Welcome to my reaction channel! Join me on this journey as I check out movies, television shows and music videos that I've never seen before. My goal is to spread positivity through fun and laughter. Thanks for watching! Yours truly, Alexxa Reigns
Definitely seeing this in theaters! It reminded me of beloved by Toni Morrison my favorite author just from the trailer. I wanted to see this play in New York so badly since I heard it was a hit.
It probably won't be on Disney+, since it's made by Universal. I really hope Disney doesn't buy Universal because Universal owns DreamWorks...and DreamWorks is the best as sequels, in my opinion. Anyway, I am so excited for this movie!!!
This is such a good episode. Kudos to Estelle Getty for wanting an episode about AIDS. To have an episode focused on an AIDS scare in the late 80s was really daring and risky because it was still a taboo subject. Besides the serious important message, there's still some really good jokes in this episode. I've seen this episode countless times and still laugh at the "over easy" joke.
Being “promiscuous” in and of itself shouldn’t be seen as either “good” or “bad” anyway. Good things and bad things happen to people, whether someone is a virgin or has 100 partners.
This episode is partly a result of the Golden Girls cast and crew being full of women and gay men (it got a reputation as a “safe space” workplace). So the cast and production team had a bit more exposure to LGBT issues than the average American at the time.
This is easily one of my favorite episodes of the entire series. Comical yet brutally on point while tackling a public health issue in which, at the time, public opinion was still woefully misguided and venomous.
This is such an important episode n such a brave episode for that time. When Blanche says- AIDS is not a bad person disease, u could see the anger n passion in her eyes. It's moments like these, these actors show u more than just acting. Knowing how close to home it was for Estelle Getty, I can only imagine how they must have shot this entire episode. These girls r just angels n the entire team is amazing.💛
This show took on themes like homosexual relationships, cross-dressing or AIDS at a time when no one else did and in such an healthy way. It still blows my mind how they got through the censorship back then. Both Estelle Getty & Bea Arthur were very active in these matters. I heard people telling Estelle was bringing chicken soup for those who were already sick which was as effective as the medication available at the time, but she tried. These ladies were just great.
It's important to remember that AIDS isnt/wasnt exclusively a gay thing though. Yes the majority of AIDS victims were gay but there were alot of people who weren't, a big part of them from tainted blood transfusions like Rose. Not trying to minimize the impact it had on the gay community but it should be remembered as a general health tragedy that affected everyone.
@@Georgina-lv9btWeeeeelllll… that is true, but the fact is that the early years of the AIDS epidemic definitely hit gay men FAR worse than anyone else, and societal views about gays fed into the stigma around HIV.
The 80s and 90s...so much was not known about HIV. I like that they didn't shy away and had one of the girls not be comfortable with it (realism) AND that they were also not afraid to argue against the lies people would say (many did/do say it is "god's punishment" for homosexuality) and show support for those who had/have HIV or AIDS. Your reaction, asking why Sophia was afraid to use the same toilet or mug, shows that we have come a pretty long way and that people are more aware and knowledgeable of it.
This tends to get compared to the Designing Women episode "Killing All the Right People," where the women help plan a funeral for an AIDS patient. While I think both are good, the DW episode comes off as a little preachy at times with all four women on the show magically not having any prejudice towards the character and with their being a standard homophobic character who gets told off by Dixie Carter. By contrast 72 Hours does a great job at being introspective and allowing for Sophia and Rose to confront/overcome their own prejudices, while also having Blanche of all people turn out to be the most empathetic (not only because of her own experience but also due to her having a brother who identifies as gay). Great example of show don't tell
Estelle Getty was very uncomfortable acting her part in this episode because it was the opposite of what she really was when it came to HIV. But of course she acted brilliantly like the three others.
I rarely comment even though I've been a long time subscriber. I honestly was waiting the entire time for you to react to this episode. CW MENTIONS OF SEXUAL ASSAULT I personally went through what Rose went through after an assault. It took me a couple of years before realising that it happened to me and I rushed to get tested. This episode always made me cry especially since the time waiting felt like forever. The part with Dorothy and Rose will always be my favourite. I'm now an AIDs activist and there's still so much stigma surrounding HIV/AIDs even though we have enough education online and we even have preventative drugs that helps us against the virus. Thank you for reacting to this episode. Love everything you do!
you may not know this. the only thing that saved James Doohan on D-Day in 1944 was that was he was a smoker. He was shot on Juno beach 6 times. one of which would have hit has heart. a lighter saved his life. It was friendly fire.
@bob1967-p6r 48 minutes ago @jeffhampton2767 well that is good to know.am still trying to figure this out. I never commented on you tube videos before about a month ago. I recently commented on a very nice Canadien lady who reacts to star trek. I told her That I jumped from windows xp to whatever I have now. I don't replace things until they break. i still haven't replaced my old school tv it is not hdtv. i actually got this because I made the mistake of telling my sister I still had xp. She laughed and bought me a computer for last Christmas. Never had cable just got broke down and got a cellphone.
I think it’s totally reasonable to be hesitant, considering your clear love for the OG’s. Idina & Kristin are magical together. The Wicked Movie RU-vid channel has “Passion Project,” “Building the World,” and “Powerful Bond of Friendship” featurettes that are pretty great, even just for you to watch on your own. Love your channel!
I hear ya! I'm nervous as well, I love the whimsical dark atmosphere of the stage show, and the movie looks so bright and realistic...lol. I do want to see it on a big screen with big sound!
You are right that Helen of Troy is one of the influences mixed into this story, but the main model would be Shakespeare's Antony and Cleopatra. In that story, Marc Antony is so entranced by Cleopatra that he fails to defend them both from Octavius, who would overcome them and become Augustus Caesar.
Excellent! Taking this into consideration, you might say that "Elaan" combined two Shakespeare plays into one; "Antony and Cleopatra" and "The Taming of the Shrew."

I love the part where Sophia and Dorothy walk into the living room dressed as Sonny Bono and Cher 😂😂😂 especially the look on Rose's face when she saw Dorothy dressed as Cher 😂😂😂 that was hilarious 😂😂😂
