Don’t just sit in his guard. Nothing good for you will ever happen there. Break his grips and start working some passes. Grabbing at his collar just makes you more susceptible to attacks.

I'm not the best at passing guard either but I'm starting to figure out the knee in asscrack trick works wonders

Use Stand Up guard Pass,its the best in the Gi. Pin one arm to the chest, with Ur other Hand Grab both His lapels. Stand Up First on the Side where u pinned His arm. Now Stand Up the other Leg so U end Up in a wide Stance. Switch the Grip of His arm to Ur other Hand and straighten urself Out so that U stand Up Like a tree and watch him hang on for His Life lol. A light Push down on his knee and Ur free. Dont give Up the sleeve Grip and U can easily Transfer right Into a knee Cut. Hope U understand my gibberish :D

Brought the gi around the neck, secured it with the left hand (USUALLY, couldn't tell because of the angle) reach across and grab the gi with the right hand (I usually grab the little piece of bunched up material on the top of the shoulder blade) and it's a cross choke on the neck, pretty good technique for a white belt I gotta say.

Moments of contentment with a life time of struggle. Agreed. Don’t try to pretend the once you get this or achieve that that you’ll then be able to enjoy life! You have the ability to enjoy your life right now. Enjoy it while you live it but you enjoy it through your ability to struggle and sacrifice through. If you feed your desires for immediate gratification, your life will be miserable! The world collapses around you and you loose control. Better that You have within you the ability to live purposefully and righteously and struggle on!

I'm just curious Mark, where is the boundary? At some point you have to say, "that is not acceptable what you did right there?"
@markusher3792
@markusher3792 5 лет назад
Great question Paul. Where I personally am questioning myself is on where exactly the "you have to say "that is not acceptable what you did right there" comes from, and do I have a critically appraised reason for saying it each time I say it. In my personal experience as a parent it appears most sanctioning of my kids behaviours comes from a concern of what others might think of me/Matilde as parents. I'm observing kids being inundated with sanctions on their behaviour, most of which are simply natural impulses appropriate to the age and energetic needs of the child in the moment. Witness "kids" in other species in their infancy and they get free reign to develop their whole capacities in relatively unbridled play and vocal expression. My personal guiding philosophy is this: If anybody's physical safety is in doubt -then immediate mindful intervention is required. In all other cases a lean in to allowing free reign with mindful observation as a parent. When incidences arise like the one detailed in the video, we try to have an open conversation with the girls to see what their perspective is. We keep it playful, open and engaging from both sides to see what emerges from within both parents and kids alike. We are finding two powerful results to this approach: 1 We are becoming more conscious of our kids views on life and their needs to self express within a safe judgement free environment without shaming. 2: Marvelling at the natural inner compass they are developing by autonomous social learning. Almost paradoxically, the more freedom of expression we have allowed them to experience, the more socially appropriate they are behaving. The basis of this approach is on the psychological fact that we resist conforming to externally imposed demands, both adults and children. The physical/psychological perceived dominance of a parent will naturally win, but if intrinsic emotional learning and acceptance of the so-called rule doesn't happen two patterns can easily emerge: 1 The non-conforming child will need continually external commands (often with increasing frequency/intensity AKA bold child) and travels a difficult social path of progressive non-acceptance leading to negative self-esteem and all it's inherent downsides. 2 The conforming child who learns social acceptance is gained through default submission to external authorities without critical thinking, gains a superficially easier social journey but wakes up in their twenties/thirties wondering why the hell they are living the life they are living(they learned early on to switch off their connection to their natural emotional impulses to be wild and daring that would have served them in making conscious Big Life decisions when they really began to count. I don't profess to know that what I have expressed above is right for everyone. It is based on observation, trial and much error, with some psychological research findings sprinkled on top. Thanks for the engagement Paul as always. Without your question the answer might never have arose. Have a super day, Mark

@@markusher3792 thanks for the detailed and well thought out reply Mark. I like your statement " If anybody's physical safety is in doubt -then immediate mindful intervention is required." That in itself raises another question of fact or personal opinion. Safety can be an interpretation based on individual experience, everyone has a different line to be crossed. Other factors such as severity of consequence; immediate threat to life or chronic illness need to be weighed.

Thanks for that Paul. Yes it has negatively impacted the connection between Matilde and I since we upgraded to having smart phones 4 months ago. We just copped last night in conversation that the culprit is unconscious use of our phones. Going to be hiding them from sight ourselves going forward!
