this is posted as installing a 256GB M2 SSD on this laptop. I have read that this unit will only support up to a 128gb M2 ssd. The video user installs a 128gb not a 256gb as this post says?
Hey man, quick question if you mind. I have a zbook 15u g2, which looks exactly the same , but is made for 2260. Now I have a 2242, but am wondering how to put it in. Somehow there seem to be no screws in the holes where it should be. Can I just add a stainless steel screw in there somehow, or do I need to be carefull concerning heating or something else? In fact, on my computer, the place for the 2242 looks exactly like yours on the place where a 2260 would fit in, so much lower to the motherboard... Hoping to hear frim you and keep it up! A
Hey, in this case, you should the install the SSD which fits perfectly and for the screw part, pull up the screw from the motherboard, the one which doesn't make any difference if removed. Another suggestion would be getting an external panel for ssd, which allows it to be fit in place of hard drive/ another size ssd. You have look for that particular size panel and you will be able to use it.
Boa tarde eu sou moçambicano tenho um PC idêntico preciso de uma memória SSD, como podemos fazer ou onde posso comprar, obrigado pela atenção dispensada
Quick question, thx...installed an Integral ssd m.2 242 512gb on my Hp EB 840 G1 and does not recognize it in BIOS and of course in Windows, maybe a wee bit of help please? Thx
Hi, try checking it using 'diskpart' command in cmd, there we can know whether it is available or not and if there it lists then you just need to boot the OS in it or if u wanna use as partition then check it in 'Disk Partition'.
I have the SAME laptop and I want to only keep the M.2 Drive and remove the 2.5" SSD drive for another project. Would I have to reinstall the OS on the new M.2 Drive?
@@adityabansal6541 Thanks for your directions. The NVME card I am considering is Gen 3, but this HP Notebook is only supports Gen 2 speeds. Where can I find out the Read/Write speeds of Gen2 NVME card to compare it to running with the 2.5" SSD.
You could easily find this on Google. Just search how fast is nvme m.2 compared to 2.5 inch sata SSD. According to me nvme m.2 is 5-6 times faster than 2.5 inch.
@@adityabansal6541 Thank you. I managed to find the spec after installing the HP Support Assistant. It appears G2 version of this laptop can only support NVME disks of up to 256G and nothing bigger.
You need a m.2 2242 SSD, which is SATA. Maximum size I found was 256Gb. Don't mind the 2 gaps and seeing only 1 gap on the computer slot. When M.2 SSD is recognised, but not in Windows, you must change some settings in BIOS. Disable msata and Raid, => computer won't boot. Back to BIOS and enable msata and raid. That did the trick for me, the drive was visible in disk management.
Yes it will show in the boot options initially as per my knowledge, i guess you have to make it a partition to access in file manager or to access from boot options install a operating system.
@@adityabansal6541need help, what is the size of the screw that is used in locking the SSD? My laptop apparently has no screw installed and i want to purchase it so that i can install the SSD
Hey, it seems compatible but you have to try it once as I have used only OSCOO M.2 SSD as shown in video and it is running quite well for the last 1.5 years and 0 problems. Rest it is up to you whichever you want you can use.
Hi can I use Samsung SSD PM991 M.2 2242 42mm PCIe 3.0 x4 NVMe MZALQ256HAJD MZ-ALQ2560 Solid State Drive On Hp Elitebook 840 G2 core i7 5600U 2.6 GHz And which capacity it will fit 512 GB or 256 GB ??
can we make this as c drive for windows. i mean are there any speed issue or anything, and also i want to know the read and rigght speed. can u plz help me out
Yes you can make it, do boot it as you turn on the laptop, choose M.2 and it will be your c drive. Speed is much better like laptop turns on from switch off mode in about 5 sec. I tried using it with only 4 GB of ram, it is gave me quite good performance with multiple windows.
Hi, I am sharing the link of the one which I ordered on Amazon OSCOO 128GB m.2 2242 Solid State Disk High Speed SATA3 for Hp 840 G1 G2, 9480M, Lenovo X240,X250, T440, T450, T450s, T440s www.amazon.in/dp/B08Q7JQBRT/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_XGQRP6Y5C8F8E6V6M28T
I have tried 2 2242 B key ssd. None of them is working. I can see them in boot menu and if I boot from SATA, but when I try to install OS on them or just write to them, there is an Error. I updated the bios, no help.
Hi, I am using HP EliteBook 840 G1 Base Model Notebook PC ,I want to install 128 GB SSD in it.My port type is NVME M.2 . My existing RAM is 8 GB.How much more RAM I can add with it and Can you suggest a compatible SSD for this model?
Hi, you don't need to add more ram as you are installing a SSD, it will itself boot the system faster. The one which I showed in the video is very much compatible with this model, OSCOO SSD whose price is also less than the others and it is reliable too
No other difference, just on the seller part. One is selling for 3510/- and other for 4199/-. You can go with the one who got better ratings and reliable price.
I bought it from Amazon. I am sharing 256Gb SSD link. You can buy the storage size according your need. Here's the link www.amazon.in/OSCOO-256GB-Solid-State-Speed/dp/B08Q86HBF9/ref=asc_df_B08Q86HBF9/?tag=googleshopdes-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=397082384864&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=7815255050606151881&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9298588&hvtargid=pla-1309601986512&psc=1&ext_vrnc=hi
You need to check if there is a M.2 SSD slot in there. If it is then go ahead but if it is not you can prefer a 2.5 inch SSD which also provides a good speed and reduced boot time.
@@adityabansal6541 there is m.2 slot for size 2242 but In hp guide it is mentioned upto 128gb ssd supported and also ssd supported upto 512GB for 2.5 that means I can’t upgrade to 1 TB Can you suggest please what will be good! I have 16 gb ram and 500 gb hdd
bro, i have the same laptop as this, is it possible to install 512 GB M.2 SSD here? While we are here, idk where else to ask this ques, but is is possible to attach a graphics card (ones for laptops, if there are any) on this laptop?
Yes, I think you can go with 512 Gb m.2 SSD, if not m.2, you can replace 2.5 inch slot drive with SSD. For graphic card there is no particular spot to replace one in the motherboard, I am not sure but you can try connecting graphic card from outside if money is not a problem.
For graphics card , you have to buy the converter which will be connected to the place of WIFI card, you gotta remove the wifi card. And after that you won't be able to use wifi directly you gotta buy a new wifi usb dongle.
NVME is 2280 and it will not be compatible with the length of SSD you can use in 840 G1, for G1 use 2242, If u have another model look for the SSD space in the hardware of your laptop and then buy..
I also had the same laptop HP EliteBook 840 G1. I am currently using 600GB HDD. In addition to this, I want to add simultaneously 256 Gb M2 SSD and add some RAM also. Is it feasible? Kindly reply..I mean to say is it ok to add and how it improves the speed of my laptop..thank you
