Remember we want lots of L.A and no D.A! Caroline fans will understand that. I remember this song well. When Caroline retuned to the seas in the early 70's, they played mostly album tracks. I then discovered ELO, Chicago and Genesis.
Mr. Anal here...'Crimson King' was 1969...thanks for including some more obscure samples which 'll now be off to check out especially Egg and Mahavishnu.
Well, we all have our opinions....the likes of Kansas, Asia, Starcastle etc, etc are easy listening Prog in my book...not that these bands are bad, they just don’t qualify, and wouldn’t even appear in my top 100. So, are King Crimson, Yes, National Health easy listening?....as I say, all opinions 🙂
It’s what’s behind the melody, not what’s expected. The use of a contrapuntal baseline and the modulation of the myxolydian and Phrygian😮 scales in the middle 8 adds texture and timbre to the experience. This version also highlights the band’s decorative use of upper and lower apogatoras, accented passing notes and syncopated phrase bars….cool!
