On holidays I visited Letterkenny and had a photo taken at a corner of the square - opposite Ulsterbank. My father ran a pub there called the Rainbow bar. I would be only 4 or 5 but I can remember some things. This would be 1950 -52 . He Hugh Coyle also ran the Drambuie out the Port Road.. He followed a well worn path to Glasgow to follow the pub trade. He sadly passed in 1970 while managing Heraghty's Inn on Oxford St in Glasgow...I'm now 77 so I doubt if anyone's out there who drank in any of those hostelries!!.
Omg, I can't believe it. Just seen my childhood friend's Gareth, Darren and Gary at 9.20. I was born in Letterkenny and was moved to London at a very young age. Every year I went back and hung around with these kids. Amazing moment finding this, from around 30 years ago. Rory. (Rocks family, from The Old Town).
I was born in Letterkenny Hospital. My family were from the Old Town and some still live there. I was taken away at 3 years old to London but Letterkenny is still my favourite place on earth. I spent my holidays there as a kid and I plan to move back there in the next few years. So proud to say I'm from letterkenny. ❤🇮🇪
Letterkenny was here long before the planters it was the set of the O'Cannon Clan whom were Chieftains of Tirconnell before the O'Donnell, Wolf Tone was here and this was always stated at laird Hotel, Letterkenny was and is the Gateway to the county that is why it became a successful not just a business hub, but much more. History has been told n tought in many ways retold, why is it people change it, is it to suit others but not the true people of the area that handed down the history over the generations locally.
There is absolutely no record of the O Cannon clan ( Of which I am descended) being anywhere near Letterkenny. The newspapers of the time state that Wolfe Tone was arrested in Buncrana.
Great memories of days gone by.. Seeing family members playing in the. Band and especially my father John J Barclay whom past away in October 26th 2020. And others who has past on close friends and neighbours sadly missed. May they Rest In Peace.
