A question please for any riggers or skydivers....if you were to pack your main canopy as carefully as a rigger packs your reserve, wouldn't you be able to significantly reduce main canopy malfunctions?
Most cutaways can be solved by just packing carefully. However, the reserve and main are almost completely different. The main is designed for performance and the reserve for absolute reliability.
Very well said! Iv been in the military for 18.5 years and about to retire in 2024 and immediately begin collecting a pension for the rest of my life. Everyone keeps asking what im gonna do or what government job ill take with my clearance and background. People seem surprised when I say I just wanna slow down and chill a little. Im willing to take a pay cut in order to actually smile everyday. I don't wanna be a slave employee until im too old to enjoy myself. I think your on the right track and hopefully ill follow soon.
This is so interesting I pack as a rigger for the army so I expected the rig to be at least similar but from what I could see from the main and reserve it’s almost like a completely different system
Hi Johnnie, I put out a question to any riggers or skydivers (I didn't notice you said you were a rigger), that I wonder if you could help me with please? If every skydiver packed their main as carefully as riggers would appear to pack reserves, would this not significantly reduce main canopy malfunctions, or am I missing something? I'm not, as you might have guessed, a skydiver.
@@peterjames6620 A main canopy takes around 10 minutes to pack v/s 3 hours for a reserve. Moreover, the two systems are completely different in how they're deployed. Reserve can be deployed using many ways (reserve handle, RSL (can also be paired w/ a skyhook or MARD, AAD) and it uses a spring loaded pilot chute while a main canopy can be deployed with a hand held pilot chute and has a longer snivel.
@@jodiemayo307 yeah ig. I was looking at people who travel with their parachute to other countries that they have the let the airline know about them. I have never parachute before. Do you think i could just hop into a airplane pull the cord and i could make a safe landing ? License is very expensive. Around 3 k
