Colyear street been in a mess for years used to be nightclubs a casino my uncle was the head chef at the casino as well as an hotel some fond memories remember sloppy Joe's anyone? Getting more nostalgic these days getting close to 50
This is what a city under disinfectant looks like. In a strictly woke, H&S and pc society there are no more entertainers which are any good, no more music worth listening to and therefore no more venues to promote this entertainment. People today confine themselves in their homes with the tele and content themselves with watching all the shite on it. Human interaction has been severely curtailed. It makes Orwell's 1984 look like the roaring twenties. Eventually all cities will be like this.
so sad , so much gone, all those thespians who trod the boards, the idea of theatre goes on and there will be more., but was it too far gone to save? Think of the history, and all of the steam trains coming and going , much cleaner and efffecient nowadays , i prefer that, but not quiet so romantic, if only the town council had more imagination, everything in cities has to be so big and domineering , no human scale. so alienating really. i only go to Notts and Derby when i have to.
I remember Derby in the 1940s and 1950s. It had lots of beautiful buildings and was a pleasure to live in and I am horrified by what successive lots of politicians and "planners" have since done to it. The historic market place now has a "fountain" which strongly resembles a gents` urinal and there is an ugly concrete monstrocity called "The Assembly Rooms" which is totally unsuitable for such an historic setting. To add to the stupidity, large new shopping areas have been built away from where the main centre of town was, drawing customers away and leaving the existing shops such as Ranby`s, (later Debenhams), empty and closed. The place has been ruined and those responsible should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves.
@@keithdeley7236 I seem to remember that when first switched on, water from this so called "waterfall" overflowed and ran into nearby shops. Was that "progress" too?
This is very very sad. Derby is almost destroyed and those in power don't seem to care. Perhaps they are newcomers and don't have the same roots, feelings and memories. Or maybe they are corrupt, or perhaps just stupid. If you don't stop them NOW, Derby as you knew it will be gone. Its in your hands.
Well done Nick thank you. I used to run a Karaoke show in the Hip when it was Walkers Bingo Hall. Rob the manager loved it and everyone got to sing on the big stage. Awsom.
council house should be a hotel, council should have moved to GNR warehouse, Playhouse should be in the Hippodrome, quality department store should be in the playhouse.Gaumont should be a cinema not a buffet bar. Its not rocket science councillors.
At constant risk from HGV drivers ignoring the weight limit Also the bridge at the northern end over the River Trent marks the place where Bonnie Prince Charlie ended his little adventure and returned to Scotland.
Great vid, but really sad that these buildings and areas are just left to rot. The Hippodrome and the great northern bonded warehouse alone as a disgrace, left to fall down by thier owners hoping we wont notice.
Hello Desi. Thank you for all of your lovely comments, they are greatly appreciated. I was using the Phantom 4 for all of the video's. I haven't been out with my drone for well over the last year. Watching these video's back makes me want to get out but I don't have the time unfortunately. The colours at this time of year are absolutely beautiful as well which is a great shame.
The problem with the Hippodrome is that Blake Finance, who hold the right to sell in lieu of Anthony's (the developer who brought down the auditorium and stage house roofs in attempting to discover the construction of the auditorium roof in 2008) debt to them want at least 10 times the commercial valuation of the property. The Derby Hippodrome Restoration Trust have been able to get the commercial valuation money for the last 10 years but not ten times that amount!!
Derby only obsessed now with building car parks, student accommodations and more shitty little apartments which lay empty for a while so they eventually fill up with immigrates. No real night life or individual city culture, all gone, taken away for So called progress.
Elsewhere, ex railway goods warehouses have been converted into highly desirable flats, the GNR depot has sat derelict for fifty years! St Mary's goods depot has had a lot of the listed buildings repurposed, so why not at Friargate? Leave it until it is unsafe, then apply for permission to demolish it. the same happened to Devonshire House at the old Royal Infirmary, that was an attractive building that had been made into offices and training facilities before the hospital closed, and could have been sold as was - part of it was also listed, but Morrison's wanted the site for a supermarket so it was flattened (having been trashed in the meantime). Needless to say, with the financial crash, the supermarket wasn't built so another bit of history was needlessly lost.
This breaks my heart. It’s like Derby is rotting away in front of our eyes. Derby as i used to know it hasn’t been the same since Westfield/Intu was built. I don’t even like going into Derby anymore. It’s such a sorry site.
I moved away ... became a horrible place full of unemployed immigrants , decimated buildings and the hideous Intu . It's heritage left to rot. Council corruption
Fantastic rekindled some great memories of my childhood growing up in Cricklewood Rd on the estate, spent virtually every winter as a kid on a sledge in Markeaton Park, thanks for the video
Great yocks this week: Trying to tune into livestream of Planning Meeting 8th April. No bleedin' sound on live broadcast OR the recording. Now they've removed it from the RU-vid Channel. Democracy? I could sh- ..........better.
