We are going to do a civil lawsuit on the rules committee. There’s over $20 million stolen from the consumer and the rules committee should’ve thought about this before they made their actions public. It’s like a recall on a car you can’t put out a car in 2022 worth a lot of money and then in 2024 have a recall of the car making it worthless. Without paying back the consumer.

Right from the start, the concept of any of these cards being rule zeroed out doesn't make sense. Look at the percentages of decks they are in and where they rank in most played cards. On top of that, WotC is not responsible for the bans, so it is not an attack on consumers.

I own a Jeweled Lotus and a Dockside Extortionist. I got them for my last birthday and wanted to use them primarily to make slower decks work in a casual kind of game, e. g. in high cmc decks like dragon typal. The loss of value is a bit annoying, but I think I'm okay with the bans. I mean I don't play in sanctioned tournaments (are there any for commander?) and you can still play the cards privately. Edit: I think it might be a good middle way to set a rule 0 that Dockside may not be used to combo off with cards like Deadeye Navigator or Chthonian Nightmare and that cards like Mana Crypt and Jeweled Lotus may only be used in decks with above average cmcs. That way a one-sided gameplay could be rendered less likely. I mean whenever I played Miirym, I would be killed before I could even bring my first dragon into play. I don't want to play unfairly, I just want to participate and develop my game.

I hope they ban MORE. No fastmana, no dual lands, no fetch. When you play 4/5 colors, must be a risk (or playing gate like a chad who like to lose to BM XD)

I would like to say that I don't know who said it. I think it was Joel who made the assumption that it was a half measure. In the statement literally say they're not trying to make explosive starts impossible. They're just trying to make it less consistent. When you make something less consistent, you don't hit everything in the category. You just hit some of it lower the probability of it happening.

Rudy of Alpha Investments said it best, WOTC approves everything. This was a calculated move. I also don't believe for a second that the RC just held onto cards they knew would be worthless. I'm calling bs. They ran through the bosses at WOTC. WOTC does not care about the "community" They are a corporation. I'll only be attending proxy friendly events moving forward and plan on selling a bulk of my collection.

Do you think that this will discourage more Jeweled Lotus-type cards from getting made in the future?
@t.yop9

Problem is boxes still cost $200-$400. They should be $25-$50. Then fine, ban everything, they're just game pieces. You can't just pull the rug from people and then still expect them to pay premium prices for card board game pieces. And I say this as someone who is against the reserve list, against high priced investing, and fully believe MTG is a game first. Wizards can't expect us to ignore old cards, buy endless new cards, then still charge $400 just to pull a card that will be relevant for about a year.

Wizards could overpower the RC easily. First, many kitchen table players don't even know the RC exists, so that would be irrelevant. The sledgehammer Wizards has is WPN control over game stores. They could directly link product and/or prize support to stores showing that they are having "official" commander environments in their stores. Stores could say no, but then they would be disadvantaged.
@Dstinct
@Dstinct 7 часов назад
If current players stopped buying cards, it would not kill the game. It could kill a lot of LGS that now survive on commander because a lot of 60 card formats are dead. New blood and kitchen table players will still buy their Magic at Target and Walmart. Many of them don't set foot in a game store. Hell, they may not even know about the bans because they just play their stock precons.

Type 1 was vintage, type 2 was standard. After a while Legacy forked from Vintage to bring the power down, and Extended was formed as a bridge between Standard and Vintage/Legacy. Eventually they phased out Extended and created Modern.

The lack of communication with the advisors was problematic for two reasons. First it shows that they made their own assumptions for the format without consultation. Their stated reason for doing it was financial. They were worried that telling them could lead to people dumping cards for profit. That means they have a lack of trust in their advisors, and that is offensive to them.

WOTC allowed the value of their product to implode because now they've shown that they don't care about the value of the cards. This is a CCG, if you kill the value of the cards, then there is no sane reason to buy product at super inflated prices for cardboard. Proxies are much cheaper and frankly much better quality most of the time. Why on earth would I pay money to WOTC now that I know they don't care at all about the value of cards? Good luck surviving on casual players pocket change now. Poor players may hate the "whales", but Magic relies on making money and WOTC just kicked the most valuable players in the nuts.

The solution to this problem is easy and doesn't require a ban. Define what makes a deck a 10, 9, 8, etc. 10 Everything is playable except Power. f you play (XXXX) cards your deck is a 9, If you play (xxx) cards your deck is an 8. No bans needed.

Unfortunately it seems like this will slowly dhut out CEDH players because no one in the RC or Casual community can rule 0 properly to avoid seeing these cards in play. There needs to be a seperate ban list and RC for CEDH players and TEDH players

I am upset because wizards clearly made rules committee wait for them to get one last reprint in to push Ixilan and commander masters. Now it makes sense why there was such a high value reprint in a standard set. They knew they were going to ban it soon and wanted to cash. Scum.

I went to every prerelease this year, and my lgs is fairly big and reputable. Well liked in the area. I saw more and more people start olaying magic as the year went buy. Alot of people got into magic in bloomburrow and assassins creed. I think because of all these new people, the RC wants to focus more on casual commander. As to not scare away or discourage the new players. I think these cards will be unbanned in the future.

My only experience with these cards was 1 v 1 Commander games against a person that kept starting the game with them, and with me losing because of them. As such, I'm happy. (They also had the Mox cards too, so I always would be way behind in the early game. So I would always be fuming when they pull off some early game BS because they had the ramp.)

Explosive starts are fine if people just bothered to slot more removal or interaction instead of 8p% of the time ignoring it and expecting other players to deal with there problem pieces. Expecting the other 2/3 players in a 4 person pod to deal with rystic etc..then complaining you lost to it because you didn't bother to put enough responsibility on yourself to deal with things is not othere people's problems.

Ask yourself this: If they released Commander Masters 2 in the near future, containing reprints of Thassa's Oracle, Mana Vault, Rhystic Study, Chrome Mox, and Mox Opal, would you consider buying it? If the answer is no, then Wizards has a serious problem on their hands. People aren't stupid, and if you spit in their face and take them for a fool, they aren't gonna be keen on buying your product in the future. This decision will ripple through game stores and go down as a true business blunder if Wizards doesn't do something to restore consumer confidence. The banlist is a marketing tool, after all, and if it hurts the most passionate players of your game, things aren't gonna end well.

It's kind of insane how much hate people are getting for being upset that their expensive staples became near worthless overnight. You know most of the people who got burned by this aren't mtg investors but people who owned a couple copies of expensive staples they enjoyed playing with. You are allowed to be upset that a committee of unaccountable people tanked the price of three of the biggest chase cards in the format with no prior warning after sitting on their hands for a decade.

From the game aspect, theese bans probably make sense. But magic always has been about the gathering. And they completely forgot about it. Collecting Magic The Gathering expensive cards now is a pretty bad decision.
