From 2019, all master's and PhD students were moved to i harbor campus where there are single rooms in each appartment and not possible to live with family there. You need to get the appartment in the main city. There is not much around the new campus where you can live. And due to security concerns the nearest town and the university itself will not allow to rent there. apartment there

You can pay your rent and insurance from your 2500 scholarship but affording a family as such in your home country or in xian? 2500 is not that much as you have to buy food from cafeteria most of the time as cooking is not allowed and also no residence outside university in i harbor campus. University has seperate halal cafeteria for foreigners and muslim students. but the food will be chinese or fast food. You can also order some curry or rice.
