We are best known for our translations of Carmelite classics: the works of Teresa of Avila, John of the Cross, Lawrence of the Resurrection, Thérèse of Lisieux, Elizabeth of the Trinity, and Edith Stein. Our editions of these works-all with ample notes and explanatory materials, and translated whenever possible from the critical texts-are widely hailed for their accuracy, readability, and affordability.
I LOVE St. Therese. A very holy nun suggested for me to read her, which I did but not right away. When I did, it changed my life. My religion was not so hard. Become as a little child, in trust and love, and basically that is the call. Little children do not majorly sin, and when they fall they are so close to the floor that they don't get hurt. I LOVE her!
Now I say this out of Love through Our Lord Jesus Christ. In regards to the Scapular and also to the Catholic Church, you are putting your Faith into Idols rather than in Jesus Christ and this is why you do not Know Him. Give your Whole Heart to Our Lord Jesus Christ for what He has done Completely for you on the Cross as a Blood Atonement for All Your Sins (All Sins Past and Future) to be Saved into Eternal Life; Yes you will Surely be Saved and cannot lose your Salvation when you Completely Trust Jesus Christ and this is How you are Changed. You are Changed by Him then with his Holy Spirit, not by You nor anyone else! Now you are Lost because you are so distracted by Idols and Worshiping Others and you , the Catholic Church, has corrupted the Gospel of Jesus Christ and so when God sees you upon your Death he will see you trying to Save Yourselves with Works and Rejecting Jesus Christ and so see you as Sinners because you Rejected what Jesus Christ has done for You! Now Turn to Jesus Christ Completely and Trust Alone in Him Completely for your Salvation and He will be with you Now and Forever and then you will Know Jesus Christ and Jesus Christ will Know You.
Thanks for your kindness, Zanthue. As Catholics, we also believe that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior and that His sacrifice on the Cross is the source of our salvation. Our entire faith is centered on Christ, and we trust completely in His grace for our redemption. The Catholic Church teaches that salvation is a free gift from God, and it is only through Christ’s atoning sacrifice that we are saved. However, Catholics also believe that faith is lived out in a personal relationship with Christ that bears fruit in how we live. In James 2:26, it says, ‘faith without works is dead,’ meaning that our faith in Christ should naturally lead to good works, not to earn salvation, but as a response to His love. Regarding the scapular, we do not view it as an idol or as a replacement for Jesus. It is a sign of our devotion and a reminder to live a life of faith, trust in God’s mercy, and seek His will. Wearing it is similar to how many Christians carry crosses or wear rings as symbols of their love for Christ. We honor the saints, especially the Blessed Virgin Mary, not as gods or idols, but as holy men and women who lead us closer to Jesus. When we ask for their intercession, it’s like asking a friend to pray for us, trusting that the body of Christ extends beyond just those of us on earth (Revelation 5:8, Revelation 8:3-4). To learn more about what the Catholic Church actually believes I encourage you to study the early Church. You might find the writings of St. Ignatius of Antioch, St. Irenaeus of Lyons, and the Didache surprising and eye-opening. God bless you!
on Gifts: My teacher gave a wonderful example: Imagine that you are a baby and crying for mother's attention - mommy gives baby toys at first, if the child still cries mommy finally holds the baby - the union of god. Not to be incredulous but just let it be but always look for your beloved and not be satiated with these feelings, experiences - these are like fire of love in which we should burn.
i liken distractions to that fire of god - loving fire that distracts us to make us pray for him more to be burned by his love - he cannot stop loving us - only "WE" do.
Please pray my BIL Benny, in hospital bloodwork back and he was extremely low on potassium. He will be there over night, he needs 2 units and each will take 3 hours. They did an MRI but no news back yet. Has Acute Leukemia. 💙🙏
I never knew who Anne of Jesus was until late last week and didn't know she appeared to St Therese until yesterday. Now I'm even more excited for the new Carmelcast series about St Teresa and prayer. Thank you so much. I've been waiting months for follow ups. Thanks be to God!
I subscribe to the (ICS Pub) channel, but its video posts don’t automatically turn up. I have to search for it. Thank you for letting us know about your new series on St. Teresa, Bro. John Mary!
If you're on your phone, there is a bell button to the right of their name you can click for notifications. If you're on your computer, you can click where it says "subscribed" and in the dropdown select the shaded in bell for "all" notifications :) God bless!
RU-vid notoriously fails to send notifications. I have notifications set for hundreds of channels to which I'm subscribed, but I haven't received a single notification since July 2020.
+ J.M.J. + Thanks be to God for Bl. Anne of Jesus! I hope to become a Carmelite hermit within the coming months, God willing. Please pray for me if you would be so kind. I would be eternally grateful! May God reward you!
I’m excited for what is to come, getting to know Saint Ann of Jesus, continuing with am audio book of The Way of Perfection coupled with the corresponding CarmelCasts, and starting in on my freshly delivered Story of a Soul SE on Saint Thérèse’s feast day tomorrow. I wish I knew of the Carmelites much sooner! Thank you all for that which is beyond words, Christ’s peace be with you!
Thank Fr :) the teachings from our Carmelite brothers and sisters are so rich & inspiring😇 May God be praised! I am very much looking forward to the new teaching on St Theresa 🙏🏻 God bless you 🙏🏻
I love this! Benedictines and Carmelites unite, it’s beautiful to see this author’s passion and humbleness towards these beloved doctors! (I have been discerning either Carmelite or Benedictine orders, this comes at a great time!)
Good question, Glen. St. Teresa gives different gradations of passive prayer such as the prayer of quiet, prayer of union, contemplation, etc. Contemplation seems to be totally passive prayer, but in her understanding there seem to be other types of prayer that are passive to some degree without being perfect contemplation. Hope that helps!
How I love this, but have to laugh at myself for messing up on the Glory Be each day so far, the wording in the LotH has me reaching for the wrong recitation :)
ST. JOHN PAUL II: Jesus came to bring joy: joy to children, joy to parents, joy to families and friends, joy to workers and scholars, joy to the sick and elderly, joy to all humanity. In a true sense joy is the keynote message of Christianity, and the recurring message of the Gospels. Go therefore and become messengers of joy. Every human heart is made for joy.
ST. CATHERINE OF SIENA: “O eternal beauty! O eternal goodness! O eternal mercy! O crazy lover! You have need of your creature? It seems so to me, for you act as if you could not live without her. Why are you so crazy? Because you have fallen in love with what you have made! You are pleased and delighted over her, as if you were drunk with desire for her salvation. She runs away from you and you go looking for her. She strays and you draw closer to her.”
