logan made a mistake using shiv. Serious Kendall could have big brother'd roman and won and gone on to be everything logan wanted him to be but shiv the shiv in the end screwed them because Logan promised it to her and she couldn't let that go. As was said in season 1 she's a daddies girl and so when logan died and ken was gonna step up she instead screwed them out because she realised she could never have won and would rather just be Tom's wife and tie herself to the company by having his kid because she would never be able to beat ken if he took control.
Roman may have run this better, but clearly she put her in that situation. You don't ask your current boss how the next boss is going to be ? or try to evade his questions or demands.
Three never-worked-a-aday-in-their-lives rich kids acting like they're these business sharks while playing around with their dad's money... it's so funny.
Sarah's performance is amazing here. The awkwardness, the impatience, the eye roll, the inability of talking about personal stuff properly, is a perfect snapshot into Shiv's character.
Well, Shiv, if you stop treats him like a lapdog, bully him with your brothers, not cheating on him and offer him an Open Marriage and being Spoiled Daddy Rich Kid who think you are untouchable with more privillege and one more thing shut your mouth at least once and stop talking trash to everyone, Tom will not betray you.
Women just can’t hang with the boys when we do business. That’s why we invented almost everything worth a damn. They’re just so weak, sensitive, and emotional. I’m happy to keep them as secretaries and assistants though! I’m a fair man.
Why did they make everyone gay on this show? You can have interesting conflict and drama without having a storyline about insecure homosexuality every episode
By no means am i excusing Shiv's actions, however this scene really helps me understand her. The whole point of Shiv being so hypocritical with Tom is because it was how Logan taught her to love, at arms length with competition from others. Competing with her brothers for her fathers attention was her idea of love, and by having Tom undergo that process, it would somehow prove to her that Tom does love her. However, Shiv is so terrified of losing Tom because she actually does love him, she talks on and on about his betrayals in S4 because she couldn't comprehend exceptions to the love her father taught her, that real love is dog-like, no matter how many times you kick them away, they should still come back. And because Tom was the one to kick her instead of it being the other way around, she was scared that this was it, that she would lose him. I think that Shiv does love Tom immensely, however, her father was never a good example when it came to showing love to others. Take Roman for example: if Shiv is believed to be the youngest the she's seen Roman and Logan's dynamic her whole life, she's seen how Roman is constantly abused and ridiculed by their father, a trend which transcends into adulthood, but even then, Roman has still undeniably loved their father. Also, Logan's wives and mistresses also serve as less than decent examples of what healthy love should look like. It's all exploitative, shunning, and carnal; leaving the recipient of Logan's attention devoid of anything. Shiv had to have been affected by this immensely, especially given that she is a woman in a male dominated profession, thus she knew even from her own father not to trust anyone in the end, for her gender is percieved to be weaker and more fragile by everyone around her. This would extent to her relationship with Tom due to the fact that, in a way, he is a rough draft of Logan. Steadily climbing the ranks, very successful, and in some moments a true killer. Shiv has seen many sides of the business world despite her inexperience, so she knows that ambitious men like her devoted husband, can do unseemly things to get what they want. So even if Tom would never do such a thing to Shiv, because he genuinely loves her, Shiv will always have that lingering fear in the back of her mind that she will be be disposed of, she will be kicked away, and she will be left betrayed despite everything she's done to Tom. Again, not trying to excuse her actions! Just wanted to get a better angle at her character.
