hello! welcome to @joyofstationery. I’m Jennifer, and stationery is my happy place 📝✨🎨 literature academic 📚 currently using hobonichi, traveler’s notebook, field notes, leuchtturm 💌
Hi Jennifer! Oh my, how could I have missed this video. I love all of your desk joys. I also love cats 😍 but the lil ghost is so adorable. And how perfect is that wooden keychain to commemorate such a big move! Happy planner season ☺️ Would love to see a desk tour ♥️
What a lovely walkthrough of your planning system. I took notes LOL. I love the way you created a vertical weekly out of the Hobonichi Weeks. I will try this layout for sure. And the patches are beautiful. I went to the website and I want them all. So beautiful. Thank you for sharing.
Thank You for sharing this! I love the Midori Weekly Memo planner but wished it was a little bigger and this layout looks like its right up my alley so to speak! with One week per page and 52 weeks I should be able to do a week on one page and professional and personal on the next pages. Thank you for sharing this idea of splitting up the pages as well. I am going to play around with it and see what best suites me.
Wishing you all the best in your upcoming academic year! 🥰 I love your system so much. It’s so organized and purposeful. 🥹Also! Love that you’ve added the weekly supplement back into your mix! 😍
Such an interesting system! I’m going to transition from being a student to working some time next year, potentially also in academia - so it’s helpful to see what your planning needs as an academic are!
Just wanted to comment just 2 minutes in (before I forget-don’t have my planner out right now😂 to write it down) Sterling Ink has an academic calendar for the year July 2024 through July2025. Now to enjoy your video.
Your use of your pencil boards is genius! I have so many, and I love so many of the upcoming designs, but I never use them. Now I know what to do with the ones I have. Thank you, also, for the kaigi. Your system makes so much sense!
Aw thank you so much, and I honestly love the pencil board idea too! I can't claim credit, as I feel like I heard about it somewhere recently, and ever since I've been using my pencil boards to change the look of the techo books with a clear cover. Such a game changer, especially with such gorgeous pencil board designs in the latest Hobonichi reveals! (and cost effective too!) So glad that you enjoyed
I love the way you speak, explain and adapt the different notebooks to your needs :) funnily, I am currently thinking of switching from weeks to a6 day free + memo pad next year. So this was very helpful :)
Aw thank you so much for the wonderfully kind words! I am so glad to hear that you enjoyed this and found it helpful! How exciting that you're thinking of switching from weeks to a6 day free + memo pad -- that a6 setup is what's new for me and I'm already finding it so helpful!
Hi I've been bingewatching your channel for the past few weeks and just love the way you switch up your system. It is really inspiring ❤ I am a bit late to the game, but I wanted to ask about your speckled fawns dublin cover. Is the cover you have still available on their website as I'd like to purchase one for myself. Thanks x
Aw thank you so much for watching and for the kind words! I'm so glad that you've liked the videos, as well as the way I sometimes switch up my system! It's really helped me to remember that my planning system can always be in progress and evolve with my changing needs. I've quite liked the speckled fawns Dublin, though it's been some time and I know they change up their leathers. Ooh, I've just checked, and they seem to have this up: www.speckledfawns.com/travelersnotebooks/horweendublincognac -- I'm not sure it's the exact same one, but it does look like it could be!
Thank you for this! I'm still new faculty (start of second year now) and still figuring out the best way to keep track of all the dates as a professor instead of an adjunct (when it was similar to being a student).
First of all, congratulations! And thank you so much for watching! I'm glad that this could be useful ~ there really are so many dates to keep track of! I'm still quite new to my current institution too, which is always such an adjustment. I hope that this second year goes well for you!

Genuinely how much do you want for the dorami cover xD I need it
These are all so adorable. I had no idea you lived in Scotland so the little Highland coo took me by surprise! There’s lots of real life Highland coo’s in Pollok Park if you ever want to see a real one, the little baby ones are so cute! 🏴
Oh that's so lovely that there are Highland coos in Pollok Park, we didn't know they were so close by! We haven't been to the Highlands just yet (though we plan to) and hoped we would see some then, but this is brilliant! Thank you so much!
Loved this- would also enjoy an in depth step by step of how you commonplace/make your work notes, or a journal along with you if you don’t already have one ❤
I know this is an older video but I have a hot tip for hot cocoa when lactose intolerant!! I use Lactaid milk, or lactose free milk. It IS milk so it has the same creamy taste but no lactose. Highly recommend!
Yes, the first double spread pages not only look inviting to work with but also neat and very functional. I’m not sure about including work and research notes in the same journal though. Have you designed a good indexing system so that you can find past notes as time goes on? Anyway, thank you, I’m going to try your opening spread with the fold - it is clever. X
This is a brilliant set - up - I have started experimenting in a blank Hobonichi A5 notebook - and trying this - and it is working amazingly - thank you for sharing! I am now thinking for 2025 I might get a Wonderland222 that All In One - that has 236 blank pages in the back and I could set up my "daily" entries like this! But for the remainder of the year I will set up my blank notebook for now. Again the unlimited notes pages ( not just one per day)is so freeing.. if I miss a day no gap no guilt, and no backfilling!
Thanks for such a lovely video! I’ve tried using the A5 both for personal and for work (and even tried to combine them at one point). I find that I’m not a daily journaller, so the Cousin was out of the question for my personal entries. Right now I’m using my A5 Avec for work, and it’s going great! There’s a lot of notes and I love that I can look back on specific dates and track important information. But now I am contemplating a Dayfree, just for “commonplace” (which is more like tracking key info for me haha), so I really loved this video!!
Hello Jennifer ~ I just recently discovered your channel, and I find the way that you speak about journaling and planning so valuable. I'm a huge believer that our notebooks are reflections of our minds, but that the inverse is also true--in other words, that how we structure the page is a way to mold and guide structures of thinking. It's always really special to encounter others thinking so deeply about these things. Thank you for sharing your books and thoughts 💌
Such a precious cover - fantastic ideas! I might’ve stuck with my A5 day free better! Still worth experimenting with - I recently set up continuing education notes on Sterling ink A5 Tamoe River inserts in a beautiful A5 rings in a 2 column system and adding an occasional sticker just for inviting me to use the notebook! I will try some journaling in this system as well. I love the ability to switch back and forth between personal and professional
This is so interesting. I like how you can keep your personal info/journaling thoughts unseen during a work meeting. Smart. I use the Cousin, and I feel sometimes like the Day Free could be fun to have a bullet journal type interface. May try for next year.
thank you so much! 😊❤️ I really appreciated the Cousin too, and it just ended up being a bit too much to keep up with for me ultimately. The day-free really does seem to provide that flexibility of being able to use like a bullet journal ~ would love to hear if you end up trying it out!
I had the dog cover when I thought I was going to use a hobonichi then I didn’t. So I sold it. Then I got a hobonichi that started in April and realized I loved it and am so sad I sold it now, it’s so prettyyy😢
oh noo I hope that you might be able to find it some time, perhaps in hobonichi BTS or something! I almost sold it too back when I wasn’t able to use this A5 right away, but it really is so pretty and has continued to grow on me ~ and I’ve been regretting not getting it in the A6! 🥲❤️
This is fantastic! Your layout reminds me a bit of the A5 Take a Note. I love the idea of folded pages that separate your work from personal journaling. I use a Hobonichi notebook that I’ve set up in a hybrid Take a Note/ Hobonichi cousin way. I’m a teacher and I love the idea of using the commonplace approach to notetaking and planning. Thank you!
thank you so much, and yes I was thinking about that too with the A5 take a note! 🥰 in fact the next weekly spread I’m trying is similar with having separate columns for each of the days. I haven’t yet tried the A5 TAN, though I’ve tried the A6 ~ I didn’t end up sticking with the A6, but I wonder now if the A5 could be helpful. Using the hobonichi notebook in the way you mentioned (hybrid TAN/Cousin) sounds brilliant and I’d love to hear how it’s going, especially as a fellow teacher! I find that so much of my planning is inspired by trying to figure out what would work best for teaching in a lot of instances. Thank you so watching, and I’m so glad you enjoyed! ❤️
I love this so much! Especially how the flap allows for the weekly view on the left to stay visible even when you flip to the next page on the right. Looks so pretty too ❤
aw thank you so much, and I’m so glad you like it! 🥹🥰 having the flap to keep the weekly view visible has just been so helpful ~ I find it just helps so much to be able to keep things in sight! ✨
aw thank you so much! 🥰 and again I totally agree with you that having the cousin weeklies with undated/flexible dailies like the day-free would be such a powerhouse of a book!
This looks great! I hope this works for u! I used the Weeks for years and enjoyed the format but this year, I moved into an a6 Hon because I wanted to try having a more square page to design my spreads. I love the size but I miss my weekly overviews (and no, Hobonichi, the weekly supplement doesn't solve my problem! I know u are just trying to force me to get a Cousin - I see u) Like you, I need a spread to lay out events and all my to-dos for the week. I was unsure whether the Day Free would have enough pages for the year because I like everything in one book.
aw thank you so much! 🥰 I hear you on loving the Weeks for that weekly overview, but also enjoying a more square page for actual spreads (and the weekly supplement didn’t quite work for me either 😂 and cousin was a bit too much in the long run). It’s a good point about whether the day-free would have enough pages ~ I definitely see that I’d need several of them for the year if I were to continue this, and having it all in one book would be so helpful for archiving!
