The Lucerne Regatta Association was founded in 1903. Since then it has been organising rowing regattas in Lucerne, which have been held on the Rotsee since 1933. As a result, the Lucerne Regatta have been writing sports and rowing history for over a hundred years. In 1962 the first ever World Rowing Championships were held here, and Lucerne also hosted the World Championships in 1974, 1982 and 2001. In 1974, the first World Championship medals were awarded in the women’s and light weight category. Lucerne has also hosted the European Championships five times and hosts the annual Swiss Championships.
