Dunkirk, 28 may 1940. Lord Gort, head of the BEF, decides to withdraw to Dunkirk. French General Weygand agrees to cover up the British retreat. On May 29, the Germans attack Dunkirk. 30,000 French soldiers and 6,000 British soldiers directly confront 160,000 German soldiers. The French lines of defense hold the shock. British General Alexander tells French generals that he cannot engage his troops in battle. Admiral Abrial responds to Alexander: "We French are tied to an imperative mission which is to resist until death to save all possible personnel, French and English. As long as this goal has not been achieved we will fight..". General Fagalde reorganizes the defense system before the Germans take advantage of the vacuum left by the British troops. From May 28 to 31, the French defense prevented the Germans from advancing towards Dunkirk. In his war memoirs Churchill wrote: *"Molinié's epic resistance permitted to evacuate 100,000 more men."* May 30: The fighting is in Dunkirk. General Von Küchler commanding the 18th Wehrmacht Army wrote: “Despite our overwhelming numerical and material superiority, the French counter-attack in several places. I cannot understand how these French soldiers, sometimes fighting 1 against 20, find the strength to counter-attack. It’s amazing .. We’re not breaking through anywhere and our losses are terrifying.” Thanks to this French resistance, the evacuation continued. On June 2 the last British soldiers were evacuated. Churchill and Ramsay estimated that a maximum of 40,000 British troops could be evacuated. In the end, 200,000 Britons will be saved. General Heinz Guderian: “Dunkirk is a disaster for the German army." General Von Küchler wrote: "Dunkirk is a defeat. The entire British Expeditionary Force escaped us because of a few thousand French soldiers who blocked us. Dunkirk proves to me that the French soldier is one of the best in the world."
MEIN GOTT, WHAT A COLLECTION! DID YOU MAKE THE BUNKER YOURSELF? GOT ANY PLANS OM HOW TO MAKE ONE? LOVED THE TIGERS AND IS THAT A JAGDPANTHER? KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!

i really love how its on the western front yet the germans are using "captured" soviet guns. also the americans dual wielding hand guns and running up to the germans, saying freeze, and not dying its just great. this isnt teaching anything but lies to the spectators.
My grandfather served in the 324th Infantry Regiment as a nineteen year-old rifleman. He saw combat from the division's entry into battle in October through December 1944. The green 44th Division fought a desperate enemy on the very unfavorable terrain of the Vosges Mountains, but ultimately prevailed. I am forever grateful for my grandfather's service as well as the men of his unit. Thank you for keeping their memory alive.
We were on the terrain were the 44th had to endure the harsh battle's. Incredible effort of these men to fight the German, many respect for those heroes like your grandfather
Went today (9th June 2024). Very interesting museum and nice to see items in their original setting. The shop sells a lot of high quality clothing and the cafe also very good.
My dad, PFC Clifford S. Robertson, 194th Glider Infantry, was wounded and briefly captured on the glider assault. Everybody called him "Chief" because he was a full blood Santee Sioux.
Any more information on this group? I’d love to come out for an event. My grandfather served in K Co. 324th IN. I have their regimental highlights book and his war diary
How far is this memorial from Utah Beach? If you're on a tour that covers Utah Beach, will you see this monument? I am planning a trip to Normany, and this is one thing I want to see. Thanks
