Hi! I'm a sewist, alternative fashion lover, and Black girl who enjoys making things and dressing up! While I made this channel mostly to document my sewing journey and quest for my dream wardrobe, I'd also love to inspire and motivate others to do the things they want to do and have fun while doing it!

do you have any recommendations for simple lolita-ish dress tutorials for beginners? i want to try since i can sew skirts but never tried full on dresses and i dont want to accidentally choose something too difficult lol

I’ve made your Lolita tiered skirt and I’ve made it twice ❤ I’m making a third one at the moment. I want to make this but I bought the wrong elastic for shirring. It did not move in the bobbin so I need thinner elastic than what I thought. But I *love* 💕 and *appreciate* 😊 your tutorials and videos and the fact you shared the otome book which I was to print when I get more printer paper 📄 🎊

Thank you so much for making this video! I had actually watched it a while ago, but I recently have been considering buying that ONS book for this pattern, but I was frustrated that I couldn’t find pictures of the back of the dress or more details about it. I’m so happy to have come across this video again to watch the process of making it, and get an idea of if it’s something I could manage (and if it could perhaps be graded up to be more plus-size friendly 😅). If I end up going for it, I will definitely be using this video as a reference to help me through it. Genuinely, cannot thank you enough! 🙏😭✨🩷

Hey, I’m confused. So is the fabric supposed to be 60” and 60” so like 120 in total or 30 and 30, 60 in total?

I'm a plus size lolita who loves bittersweet but it's incredibly difficult to find in my size. I went to a lolita swap meet and ended up meeting someone who had bought two ap skirts and combined them to fit her, dreamy doll room, she did an amazing job and it fit me perfectly However I don't enjoy wearing skirts so I'm planning to make the bodice of a jsk and attach the skirt to it. I'm very excited

I thought this was a really good tutorial so I thought I’d try it out myself!! First thing is I cut the pieces to tier 3 and 1 to then realize I messed up and doing have enough fabric for tier 2. So now I get to drive to my grandmas house to pick some more fabric.Second thing is I forgot to add seam allowance on tier 1 and 3. I’m off to a great start!

@SewBlack

Hi! The pattern I used was from Otome No Sewing book 1. I don’t think the pattern itself has a name but it’s located on either the 2nd the 3rd page of the book, it was one of the main JSK patterns featured in the book.

Good luck 🍀👍🏾 I know it seems daunting at first but honestly it’s not as bad as you might think. Plus once you’ve done it you can wear your dress without the constant thought in the back of your head going ‘I really need to replace the elastic’ every time you look at it lol 😂

@Electrosa
@Electrosa 3 месяца назад
Oh man, as a matter of fact I DO have this exact problem! x') My Ghost Night Bride JSK's shirring panel is so loose and flops down on the top channel in the exact same way as yours did. Which is a shame, especially because it's full back shirring and such a gorgeous dress otherwise! Stashing this one away for later... thank you so much!

I am now reminded to go through my closet and clean things up too >.< Congrats on getting Sugar Bouquet in lavender! We must twin one of these days! Filoli looked like such a fun event and I'm so glad that you're sharing this event with us! I always called the combo between sweet and classic as "Swassic" (bonus points for how cool this word sounds) Thanks for sharing this vlog it was so enjoyable~! <3
@SewBlack
@SewBlack 4 месяца назад
You know for a while I was considering getting the version of sugar bouquet that you have, the one with the bustle in the back. But I could never deicide on a color I liked the most 😅 Lol Just say the word and we'll do it! I'm ready to twin whenever you are! 💜 Also I agree that 'swassic' definitely sounds the best! Will for sure be using that to describe future classic/sweet coords. Lol The whole time I was editing this all I could think is "How does Dodo do this every week??" LOL! I kept telling myself the whole time I was editing this video that 'if Dodo can do it, so can I! ' So thanks for being my motivation to finally edit and upload this vlog! 😊💜

oh my god i've been to filoli! a lolita meet sounds stunning there, my favorite is the pastel blue ballroom! the lolita scene at the bay area is SO GOOD. the lolita scene in sacramento is Getting There
@SewBlack
@SewBlack 4 месяца назад
It's seriously so beautiful there! I really want to try and go back on a day when it's not raining and there are more things are in bloom. Also the ballroom was the one place I didn't get to see! I was too caught up doing the scavenger hunt that I didn't spend too much time inside the house 😅 lol While I don't have much experience with comms in other areas, I can confirm that the Bay Area comm is pretty darn good 👍🏾 If you're ever in the Bay definitely try to attend a meetup if you're able to!

Thank you so much! I usually get all my lolita sewing books secondhand from JP Mercari or Frill. They typically go for super cheap and you can usually always find a few listings from people selling them. You can also occasionally find someone selling them on lace market too.
