If they really thought the matter through, they already knew where Captain Picard and Soren and the missile were. A couple of minutes before in Stellar Cartography, Data and Picard reasoned that Soren was steering the Ribbon to the surface by destroying the Veridian Star, which brought the ribbon down to the surface so Soren could stand on his Home Depot steel platform and wave his arms and be swept up by the ribbon. If Picard was sent to Soren, he'd be there too. Data knew these facts and could have done the math in about three milliseconds, they could have put the Enterprise over that point, detected the missile and maybe zorched it even before it took off. Would'a ruined the movie though: Captain Picard and Captain Kirk wouldn't get to make eggs and toast and ride those horses together! (-which was a great sequence!)
The whole bridge crew are watching and remembering that one time Data went crazy and seized control of the ship, and the other time when his psychopathic identical twin brother impersonated him, and the time he betrayed Starfleet to join Lore, and the time he stabbed Troi with a knife, and ...
The tragic part we didn't know at the time of our first viewing is that this will be the last time we'll see the bridge unspoiled before the Big Girl's shit starts getting wrecked.
Riker's "What the hell is going on?" look at 0:33 makes it even funnier. Plus, if you look closely, then you can see Worf just looking incredibly annoyed. :)
I hadn't thought about this in a long time but I've taken up bird watching and trying to put together a bird sanctuary, and when I watch them this little song comes back to me.
I love that datas fingers can move fast enough so that he can play the bit at the end while also completing his lifeform scan in the correct sequence. Androids really are the best of us.
Never liked the lighting in this movie. The bridge looked too dark. I liked the tv series lighting where it kinda looked a bit sterile and futuristic. This looks crowded and unnecessarily dark.
