The Standard-Speaker, located in Hazleton, Pa., became a member of The Times-Shamrock newspaper group in the spring of 2007. The family-owned paper traces its history to 1866 and the Hazleton Sentinel. That newspaper later became the Standard-Sentinel and then merged with the Plain Speaker to become the Standard-Speaker.
The seven-day daily serves readers in southern Luzerne County and parts of Schuylkill and Carbon counties. The addition of the Standard-Speaker along with The Citizens’ Voice, gives Times-Shamrock the largest daily circulation reach in Luzerne County.
