My great great great grandfather moved to Amsterdam, NY in 1852 after serving for 7 years in the French army under Napoleon III. He had 3 kids named Theodore, Charles & Albert. Charles & Theodore founded a massive 4 story knitting goods factory in Amsterdam, NY in 1886 known as Yund, Kennedy & Yund. Partly owned & founded with Thomas Kennedy. It was one of America’s most successful mills in operation at the time. At peak production they had over 3,800 spindles in operation & employed over 500 local men & women of Amsterdam. There was alot of successful mills & factories in the Amsterdam. So many in fact that guy park avenue used to be known as “millionaires row” due to the large amount of millionaires that lived on that road. My great great uncle Theodore Yund being one of them built a mansion at 124 guy park avenue that still stands there today. You actually drive by it at 1:00 on your right side with the 4 white pillars. It’s beautiful. I got to tour it a few years ago when it was for sale on the market. You can see a bunch of photos of it on the Zillow listing online still too. At one point in time there was more millionaires per capita in Amsterdam, NY than anywhere else in the world. That road you drove down used to be so balling! People were building massive homes & filling them with lavish decor & items. Guy Park Avenue was originally called Spring Street due to the natural spring that flows underneath it. Beautiful road & homes on it. We’ll mostly back in the day but still many there

Thank you for posting this! I never thought I would get to take this ride again. I worked at SPAC during the 1970s. Driving the Avenue of The Pines was such a beautiful treat every day. I moved to Los Angeles in 1981. I would often share stories of growing up in Saratoga and my years at SPAC. I've tried explaining just how majestic it was to enter the park from Route 9 and drive through all of the incredible trees. I don't think I ever found the appropriate words to do it justice. I've retired to Palm Springs now and have enjoyed a wonderful life in California. I often reminisce about my home town and days at the Arts Center. I'm so grateful to have gone along on this ride one more time!
I was just walking in my neighborhood and I saw this triangle on the floor and took a picture and the Google lens thingy said it was a shuffleboard, then I went to RU-vid and searched for "shuffleboard" and this came out. Thanks for the explanation
