more information about this?
I’m interest in implementing play therapy with video games as well in my practice. How do you do it? 1 session play therapy and 1 session discussing the play therapy?
Unravel Two is a great game I play with my young daughter. It's nice to hear you confirm this as a good therapy game, and something I can use in therapy with my own clients moving forward. Thanks for the other recommendations too.
Amazing range!!! My fave book is “The Brain Forest” written by an Australian neurodivergent clinical Psychologist. Highly recommend to all! It’s the best book I’ve read!! Thank you for your content 🙏
I found you when looking up 'lego therapy'. I'm an expressive art therapist (combined art snd play approach) and I always enjoy developing my skills further and to get new ideas. This puzzle idea is brilliant. Thank you. Keep them coming 👐☺️❤️
Yes you can. All autistic children are different, there is a range of neurodivergent presentation. It is important to match the activity with the child - their play preferences.
Hello! First of all, thank you for all your informative videos! I have studied play therapy under PTUK but will I be able to practice in the US as well? If not, is there any short conversion course or exam that will help me to practice in the US?
In the US you have to be a licensed mental health professional to practice play therapy. If you can meet the requirements for a licensed mental health professional then you can practice. There is not conversion course.
Thanks for putting this short video together. It’s super helpful. I’m a play therapist and will be attending your training in the UK later in the year. I’ll look forward to watching more of your video content before the training.
I love that he bridged his calm space with yours even though he said it divides the two spaces, it clearly connects them! This is such an amazing testament to your attunement with each other!
Omg thank you sooooo much. I just found this channel as a new therapist working with this population and I’m completely clueless 😂I really appreciate you providing this resource to us seriously
I am in a play therapy course right now and am actually discussing different approaches for an assignment and have not been a fan of the old ones since they always rule out autistic individuals. I wanted to discuss AutPlay as a preferred approach to use once an RPT after following the facebook page for some time. Did you create AutPlay with one of the other/older theoretical approaches in mind and make it more inclusive? For example, did it come from Gestalt, developmental, etc. Congrats on the book! Looking forward to ordering soon.
It is mostly a diversity understanding to apply to whatever play therapy theory you are implementing - how to do that theory in an affirming way. There are some protocol suggestions which mostly come from CCPT, Filial, some Theraplay, and directive interventions influence and integration.
I am training in counseling right now and I am really drawn to sandtray therapy. I am really enjoying your videos. Thank you. I'm wondering about aquarium gravel which is heavy, but pretty cheap and can be purchased in different colours. Also Samurai soil - tiny black beads for use in aquatic terrariums.
