I'll be there Shawn! Driving up Thursday, then doing the show Friday and Saturday. I MAY hit one of the halls Thursday depending on what time I get up there and if I've got the energy and haven't been burned out by the drive. Man, those people on 695 around Baltimore are crazy! Going to York is a good excuse for me to hit the Roy Rogers in La Plata MD on the way home! Man, I WISH we had a Roy's down here! 😋

First off, I was horrified when the husky stack didn't traverse the tunnel. OUCH!!! I'd love to run husky stacks on my layout, but I have height restrictions with bridges. Sure, I could run single stacks like they outside of Baltimore, but that would defeat their massive appearance and look awkward. As far as mixing K-line and MTH husky stacks goes, I see nothing wrong with running them together. Mainly because it is already a fantasy train to start with, so this is an opportunity for you to add non-conrail owned rolling stock to it. This could be your "what if" consist that you can run with other fantasy never owned conrail items. This will allow you to purchase other cars that you've passed on in the past because conrail never ran them. Just a thought. Hope it helps.

Looked up OGR article, says manufactures consolidate on proportion sizing. One maker may be different than another. I've always thought MTH was true scale and full 1/48, that's why I love MTH😊
Not everything MTH is true scale. A couple of their cars are proportional made to negotiate tighter curves like the Auto rack. The Lionel autoracl is actually true proportional scale. The MTH version falls a little short.
Hey Shawn, I love the MTH Husky stacks. I don’t have that one yet, so now I’ll have to find it lol. It wouldn’t bother me to run the different height cars.
Enjoyed the video , don’t sell them , fix the tunnel. Couldn’t you put a small container on top of the big one? Take the cracked one , weather it and put it in the rail yard as a storage container.
So I have that safety award set because a friend of mine father worked for Conrail and sold me all of his safety award stuff including the set, china, wine glasses, lantern, and a grandmother clock. I plan to take the motor out of that conventional engine and make it a dummy and use my lion master sd70 as the head end on the set.
The MTH Premier containers and well cars are true 1/48 scale. One inch = 4 feet. Using this rule you can now measure everything and find out how "scale" your trains actually are lol. A scale 48 foot container should measure exacly 1 foot long. They are available in standard height and high cube, but MTH doesn't differentiate between them. I actually mix Lionel Husky Stack cars with MTH Husky Stack cars and I think they look fine together. In fact I PREFER the Lionel version because the cars actually sit much lower to the rails, and are made of diecast. Most people wouldn't notice, but the Lionel cars and containers are about two scale feet short of being true scale.
Lionel priced me out of their business long ago. I won't even look at a current catalog. But, I have a basement full of o gauge from lionel and others. Mostly post war and MPC era and I'm having a ball with all of it. It amazes me that I can run a 75 year old American made loco that wears out a few parts. Spend 40 bucks on parts to fix it, and it could run perfect for another 75 years. If it's made in china it won't last nearly as long. I have many post war steamers that will NEVER be tossed out as "consumables"
Shawn they are both scale cars. The kline is a maxi-stack ii from the 80s and 90s made to hold a 40' container in the well and a 40',45',or 48 on top. The mth is a more modern version made later able to acomadate a a bigger container in the bottom. Im not sure of the prototype model because i dont own the mth. But Kline made the earlier versions, maxi-stack one and maxi-stack ii.
Looks like you bought the '02 release, Shawn, 20-95010, and that is the only rd# they offered. There is also a '12 release, 20-95108, that had different containers and was offered in two rd#'s.
Re: your question about trailer height. It would bother me to run them. BUT, I would solve that by just using one trailer on the well car. Not have them stacked one on top of the other.
That top container took a hit, ouch! I like running scale equipment, having both Lionel and Mth 48' well cars, the Lionel containers are undersized and not able to be mixed! Thanks for the video and good luck!
I would run two different scale trains. To me, they look silly together. I wonder if the container box was originally damaged by hitting a tunnel portal?

Nice video. Does the new double stack come apart? If so, what about just running one trailer on the new car, especially since one is broken? One longer but shorter trailer might change the aesthetics to your liking, or not. I like your setup and videos.
Perhaps the k-line cars are not scale.Atlas put out a run of 40 and 53 foot stack cars last year.As usual a fine product Lionel makes stand alone scale stack cars and some semi scale ones too I have MTH premier and railking stack cars and there is a four inch difference
There is a great (although older now) thread on the OGR forums called "O Scale Freight Car Guide: Intermodal Cars" that has a pretty in depth comparison of the different sizes and designs offered by different manufactures over the years. Apparently some of the makers did make concessions to sizing here and there despite being sold as "scale" size. Similar to the way passenger cars are selectively compressed for tighter curves, etc. Might be worth a look to help you narrow down the best fit!
Interesting Shawn. The size disparity between the MTH and K-Line cars wouldn't bother me too much, look at a real contemporary freight train and you'll see cars of different dimensions anyway. However, can you separate those two MTH containers? One container on the car would look just fine and the size difference wouldn't be quite as noticeable. You'd solve the clearance problem as well. As far as researching the car itself as to how many were made with different numbers I've got some MTH catalogs running from 2008 to 2020. If you know what year that car was made maybe I can find out for you. Thanks for posting!
Lionel has succeeded in taking all the fun out of O gauge! Lionel O gauge that is, thats why I buy from MTH & ATLAS . Cheaper, better, DCS is great and Lionel can kiss my 🫏
Cool Shawn, you should modernize the 40' box and remove the roof walks and put half-ladders as they did in the 70's. That would be cool. Ive done that with a K-Line caboose, kline made it easy to take roof walks off cars as they used small pins to hold them on. I run alot of modern stuff with out roof walks but just as in the real world a few still with them remain out there.
There is no need to modernize the box car because the FCC considered the fact that these cars were on the verge of retirement so it was a waste of time and money to adjust them to the new regulations considering they were due for retirement same thing for the truck as well@@Dakman
I was at a train show where a guy had 38 Weaver car and I told him that I would buy them all at $10 each but he would have to deliver them because I could not carry them on my motorcycle so he brought some to my mom's house. Never want to chase away a bargain. I have a whole box of Milwaukee road Orange refrigerator cars for my orange train car collection.
