@@NickBurnham1 I haven't thought about Myst in forever. The last time I played it was in some person's basement while on a choir tour in college. He stayed up all night lol
Bro this is epic!! I always wanted wizardry but couldn't afford it as a kid. Great videos by the way you got a new sub. Also check out the wizardry update for xbox,ps, & switch I been playing the x box version you'll love it trust me.
I didn't know how to progress or get out of an area so i just sat down, played the flute for an hour. Not that easy to get something that sounds good, nicely done!
Agreed! I've also found it hard to find a good let's play of this game. Especially now with the modern remake just launching. I find it's important to remember where it all started. I've so many memories of playing this back in the day, and I will say the remake is brilliant! They've captured EVERYTHING that is here, but with modern graphics.
While you cannot create a Ninja that isn't evil, there *is* a way to obtain one that can run with a Good party. In the deepest bowels of the labyrinth, there exists a dagger that, when equipped by a rogue, will transform him into a Ninja. Thus if you have a Neutral Thief, he becomes a Neutral Ninja. Ninjas can equip nearly any weapon in the game, and have a pretty low AC even without equipping any armor. I typically run with two Fighters (or a Fighter and Samurai, if you use an Elf you can make a Samurai during character creation if you have 15 or more bonus points), a Thief, a Cleric, and two Mages. I also typically make a Wizard (an Elf can pretty trivially become a Wizard, or Bishop in the original Mac/PC game) for identification purposes but don't take them with me. They do learn both realms of magic, but slower than either a Cleric or a Mage. I generally find higher level spells to be more useful, at least until you learn all 7th level spells. You get your spell slots back resting in the inn. You have a healing spell on your cleric. So the only peole who *needs* to rest in the inn are the casters, barring level-ups.
A Grid Cartographer tutorial on how to set this up would be great. I bought it on sale and fumbled around with it in frustration, then ended up refunding it. I'm assuming you need to select an emulator on their site, load up a ROM and create windows for everything you want, but it's daunting with no instructions given.
I appreciate that feedback and can def see how it would be frustrating to set up at first as it does take a little fiddling. Yeah you do need an NES emulator and the Wizardry 1 ROM, and I unfortunately can't tell you how to find ROMs. But Grid Cartographer does have instructions on how to play the game inside the app using the FCEUmm emulator here: docs.gridcartographer.com/gamelink/emu/fceumm. That should be enough to get you started, I hope that helps. Thanks for watching!
@@NickBurnham1 Hey, thanks for the tips and the link. Maybe I'll try again when it goes on sale again. I actually had all the Wizardry games on NES and SNES, and even beat Knight of Diamonds which was quite an accomplishment. I sold the NES, SNES, Sega Genesis and about 50 games in mint condition with boxes and manuals for $200 at a garage sale. I later learned that just one game alone was an original with a bug that was redistributed and was worth many hundreds of dollars. Big regrets!
Late for the party, but man, did this game kick my butt! Also the mapping tool is glorious! I remember spending more time drawing the map than playing the game itself xD Good times!
@@NickBurnham1 I have the cosmic forge game editor - was about to edit the Savant, but there are multiple entries. Came to the Tubes of You to find which one to edit. The level 38 one it is :). Used quicksand and death cloud to grind hundreds of Rapax in the Al Sedexus fight (twice). I fought her before becoming a Templar (didn't know that was a thing) - Then became a Templar - got the sickness - went and did the Al Sedexus fight again. My first party was too perfect lol. First round, Monk cast haste - then Lord/Valk/Sam got so many attacks lol. Lord (I think...) Valk Sam Mage Monk Ranger -
@@NickBurnham1 Thanks :) - -that was in 2006ish I think - SO much grinding. 6 person party level 10 before leaving Monastery - Played a movie while knocking at the bank vault door type grinding lol Now, I use a save editor - once I get to the grind spot, I simulate the grinding lol
The "Studly Staff" is just a +2 Staff. Great name though lol. Also the Bear and Frog statues are references to Fozzie Bear and Kermit the Frog, which would have been very well known in pop culture in 1981 due to the popularity of the Muppet Show.
What game is he referring to around 46:23? I'm not a native English speaker so I didn't really understand what he said but I want to look it up. Thanks!
I don't know how long you've been on RU-vid, but you've got a new subscriber, other Nick Burnham. And yes, I subscribed both because I liked the video and that we share a full name.
Thank you for upload the stream to youtube. Congratulations for all the modders. I did long time ago 2 mods for Legend of Grimrock I and a colaboration in RRR3 for Grimrock II. I know how hard can be to make a decent mod. Those mods are great.
That map program seems nice. I haven't used it for this game but I have for Ultima, but the auto draw doesn't seem to work. Don't know why, I think I have it on.
I love the Etrian series, and I know it has its roots in Wizardry, but I could never really get into these. It's nice to see a high-effort LP! Thanks for sharing.
Loved playing this game back when it came out for NES. One of a few tricks I did was create a boat load of toons, keep high points and take gold from others. Second I'd go with 3 toons that leveled up normally, and other 3 starters to Murphy's ghost on level 1. Fast way to grind
I agree, although having to press different keys for each option is very inefficient and uncomfortable. It's beyond old-school rawness; it's just not good.
I cant believe you need to pay a extra software just to use other ppl map, the dev is just a muerto de hambre or wtf, charge ppl to see only the map no ty.
this map grid looks like it can be used for allot of games your super smart knowing about this stuff thanks for helping thos that wish to learn to get back into these types of games.
The loud mechanical keyboard is mildly infuriating, but judging by the setup it’s looking like this might be the best wizardry 1 let’s play on RU-vid. I like your chill vibe too
Cool game! Thanks for showing the tools you use. Also, nice pfp! Edit: I found today, the Wizardry archive project. It's a neat website with all the wizardry games, manuals, and utilities anyone could want. If you haven't already, you should check it out!
