I understand the point for ground fault or rcd protection but surely having it at the point of use takes away lots of the safety as there are so many times when it protects someone due to a wiring fault whilst dodgy appliances tend to trip a breaker so it almost seems a bit pointless
Discovered this way of shaving in a public sauna where some old gyus were shaving outside the sauna. Bu t they had a rather small time window before the glide dride off and they had to go back in sauna before they could finnush the shave. Love shaving like this. Fells better for skin and my shavee is closer. Tried it with plastic BIC razor, DE-razors and a straight razor. Works well with all of them. But it made my straight razor rusty so ill avoud that one in the sauna. In winter, a few swim strokes with head underwater in the sea is a wonderfull after shave.
Hey Mark great video. Thank you for making it, and for all your time. I’d like to know how your floors and stones are holding up. I too am from Michigan and worry abt building on a cement slab and worry abt out freezing temps and so on… where in Michigan are you located? Your sauna is truly beautiful, good job!
Looks like I can build an Outdoor Sauna for about $3500. I don't plan on spending more than a few hours a week. I'm using more of Picnic table construction, 1.5" foam board insulation.. the real McCoy Home Depot Douglas Fir 2x4 on the inside, Smart Siding on the outside.. a real 9KW Hot rock special w/220V 50A GFCI breaker in the box, dedicated feeder w/ #6 AWG in conduit, and cut off switch within 10'. Next to it is the Chest Freezer Cold Plunge.. (+$1500).
Found some rotting dual pane windows on Craigs list.. picked out 4 with good seals. We'll see how they can take the temperature! Probably blow the seals out, but maybe not.. Great glass for $50. Easy to reframe in that georgeous red Douglas Fir..
Did you put motor between the wedged wood pieces underneath the Durock, or did you just put the durock on top to the wedged pieces leaving gaps? Thanks!
I just bought one of these stock tanks and used it for the first time last night. I went three minutes and I felt great. I now need to make a cover for it.
I can’t tell in the picture but are the handles the stainless color and not brass? I asked if I could get those changes out and was told the legacy will always have the old brass color. I like the new rock rack too
I've seen some people online insulating the floor joists and essentially sealing off the floors (maybe have a drain installed). Ive seen others have their deck boards installed with slits in between for air/drainage underneath the sauna. Curious what your recommendation is?
I'm building my sauna now from your plans Glenn. Pete, I loved your sauna. I then went off and made a bunch of decisions, and it's funny how many of Pete's elements made it into my design. Great work to you both.
Hey Glen. Getting ready to start my first mobile build. Curious what did you do for a base? I see the rubber floor mats. What's under the stove and how did you secure it?
Mark, nice job and looks great. Question on the stone! Are the stone natural? If no, can I have update on the stone. Hot, cold, moister... Is it coming off, any problems since you build last year?
One valve is not enough. One under the bench, the other a little above the stove and one under the door. Everything is kept open when we are in the sauna. This way, you get enough fresh air and oxygen into the sauna and sauna becomes refreshing. Greetings from Finland!
Hello sir! I love your traditional sauna build tips, and thank you. One thing I have never been able to find is the best way to make floor drainage for an outdoor, wet sauna - and ground/foundation water drainage. I live in a northern Canadian climate and need to know the best way to control water drainage without anything freezing up between usage. Im considering either making a proper concrete sloped floor with centre drain, or just an open floor with 1/4 inch gaps between boards… sort of old sweat lodge style. My thinking for the ground underneath is burying a plastic barrel underneath the drains, filled with crushed rock with holes drilled all over. Maybe with geo- cloth wrapped around everything to keep sand n silt out. Otherwise the water is just dumping onto open ground underneath the foundation? Nobody ever addresses this in any build video… very strange.
right on and very much.. please type "horse trailer" on SaunaTimes, and you'll get closer to the promise land. Further, my book has a section on building mobile, and that's available on the website as well.
Appears you are only talking about the 110v connections, not the required 220v for the heater. Or if the heater is only 110v, it sucks. Also, you should have a dedicated 30amp breaker dedicated to the sauna heater.
I solo sauna almost everyday. I built my own in my basement. Looking forward to building my mobile sauna so I can have a sauna when I’m on the lake too
excited about the book my first "sauna brain" experience I think was as young girl in the pheonix arizona desert parking lot getting buckled in a 120 degree car after being in a cold air conditioned store. i felt like my chest was sinking inward and so relaxed loved the feel for the few moments before we drove away. i must have been about 8... later I got to Onsen in Japan as a young woman. thanks for the interview to you both!
