The opponent had a size 2 enclosure (not touching water) and took the Africa partner zoo. Based on that I was fairly confident they had the Macaque and would try to pilfer me. Playing only the Porcupine meant I stayed under 5 appeal and couldn't be pilfered. They played it the very next move for nothing!
The problem is if I spend the x-token then I lose the race to Habitats 5. My Assoc is stuck on 4 while they have Vet + 3 x-tokens and can grab Aus Partner Zoo into Habitats 5. There's no scenario where I can steal both from them, although it would have been cool if I had an extra x-token to spend.
I totally agree about the first sentence, I'm trying this game on bga and I always end last. The others draw good cards from random while I end with 5 resources of 3 kinds when I need to complete the last stage with 4 differents!!! And the following player ends the game. How can I be so cursed?? Hope to find any useful info here.
I'm sure both lines would have done pretty well, I debated it for a while. Pets still seems very mediocre in 2P games. Especially missing out on the first Tharsis City with it.
Very interesting TfM game. Not sure if all the science was needed, that was a ton of money spent for a Scientist steal that wasn't even guaranteed, plus it prolonged the game by at least one generation. I feel like you would beat JD by a much wider margin if you just gave him the award and committed to a full rush, but I would need to rewatch it as I didn't catch the whole game. Also, I like having ad-hoc Emu Cup casts 👀. Good game by Darcelmaw and dwarvintime also didn't do nearly as badly as I initially thought. Very stupid and unnecessary shittalking in post-game chat by me at the end, though - I talked to dwarvin about it after the match, and unsurprisingly, he seemed most offended by the inaccuracy of my criticism about his gameplay. After looking closer at some turns: Fair enough!
Great replays. Pretty crazy chat activity for 2nd game, with both players, panda, dwarvin and BDW chiming in. Love Emu cup, even though I'm not quite sure what it is. Wish someone would take the time to explain.

I am the player who made the 21 turn game. I don’t think I made any big mistake in this game. Except the last break(I gave up then). But good job to BDW.
Getting the enclosure back was much more important than potentially 1 end game shield. It shouldn't have mattered either way if I had played Foreign Institute instead of Guided School Tours.
It depends on how early you can get it. If it's early enough and you roll it once or twice then yes it can be game-winning. There's a bit more risk attached to it than other cards because it's essentially a useless card in the last 3-4 rounds (unlike a card that gives rockets which you are always happy to roll).
It would be cool if BGA released stats on # of 22/23 turn games, how many have been played and best average ELO, could indicate 'best game' ever played or something like that.
There must be faster games. The 3rd game where I lost in 22 turns could easily have been 19/20 turns if I breaked more often, didn't block predators 4 and opponent hadn't wasted some turns at the end like building for 8 points which wasn't necessary. I does seem like some of the strongest stuff you can get going, hunting, polar bear and aquarium at commercial harbor with an opponent that helps out a bit for bears.
@@Foodayzz you always have one turn on your turn. Everything extra is extra actions but still 1 turn, ie X2 tokens, determination, extra action from sun bear etc.
What’s the current meta for upgrading actions (I used to upgrade association very quickly always but came to the realization that 10 money for a donation is quite expensive

Thank you for the video. I've been playing several games with my wife. She was usually just buying cards that give VP for rolls on low numbers and I was trying more sophisticated strategies, like getting big money engine and buying only colony cards, in one game I was able to trigger 20 coins card twice with some funky manipulations and I was very close (34 or 35) but she still won. I didn't buy any of the VP for rolls cards though I felt that they are strong (and that's what you said in the "advanced" video), because I though that it's a no-brainer strat and wasn't really interested in doing it, so now I feel that in a 2 player game these cards are a must, this way I will deny her of cards that she wants and provide myself with points for rolls at the same time trying adding sprinkles of other strategies. I don't know how I feel about it, in rftg (favored of ours) you can have totally different strategies that have nothing in common with your previous plays and we love it. Here it seems like you still have to buy points-for-rolls cards every game. Maybe adding dummy rolls between players will increase strengths of just colony ships or "you win" card strategies. Probably it's different with more players where everyone is pulling these points-for-rolls cards and it dilutes this strat making other paths more viable.
Greed, mostly. Federal Grants is a great card for both of us. Snapping the Agama feels a bit weak even if it does give me 2 projects to do. I put myself in a pretty bad position not doing any early projects so I probably should have just sucked it up and done Africa + Reptile Breeding
@@jasonexperience8970 With the power of hindsight for this particular game, yes. You can't judge the accuracy of moves when there is hidden information, so it's not something I ever think about.
I counted, I think the for sale streak is actually 14 (13 before today's game) You deserved better than 4th today. Next time, for sale gods will be on your side
