I used to work in this signal box back in the 70's, it all seems like a dream nowadays but I remember that pub across the crossing quite an imposing building.

Great film. Such a shame that it’s now history as of February 2021.

What a really nice and thought provoking video. I was brought up in Station road in the 1970s and used to play in the old and mostly derelict buildings of the old station, which had in the very short period between its closure in 1966 and the mid 70s become known as the 'brickyard', due to the London brick company having used the land for their purposes. Sadly at the time of writing the last vestiges of the old station are due to be torn down by network rail, the signal box and the cast iron footbridge. I was to young to use the station in its glory days, but thanks to media like your video it can live on ....if only in memories. 🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂

My dad, Ronnie Redfearn, lived with my nana at number 2 Station House (next door to the Thorntons) back in the 60's. I use to have tea round at nanas' sometimes and enjoyed looking out of the bedroom window - straight onto the platform. Sad to see it's all gone now and that a lot of the people who carried the memories of those days have passed on.

i remember as a kid going up the flight of steps from the foot bridge to visit the signal box. Nice model of the station.Maybe Davis bridge was constructed to help with movement of heavy road traffic to the I.C.I. Billingham works? My grandfather was well known in old Billingham as one of the ammonia plant managers.

That’s not Davis Bridge being constructed. It’s the Beck Branch off Old Road.

Great to see Billingham Town Centre...I used to love Christmas shopping there as a kid. Wooly's Christmas cards were really cheap and suited my pocket money allowance!
