Established in 1872, Hardy is one of the world's most famous fishing tackle maunfacturers and has consistently been at the forefront of fishing tackle innovation.
Developing rod technology has always been Hardy business, pioneering split cane rods in the 19th century, fibreglass and carbon fibre in the 2oth century, and for the 21st century, Hardy has developed SINTRIX Silica Nano Matrix technology.
If you do get one of these I'd advise you to get an extra spool or two now. I bought the similar Ultralight ASR 7000 a few years ago and two of the three plastic cassette spools need to be tapped with a hammer to remove. I'd like to buy some replacement spools but they are no longer available.
I have a hardy swift 10ft #7 lovely rod also marquis 7 reel an a hardy viscount 8ft#5 with a marquis 5 reel. Both were left to me from my grandad when he sadly passed away an I’ve had many of fish from still waters best of the best every time I use the rods I think of me grandad so will be with me forever now

It's that "very very really really" man from Hardy again!! I bought one of these (the 5000 4/5/6 size) last year, and I'm very satisfied. I can confirm it weighs a mere 70g (97g with 40yds backing, 5wt fly line and leader). Until then I was using a Sage Click #4/5/6 reel which is 18g heavier. The Hardy has a superior clicker (metal, not plastic) but both are lovely modern ultralight reels. The Wychwood River & Stream #4/5 is even lighter, but has a much smaller arbour and lacks a full frame. The weight matters to me because I'm a backpacker, but it's been great to discover how much more fun it is to fish for small(ish) wild trout with a dragless reel.
Was this the design philosophy that drove the creation of the UCL series fly wheels; an ultra light, forged, aluminum spool that provided the strength and feedback necessary while maintaining the lowest pack weight possible?
I have 3 of them, 8000's for my 8 & 9wts. I need 1 more these are the best saltwater reels ive owned. better than my nautilus nv 9/10. same size but much lighter and slightly thinner.
Hi Howard , I’ve started fishing for sea trout using euro nymphing techniques , would the 10ft 8 3 weight be more capable of casting slightly larger beaded flies than the 02 weight , I use straight through mono leaders . Thanks
I bought this summer the 9.9 # 3 , I've been really amazed about the performances of this rod , on nymph and dry fly fishing , I think that when fly rods are designed and tested by someone that can put all his awesome background on this, the results just outperform all the mumbo jumbo more expensive top class fly rods , promoted often only trough emotional fishing day scenario advertisements . By the way I must to spend some words on how some of them are featured with pathetic hardweare ,tubes and socks ,absolutely worthless the price you're payng. Hardy on this side is a queen .
The Hardy LL 9’2 #3&4 are amazing dry fly rods and cast themselves. The 9’9 #4 is an absolute beast (I think it fishes much like a 5 weight) and can cast very long for dry droppers, etc. The 10’2 #2 and 10’8 #0/2 both are like a #3 to me, rival the T&T Contact II easily and have some additional features that really come into play, especially the top two snake guides which really reduce tangles. The finish is also less sticky in wet conditions. Perhaps the perfect rods if you are into this niche..
Just bought the 10’8” 0/2 and love how it fishes!!!! It will load with the lightest of bead heads. Love the flexy tip and it has backbone for days to fight the biggest trout. It’s becoming my favorite nymphing tool and I fish the Sage esn hd, T&T contact 2, Diamondback nymph and a Moonshine epiphany. Thanks for the video!!!!!

Interesting! How would you rank the rods you just mentioned? Also wondering where are you located? I'd be up to meet so I could bring my 2 master nymph rods and Maxia rod. I can't find any dealer carrying the hardy. And I have yet to make up my mind about the black diamond... I am hoping to test the Hardy when I go to Europe in January.
Love the reel and Hardy products, but buyer beware if you plan to use a mono rig. Slips through all the time. I was a little disappointed in that, especially since it’s being advertised as being designed to prevent that problem. This is not a closed cage. Perhaps it works better with euro fly line.
Your bamboo rods are true "rolls royce" of fly fishing. Thank you for this video which demonstrates that these craftsmen are real artists. I have a carbon fiber rod from the prestigious Hardy brand and I am very proud of it. 👍👍👍👍👍👍❤❤
I've been trying to register my Hardy gear for the last week. An Ultralight LL fly rod and this reel. But the Hardy registration page only says "page not found." I've been told in a popular fishing forum it's been like this since March! Hardy asks us to register our new purchase within 60 days. How exactly are we supposed to do that, Hardy, if the registration page has been down for the past 6 months? Forget about contacting them through email or phone They don't answer. This is the worst after sales experience I've ever had on a high end rod and reel, by far. I debated going with a Thomas & Thomas for the euro nymph rod, I should've gone with them. Heard their CS is excellent.

I bought this reel Jan 17th.... used it for the first time Today.. it broke instantly. Its claim to be designed not to allow shooting line to slip through is true but tippet sure does slip and always finds its way into the drag area! If you keep leader and tippet on your fly line, spool it up and store the reel in the case it's Dangerous!. The tippet always finds its way between the drag and the reel frame. I was unlucky enough to be using a tippet ring on my leader which sadly got caught in this area and is now stuck in-between the drag and the frame.. You can not access this area of the reel to remove it. This happened on my first time out, There is a serious problem with the design of this reel.
Sorry to hear about this unfortunate break Peter. Please head over to our website, and review the information and instructions on our warranty page. If you believe your issue qualifies under the terms of our warranty program, please follow the instructions provided to file a warranty claim with us. Once your claim has been reviewed, a member of our team will be in contact with you to discuss options with you.
@@hardyfishing I have not gotten around to sending it in but I will soon. You tell me does this qualify warranty? Having a tippet ring stuck between the drag and the reel frame. The gap is too wide, and the fact that this literally happened as soon as I got the reel shows that there is a design problem.
You should remove the mono tippet after each use. Not because of the reel, but fresh mono prevent your tippet to snap. Same for trout, salmon and other species....
I know an older video this . But Howard , can you tell me why Hardy have stopped doing a clothing range mate ? I had the EWS MK1 wading jacket , and the newer soft shell , windstopper fleece , waistcoat and micro fleeces and all were brilliant . I only three the soft shell jacket out two months ago , after owning and wearing for years . It would be great to see them back . Thank you 😊
@@kingfisherphil HBX rod range are all made in Alnwick, England along with a lot of the classic reels and the bags and reel cases are also made in the UK. Not sure on these new Zane rods but I think possibly Korea? but the quality is great regardless, I have a Sirrus glass and that was made in China but it is great rod and excellent build quality. If you are going to turn something down if it is not made in the west then good luck buying most things! Unfortunately like a lot of companies Hardy went from a family business to part of a multinational, that means that profit is king not heritage. But at least they kept the Alnwick factory going and it still makes the top end stuff, the customers service is great to. Someone managed to snap a spinning rod of mine and this was replaced with a new rod for the price of a section as they no longer made the model I broke.
*I finally broke down and got a new fly reel as my old one broke a couple of years ago and I've been fishing without a drag>>>**allabout.wiki/fhii** I really like the new real, it is solid built, and works as advertised. I liked the affordability and the quality is good. Overall I'd recommend this product*
*I recently used my new Piscifun Sword Fly Fishing Reel fly fishing in Alaska>>>**allabout.wiki/ahc2** I was pleased with the drag and construction of the reel. It was a pleasure to fish with it.*
