I've been searching for 860003 for 37 years. Have scoured every inch of the US of A. Seriously, *HUGE* respect to the owner keeping the original paint and to the restorer of course!

Unfortunately we don't have any videos and footage of the actual restoration. However, we do have the book JUE 477 - The remarkable history and restoration of the world’s first production Land-Rover available on the Porter Press website, which has lots of superb images and information from before and after the restoration.
I can't believe Land Rover lost the bid on this if they even bid on it.? This should be part of the Land Rover collection but they didn't bid enough or even bid at all so their loss. Would be great to see it on display at The Gaydon Heritage centre one day??
Unfortunately we don't know the chassis number but that just makes our quest an even more exciting challenge because we do at least have a few clues. One of the many period articles says it was a 1964 vehicle which, as our resident Land-Rover aficionado Martin Port confirms, means that it is a Series IIA model. He also states that it has a ‘de-luxe’ bonnet which has a more rounded profile than the basic razor edge version and is a specification backed up by the presence of interior de-luxe trim, including door cards. Although the exterior was painted white or Limestone at the time owned by The Three Men, photographs show the interior bodywork to be Land Rover Light Green - probably the 109in vehicle’s original colour, but Martin has also spotted some accident damage picked up en-route, with a noticeable crease in the back half of the tub thanks to the rear quarter being pushed forward following some kind of ‘coming together’. We are searching for more clues to share.

Wonder how much this project has cost in money...but we'll probably never know. Probably if someone asks how much it costs to row a project like this ashore, they can't afford it :-) greetings from Sweden.
To the extent that was technically possible, this film enabled the viewer to sense the experience and danger of driving one of those rocket ships. Only because of the passion and gravitas of Steve McQueen was such a slice of very particular reality able to be produced and that will stand in perpetuity as a testament to the skill and courage of those able to perform at that level.
I had the exact same model in 1975-77 and drove it everyday. I was in high school and bought it from an oil company exec for $2700. Sold it and bought an E-type. Drove that one everyday too. Great cars!
it's more enjoyable to drive quickly on a country road when in my 54HP 1953 MGTD than it is in my 240HP 2007 cayman or 380HP vantage. one cannot "be on the edge" and drive at legal or socially responsible speeds in modern cars.
